    Explain to me the difference in "managing by analytics" and "managing by computer." If you agree Rocco is just doing what the computer, via the front office, says to do, you can't then turn around and deny he's "managing by computer." You can LIKE that. You can agree with it. Fine. Claim another manager won't make a difference, fair. But you can't then also claim others are wrong about what it is the manager is doing. Either he's just implementing FO analytics, or he isn't. And not liking that operating methodology has just as much validity as liking it.

    Undoubtedly. But have all the innings limits and pitch counts and load management and training regimens and babying of arms done ANYthing to improve that ratio? I'd argue things today are worse, not better. Train pitchers to pitch. A lot. If they can't, it's no loss, since they get hurt anyway. If they can, then we get 250 innings instead of 160.

    Actually, the original article literally lists losing Royce Lewis as "most devastating." They're listed in most to least devastating in descending order, with Nick naming Lewis first on the list (or tied with Kirilloff, depending on how you read those paragraphs.)

    So on the one hand, we crow about the new analytical approach of the front office and manager, claim a new manager won't matter since he's just implementing the "analytics" sent down from above, AND On the other hand, we look down our nose at any fans who claim Rocco is just managing by analytics. Heh.

    You forgot a few. Bert Blyleven was so abused, coming up at age 19 and tossing over 1900 innings in his first six and a half seasons, that he only lasted until age 39. How many more before you stop doing this?

    I'm not sure which I like better: Rocco not sending Ryan out for the 8th, or getting himself into a situation where he has Duran warming in a game his team had a no hitter and 6-0 lead thru 7. Also no game Twins game would be complete without incomprehensible baserunning. Hard for me to even take any joy out of this win. Baseball needs to have some soul, not computer printouts.

    I think by the time he was let go you would find less than half of Twins fans wanted him retained. And in any case, the above is a long way from "greatest GM in the history of sports."

    Some very well written responses above, to a very questionable premise. (Shout out to Mark G and Yawn G, and slow handclap to Kirbydome, for completely gutting this article.) I'll just add a couple things: - you can't separate all injuries from the front office/manager. Nick's article lists Kiriloff as both an unforeseeable tragedy and "a problem thats been plaguing him for years, sapping him of his most important skill." Huh? It wasn't possible to plan for something known for years? We can't consider whether the stupid "100 game plan" for Buxton was a proper response to his knee injury in April? Of course you have to include "how'd we get there" to any article about injuries. - I'd argue if Royce Lewis is listed 1st, as your most impactful injury, you're in pretty good shape. Lewis was a bust coming into the season and not expected to have much if any impact.

    I really really hope the Twins, from top down, critically examine their entire medical protocol. It's ridiculous, the amount of injury and time missed despite fewer and fewer demands on players. Playing every day used to be the expectation, and if a players level of play warranted it, pretty much standard practice. Whatever they're doing, it ain't working. I'd suggest trying what used to work. Starting in the minors, you play every day, unless you're on the IL. Starting pitchers take every rotation turn with the expectation of going at least 7. More if things are going well. Analytics aren't worth **** if you're not willing to admit they show a need for change.

    I think it's fair to question letting Bundy give up 12 hits and 7 runs in 4 and a third in the opener of the most important series of the season. They have a 14 man staff, ferpetesakes. What is he saving for? Next year? And let's stop referring to other posters as "Rocco haters."

    Pitch clock: yeah Shift ban: boo Bigger bases: yawn. The article above didn't list the actual limits on pickoffs, here they are: -two ("disengagements," which include step offs as well as pickoffs) per plate appearance. -A third "disengagement" in a given PA results in one base for the runner "if not successful." In other words, you can do a 3rd pickoff, but you have to pick the guy off. -Resets with each new PA and/or base gained by the runner. Seems pretty significant to me. I would assume there might be more SB attempts.

    Did he have years of minor league play as well, from which to form an opinion? Demonstrated 300 pt OPS differential in those 350 MLB PAs? Managers and coaches watching his PAs against L and R hand pitching?

    Gonna leave it at, disagree strongly that anyone is starving Kyle Garlick. And disagree it makes sense to feed ABs to him just in case things go to hell in a handbasket and you're later left with no better options. He's carved out a small niche as a lefty masher. That's it. No reason to intentionally expand on that at the expense of LH hitters.

    GIven the current options, there isn't a lot Rocco can do, but Garlick should rarely if ever face a RH pitcher.

    Simply awful. Find ways to lose, rather than ways to win. 4 errors. Celestino thrown out at home by 30 feet with none out in the 10th. Jax finds a way to throw a dinger to Glayber frigging Torres to cough up a 2 run lead. Based loaded one out in the 12th, Correa pops up on the 1st pitch, not even a strike. Megill has a another, what?...2 hits given up on 0-2 pitches? More rolling curves. Twins have not 1 but TWO Yankees caught off base in the 12th and Correa gets neither. For some reason Hamilton is in left field by the 6th inning. What? That results in a three pitch K for pinch hitter Kepler, who can't play the field, leaving Gordon in left and Palacios hitting 6th. It's tough being a Twins fan some days.

    1. The Pitching Pipeline(tm) is, predictably IMO, the biggest disappointment. And unfortunately, I don't think ANYone will be touting it this offseason. 2. Buxton. A couple scintillating weeks to start the season, then the "100 game plan" which featured thoroughly unremarkable results, and then the seemingly inevitable trip to the IL, from which we may or may not see a return. 3. Falvine. Whether through poor decision making (Rogers trade) or poor luck, we're left with Nick Gordon hitting 4th or 5th, no starter seemingly capable of a 6 inning start, and question marks at more positions than not. 4. Everything else.
