    I wonder if the Twins might swap Mathews and Lopez, starting Mathews on regular rest Thursday and pushing Lopez back to Friday. They'd have Lopez, Ober and SWR lined up for KC.

    Rogers appeared in a game Saturday for the Giants. It appears he cleared waivers and will remain a Giant, as was always almost a guarantee. Nobody was picking up $12m in 2025.

    If you like the long term approach, and patience, you must love the Dodgers. In the 10 most recent full seasons (not counting 2020) they've won 988 games, an average of 98.8 per season. The fewest wins in a season is 91. Five times over 100, including 111. Won the NLW every year but one (when they made the playoffs.) Two trips to the WS, another 3 to the NLCS. The long term approach seems to be part of their plan. I left out 2020, because I don't think it should count in any analysis, but if you want to include it, add a .717 season winning percentage and a WS win.

    Are we sure September callups are subject to the 10 day rule? I can't seem to find an answer.

    It seems to me the current situation, less than 30 games left, is considerably more urgent than any day in May.

    "Volatile" and "bad" are also sometimes substitutes for looking at small sample size error.

    If someone gets hurt, the 10 day minor league rule is waived, and they can recall whoever they optioned. I don't even know if Lee will help, but seems like they have to try. In any case, the obvious move isn't Julien. It's to finally look themselves in the eye and DFA Farmer.

    Of his presence makes everything work better, why wait two games until Sunday?

    The Twins don't really have pitchers hold runners beyond a token toss once in a while, they don't have pitchers use slide steps, catchers set up to receive pitches, not to throw out runners, and I'm pretty sure they haven't pitched out even once in Rocco's tenure. They have decided, for better or worse, that concentrating on the hitter and ignoring runners is beneficial. If the concern is controlling the running game, it doesn't matter which catcher is in the game. Neither will. By design.

    Good to great bullpen arms are no more unreliable than good to great starters.

    What he proved last night is there's no such thing as a "medium leverage" or "low leverage" reliever. They're all high leverage. Thielbar was brought into a 1-1 game in the 7th inning last night. Nothing low or medium leverage about that. Every reliever on your team is going to be asked to pitch meaningful, important innings, with the game close, many times. More often than not. MLB games are usually close. You're getting 3 to 5 innings most every night. Do the math.

    There is no path to defeat for Rocco Baldelli, eh? Give it a rest. I will call it as I see it. Rocco is not a good MLB manager. That's not a new position for me. Festa out for the 7th wasn't Rocco’s most egregious decision. Not by a long shot. But it's certainly up for debate. For the record, Festa hasn't broken 90 pitches all season. That's not the defense you think it is. Last night when he went out for the 7th, he was already at a season high number of pitches. And 1+ innings past his longest outing. With 2 hard hit outs to finish the 6th. I'm the guy saying they should be training these guys in the minors for higher workloads. But since they dont, don't try doing it in the middle of a MLB season. I realize the pen is not dependable, but that can't drive rotation decisions.

    No, they weren't. The Twins winning percentage prior to Correa's injury peaked July 8th at 52-39. .571 winning percentage. 92.5 win pace.

    First: the Twins aren't taking on even the $2m left this year, much less $12m next year. That's crazy talk. I doubt any team claims Rogers. If he clears waivers, and San Francisco is picking up the tab he'll have multiple suitors. 2. It astounds me relievers are still referred to as "low leverage," "medium leverage," or the like. It's lazy and inaccurate.

    Festa looked really good I thought. Wallner continues to look like the best Twins hitter, against Sale no less.

    Second and third, no out, 3-5 hitters due up. Zero runs. 1st three hitters of an inning get base hits...resulting in no runs, 1 out, 2 on. Thanks, Tommy, yet again. Festa hasn't been asked to throw a pitch in even the 6th inning ALL YEAR, yet Rocco sends him out for the SEVENTH immediately after tieing the game. Leadoff walk, Thielbar implosion, Margot does a Delmon-zee impression for 2 insurance runs. Dregs of Atlanta's pen cuts through Twins like Sherman through Georgia to the sea. What'd I miss?
