    Today was Gimenez, not Castro. And both infield flubs today trace back to the manager not having his team prepared to play a major league game. That's part of his job description.

    They need that starter for next year, too. Why not get one now? Run differential means zero going forward, btw. They don't reset the W/l record at the AS break to "what it should have been."

    He didn't just start pitching in 2017. Look at the previous four years. It's doubtful, but there's a non zero chance he helps the Twins. A much higher chance than "those guys" IMO. There's a reason he was given a $12m contract for this season.

    Seriously? He's had an ERA under 4, and a WHIP under 1.3, every year since 2011, except the first half of 2017. So yeah, to echo Mike, they think there's a realistic chance he could help the Twins on the field. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, but he's not around to mentor anybody.

    I doubt Colon was signed as any kind of "mentor." He was signed because the Twins are desperate for starting pitching, and he was available cheap.

    Pretty much everyone should be on the table, in the right deal. Including Gordon. If you aren't willing to spend actual prospects, you are going to have a hard time acquiring talent. And the Twins desperately need pitching talent.

    A couple things, Spin: I don't understand why "every season" doesn't include this season. Or the next four, for that matter. For your goal to be realistic, in addition to quality people throughout, I think you need to add an ownership that commits to it, which means they're going to have to value winning over profit.

    Seems easy enough. When someone is less shabby than required, up through the perfect amount of shabby...well that, by definition is "not too shabby." On the other hand, excess shabby would be, of course, too shabby.

    Nit pic: when the Twins finished their four run inning, they were down only one...5-4. Not 6-4.

    Brutal game from Escobar yesterday. Both runs in the 6th were on him, not Mejia, and of course an 0-5 at the plate, K'd with the bases loaded against O-Day with 2 or 3 cookies to hit in the AB.

    I'd wager he holds up nobody. He's not going to be in Rochester long, 2 or 3 starts max. After that, he's either in Minneapolis or released.

    It's weird...many of the same posters who daily lament the state of the bullpen are the same ones who argue against the Twins taking actual steps to improve it. "Don't trade...wait for magical internal improvement" isn't a very good plan.

    Calhoun's intention was to stop short of second. That was by design.

    A double steal like that is basically the Angels intentionally running themselves out of the inning, but betting the Twins will be surprised and/or incapable of executing the defense. Two runners are in no man's land while the defense possesses the ball. It should be an out every time, with no run scored, provided the defense reacts properly. That it worked is disturbing, mostly because it sure looks like the Twins were caught by surprise. IMO, while one can point fingers in several directions for blame, the primary thing I take from it is another data point that says Molitor is a really poor game manager. We should be thanking Scosia for the free out, instead of lamenting a cheap and important run allowed.

    Not being used when the game is on the line means the manager has fewer options when the game is on the line. It means the pitcher isn't good enough for MLB. It means he should be replaced with someone who IS good enough to pitch with the game on the line.
