  1. I'm pretty not impressed with Ober lately.
  2. The thing about growing old is, the insults and indignities just never stop. I called the incontenance hotline the other day, and the lady asked me if I could hold. Ha ha, lady. Everyone's a comedian!
  3. I have every confidence in you. I bet you are able to do it at 40.
  4. One good thing about my age is I've had to learn to multitask. I now can sneeze and pee at the same time.
  5. Your age? Last time I saw my doctor I asked for some advice and he told me "Don't buy any green bananas."
  6. Old Friend Spencer Steer put Cleveland up 2-0 on Cincy. He froze on a line drive to left that sailed over his head for a double, led to 2 runs.
  7. Bingo. And there's your five. Votto, Freeman, Andrus, Cruz, and McCutchon.
  8. OK, but at my age don't take all day.
  9. Boy, I strongly doubt Brooks Lee plays MLB baseball this year. I even more strongly doubt if he does, it'd be at 1st base.
  10. One name remains 1.(Miguel Cabrera) 2. Joey Votto 2124 3. Freddie Freeman 2061 4. 5. Nelson Cruz 2053 6. Andrew McCutchen 2033 The missing name is tough. I'd never have gotten it without cheating
  11. Nelson Cruz #4 on our list (5th among active players).
  12. Joey Votto is #1 (2nd among active players), Freddie Freeman #2 (3rd active player) on our list I'm not sure exactly where he is, but I think Altuve is closing in on 2000 hits. Not on our 2-6 list though.
  13. Miguel Cabrera's last 2 games at TF, barring a miracle finish to 2023. Miggy leads all active MLB players with 3145 hits. Today's quiz: who are the next 5 on the list? (Hint: Miggy is a little over 1000 hits ahead of 2nd place, but only a little more than 1100 hits ahead of 5th place.)
  14. My point is, move away from the idea of a "#5 starter." That's not a useful way to imagine a rotation. Much like "he's just fine batting at the bottom of the order" is a poor rationalization for a poor hitter, "he's an OK #5" is a poor rationalization for a below average starter. Aim higher. Aim higher than Randy Dobnak.
  15. How did the Twins survive a poor offense so far this season? By not having a "4" or "5" in their rotation, that's how. And lots of teams throughout history haven't sullied their rotation by planning for below average guys, or worse. You settle for a guy like Dobnak getting a few starts somewhere along the way due to circumstances. You don't hand him a rotation spot and expect to be a legit contender. Again, the goal isn't to have a 1 through 5. You're the one describing Dobnak as a 5. Why would you be ok with that? That's no different than wanting Gallo next year because "it's not realistic" to expect better.
  16. First off, I don't accept the premise that there is such a thing as a "number 5 starter." Each starter is as important as the other 4. The games they start count the same. The goal isn't to have 1 guy way above average, 1 guy a little above average, one guy average, one guy a little below average, and one way below average (a "1", a "2", a "3" a "4", and a "5".) The goal is to have 5 guys all way above average. Come as close to that as you can. Planning for a "5" in your rotation is stupid. It's like planning for 2 guys that can't hit, because you have 2 guys who can. And, in the specific case of Randy Dobnak, he's awful.
