  1. ...the Twins will finish at the bottom of the ALC.
  2. Nonconcur. Non. Concur. Nonconcurnonconcurnonconcurnomconcur. Strongly. Sheesh.
  3. Fantastic add to TD. Well done!
  4. Point of order: a walk ISN'T as good as a hit. A single is worth approximately 1.3 times as much as a walk by modern analytics. And of course doubles, triples and HRs are also hits and worth way more than a walk. Walks are great, and OBP is important, but viewing it in a vacuum misses important information. OBP primarily built on batting average is "worth" more than OBP built on walks. Hitting also translates better against good pitching (the kind you're likely to meet in the postseason) than walking. Good pitching limits walks, almost by definition. As for Gallo.... He'll play, there's no need for me to "give him a chance." But...yuck.
  5. I don't think cash or "ability to sign" had much to do with this trade. Lopez comes with 2 years of team control. Arraez has 3.
  6. I think it's just the opposite. I think this board overvalues prospects. In many cases wildly overvalues prospects.
  7. Couldn't it just as well be said: "(Miami) are doing what you always want to do in trades, selling high on their player" There's as much reason to believe Lopez is at peak value as Arraez. Probably more.
  8. My objections to this article: 1. I certainly agree baserunning has been bad recently for our Twins. Incredibly awful last year. And the lack of stolen bases is just a part of it. Runners lost, bases not gained, often zero situational awareness. Where I think the article breaks down is, what's the plan to improve? Hope isn't a strategy. I'd start with the manager. You get the fundamentals you allow. Baldelli needs to realize he's the primary source of both the problem and solution...add some old-school to his skill set. Make fundamentals a priority rather than an afterthought. Demand players play the game correctly or find ones who will. 2. Agree infield defense is likely an issue. Not sure what to do about it. 3. "Hope for better luck" isn't a strategy. The single best way to get better "luck" late in games would be to assemble a "luckier" bullpen. And by "luckier" I mean more talented. "Lucky" like Duran.
  9. According to reports, the Twins offered 10/$285 and backed away from that. Does this mean the Twins DID NOT offer 10/$285?
  10. My intriguing idea: take that cash, make a huge pile, douse it with gasoline, light it, and watch it burn. Neither Nick's idea or mine will help the Twins win, but mine would actually be intriguing.
  11. Celestino looks like a career replacement player to me. Modest defense, not enough bat. He'll never hold down a starting big league job, but he'll hang around with a job in AAA for a half decade and get occasional 5th OFer service time.
  12. Then don't. Problem solved.
  13. Garlick's career OPS+ is 98. 130 against LHP, but less than 200 total PAs. I say the chances he's a 130 OPS+ hitter against lefties going forward is slimmer than my chances of dating a super model. As to the OP, Pollock makes sense. He can cover CF in Buxton's absence too. Personally, I'd be shocked if Gallo plays any CF, I doubt Kepler is still here, and Celestino is a waste of space.
  14. I don't know where to place either on the continuum.
  15. Avian flu > Wacha > Archer > Bundy
  16. Guessing he'd have trouble with the physical. I mean, he's pushing 40.
  17. 1. Correa, 2. Donaldson, 3. Ervin Santana ...who am I missing?
  18. Two points: 1. further proof the Rogers trade was a poor decision. Really poor. Really, really, really poor. 2. Christian Vasquez's 3/$30 is the THIRD LARGEST FA CONTRACT IN FRANCHISE HISTORY. Holy cow.
  19. Whether or not the Twins are one player away isn't the point. At least for me.
