    This article is just poorly thought out. It is in actuality an argument for Vazquez getting ABs over other 1st base options. Because that's the net effect. And frankly I'd rather have Solano or Gallo in the lineup over Vazquez.

    Yup, and It's been that way for weeks. One good slider, then two bad ones...either missing badly outside the zone, or missing badly IN the zone. Not commanding his fastball either, but the major issue is the slider.

    14 catchers had 100 or more games last year. 120-ish games at catcher used to be the standard, and there's no reason it couldn't be today.

    I hope none of the people bemoaning the bullpen are the same people who were glad the FO sat on their hands while bullpen help was available. Don't blame Rocco for his options.

    A couple thoughts: Some pretty snazzy Twins defense tonight. There were some bad ABs tonight, but in the 6th both Kepler and Walner battled their tails off, and both paid off great ABs with key hits. It appears maybe Jax is working himself out of Rocco's Circle Of Trust.

    Boy, I strongly doubt Brooks Lee plays MLB baseball this year. I even more strongly doubt if he does, it'd be at 1st base.

    My point is, move away from the idea of a "#5 starter." That's not a useful way to imagine a rotation. Much like "he's just fine batting at the bottom of the order" is a poor rationalization for a poor hitter, "he's an OK #5" is a poor rationalization for a below average starter. Aim higher. Aim higher than Randy Dobnak.

    How did the Twins survive a poor offense so far this season? By not having a "4" or "5" in their rotation, that's how. And lots of teams throughout history haven't sullied their rotation by planning for below average guys, or worse. You settle for a guy like Dobnak getting a few starts somewhere along the way due to circumstances. You don't hand him a rotation spot and expect to be a legit contender. Again, the goal isn't to have a 1 through 5. You're the one describing Dobnak as a 5. Why would you be ok with that? That's no different than wanting Gallo next year because "it's not realistic" to expect better.

    First off, I don't accept the premise that there is such a thing as a "number 5 starter." Each starter is as important as the other 4. The games they start count the same. The goal isn't to have 1 guy way above average, 1 guy a little above average, one guy average, one guy a little below average, and one way below average (a "1", a "2", a "3" a "4", and a "5".) The goal is to have 5 guys all way above average. Come as close to that as you can. Planning for a "5" in your rotation is stupid. It's like planning for 2 guys that can't hit, because you have 2 guys who can. And, in the specific case of Randy Dobnak, he's awful.

    If Randy Dobnak comes anywhere near the Twins rotation, either many things have gone wrong or Falvine have given up.

    Maybe I missed it. At what point during Gray's 8 pitch, 1-2-3 6th inning did Jeffers come out to talk?

    I think Ryan went on 15 day IL on 3 Aug. Can't come back until at least the 18th. They can get there without using Kuechel given 2 off days this week. Lopez' regular turn would be the off day Thursday.

    I'm a "better to remove a starter too early than too late" guy, but even I can't imagine why Gray didn't come out for the 7th. 8 pitches in the 6th. Hadn't had a stressful inning since the 2nd. That said, fantastic job Mr Gray, and well done Twins getting 2 of 3.

    Right or wrong, I'd Wager there's no decision on Gallo unless/until Kirilloff returns to the active roster. Then I don't know what the Twins will do. But they clearly believe they need him at first base.

    Pretty sure the poster you quoted meant season totals. So far this year, Gallo has 20 HRs and 17 singles.

    My house has a leaky roof, an undependable heating system, there are cracks developing in the foundation, and my wiring keeps shorting out whenever it gets wet. A wet, cold and windy winter is just around the corner. But I don't have enough money to fix all four problems. What to do, what to do? The heck with it...I'll just ignore ALL the problems. I mean, I can't fix them all, why fix any?

    Bingo. Julien's primary problem defensively is bad hands. Bad hands are a problem anywhere, but are particularly damaging at 1st base, where you're handling balls hit to every infielder, not just the ones hit to you. BTW, I like Julien's bat, and it's probably irrelevant for 2023, but he hasn't proven anything yet offensively long term.

    Just a little reminder that some "advanced stats" aren't necessarily actually advanced: Joey Gallo's blast to right, 400 plus feet on a line into the second deck in right, had an expected batting average of .750. Somehow, whoever came up with that measurement thinks that's an out one fourth of the time. I nonconcur with that estimation, good sir. In fact, I strongly nonconcur.
