  1. I think the article is about right. I don't think Garcia, Santana or Dozier is traded but I do think Kintzler and either Grossman or Rosario will be.
  2. Another trailer for the It movie came out today http://www.avclub.com/article/pennywise-speaks-new-trailer-stephen-kings-it-258673
  3. I'll believe it when it happens.
  4. Boy Scouts apologized for Trump's speech. http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/27/politics/boy-scouts-trump-apology/index.html
  5. I really only care about baseball anymore. A lot of the stuff about pro sports bugs me - tax funded stadiums, players as role models, labor/management issues, racial issues.
  6. Thanks, didn't feel like going to find the quotes again.
  7. Just looked at Rays top 30 - De Leon is #6 and old friend Hu is #20.
  8. I assume Molitor is done after the year. The new FO should be able to hire the guy they want to manage their team and not take a manager based on directives from ownership.
  9. In this very thread people have said he's cooked and he's a fringe fifth starter.
  10. mlbpipeline had him as Arizona's #25 prospect - "Signed back in March 2012, Moya has pitched almost exclusively as a reliever, save for one summer in Rookie ball in 2014. While he moved slowly to start his career, with two summers each in the Dominican Summer and Pioneer Leagues, he's picked up steam since, going from Class A to Double-A and dominating over the past two seasons. Typically relievers don't have four quality pitches to use, but Moya does, allowing him to be effective against both righties and lefties and to pitch multiple innings. While his fastball grades out as average, it can play up because of deception and his ability to command it. His changeup is his best secondary pitch, but he can also use his slider as a weapon and will mix in a curveball as well. Moya has been an effective closer in the Minors, especially in Double-A during the 2017 season. His stuff might be a bit short to handle that role in the big leagues, but he's looking more and more like a future lefty setup man."
  11. Blankenhorn has dropped a bit in our prospect ranking by mlbpipeline from #7 to # 11. Their is some good and bad in Blankenhorn's season. He's hitting .233/.337/.402 which is worse than what we all wanted. He leads the league with 9 triples(!) and his iso power and on-base are solid enough. But he's also struck out 100x already (9th in the league). He's only 20 so it's not like he's behind the prospect curve but it looks like it'll be a full season in low A and next year a full season high A. He's not on a fast track.
  12. I suppose I should update this. Cabbage started the year in Elizabethton but was promoted to Cedar Rapids. In 13 games so far, he's struggled a bit - .209/.306/.349 - but that's a pretty small sample size. Still, he's 20 and dropped off of mlbpipeline's top 30 Twins. He's mostly been playing LF. At the end of the day, he's struggling and I'm not sure how much rope the Twins will give him. I suspect they'll let him have another year, regardless of what happens, but it would be nice to see him put together some strong games.
  13. In fairness, Chass' reporting on baseball's labor issues really were some of the most important reporting in baseball history. I get that he's seen as a grouchy angry 'get off my lawn' now kind of guy but the players don't get the victories they got without Chass' dogged reporting. I believe (I may be wrong) that he helped break the owners collusion story in the 80s as well. If he had died in 1995, his legacy would look a lot different than it does now.
  14. Steve Adams on Santana and Garcia - https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/trade-rumors-twins-ervin-santana-jaime-garcia.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 "MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweets that the Twins are at least open to the idea of moving Ervin Santana and Jaime Garcia if their recent struggles don’t turn around before the non-waiver deadline. Minnesota dropped below .500 for the first time since April after a pair of losses to the Dodgers, and the Royals are surging toward the top of the division as well. Santana has struggled over the past month and a half but would still figure to draw interest as a fairly reasonably priced rotation stabilizer, even if his ERA has never been supported by peripheral metrics. And while some may raise an eyebrow at the notion of moving Garcia, I’d point out that since the Twins took on all of the money owed to Garcia, they could offer to flip him, still pay his contract, and potentially receive a better prospect than the Huascar Ynoa, whom they traded to Atlanta to get Garcia in the first place."
  15. If you think he's a fringe fifth starter, he has no trade value.
  16. I was the one who brought up Sheffield. On mlbpipelines's updated list, he's #93. Gonsalves (75) and Romero (83) are both ahead of him but probably should be considered in the same tier - solid AA starters with questions about how they'll fit at the ML level.
  17. No, he made those lists after he hit AA as a 21 year old. That was years after he left Elizabethton. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=polanc001jor
  18. Meh. He made both BA and mlb's top 100 lists after he left Elizabethton. I think Klaw had him ranked for numerous years.
  19. I think you're more or less right. Listen to what's out there but Santana and Dozier don't have to be moved unless we like the return. If we want to move Santana because we think he's a pumpkin then the return is going to be pretty bad. I'd bring Romero up to the pen soon. Garver to the majors as well. Probably Curtiss and any other bullpen arm I think can help going forward to see what we have. Gonsalves should finish the year at AAA.
  20. Wade isn't a CFer. He's mostly played LF. I like his obp (Granite's too) but both of them profile as a 4th OFer. I'm ok moving Rosario for pitching if we get a strong offer and letting Wade or Granite man LF but neither of them are the prospects that Rosario, Buxton and Kepler were.
  21. Oh, sure, this is a flawed club but most teams are flawed. Look at Cleveland. Pitching is solid but they're probably going to lose Brantley, Jackson and Santana. Encarnacion will be 35 and making nearly 19m, they already have 77m in payroll for next year not counting arbitration raises. Cody Allen, Bauer, Salazar and Kipnis are going to be expensive arb guys. Outside of LA, there really aren't perfect teams. The Twins just need to get enough stable starting pitching to let the offense take over.
  22. Because that's generally how teams improve. Below .500, get to .500, get to playoffs. Sano is a stud. Buxton and Kepler will be studs. Berrios will be a stud. These aren't finished players. They have a really nice offensive nucleus. They need to improve the starting pitching somehow but there are reasons for optimism with this group.
