  1. I was distracted and didn't watch every at-bat (and had to watch the Seattle broadcast because of blackout rules), but every hit I saw was a ground ball to short for which Adrianza lunged and missed. From what I saw it seemed like if Lindor had been playing SS behind him, he might have had a quite respectable result.
  2. Adrianza *almost makes* every play tonight. Are the Mariners just lucky and placing the ball perfectly, or is his range compromised?
  3. But Mejia has a BIG shovel and just keeps digging.
  4. The most amazing celebration I can remember for someone who was not #1 overall. He and his family recognized what a wonderful opportunity he had received, and his attitude since then has been 100% positive.
  5. Wow, McKay looks like he's about to cry after getting picked 4th. Contrast with Berrios a few years ago...
  6. How about "Biggie"? Kind of like "Miggie" when your allergies are really, really bad.
  7. I agree 100%. There is nothing better than Twins games starting at 5:00 PT (or 4:00 from the East) and finishing before my (early) bedtime. I get into routines and find it hard to break them. A couple of years ago I lived in Europe during much of the English football season. I was so used to watching my favorite team at 7am Pacific time that it was really difficult to watch in the afternoon, which is the "normal" time.
  8. I have a bit more confidence in the front office after the Dozier saga last winter. That, too, was an obvious trade-the-veteran-for-kids situation for a building club, but they resisted when they didn't get a return that they thought was good. (Of course, none of us can really know for sure what offers were turned down.) Based on that sample of one, I doubt that the Twins will trade Santana without getting a satisfactory package in exchange.
  9. I love the presence of a Twins' game write-up! That's the one thing that has been missing from TD and I hope it becomes a regular feature. When I can't watch a game I sometimes feel better informed about the minor league games than the majors, but a nice write-up of the Twins's game fills that void nicely!
  10. After giving up eating meat 18 years ago, one of the few things that I genuinely missed was good sausage. After trying out hundreds of abominations pretending to be sausages or hot dogs, I finally found the veggie sausage of my dreams and they are made in ... Seattle. Seriously, if you even have a need/want for a really tasty veggie sausage or hot dog, try Field Roast. Whole Foods carries them (and a lot of other places in Portland, at least). Field Roast franks on a good roll with actual French mustard (Fallot is my favorite) and my wife's green tomato relish. Yum!
  11. Negative WAR for how many millions? And some Twins fans complain about Mauer.
  12. I'm married to a flutist. A flautist (unless French) is a flutist who thinks she is better than she is...
  13. I'm as much of a "numbers guy" as anyone (though not as sophisticated about baseball analytics), but it's pleasing how effectively the Twins have bounced back this weekend from a hideous series against Houston. It would have been easy, given the unexpected nature of their success in the early season, for them to get down and go into an extended slump. But they didn't. Some disparage talk about "veteran leadership" and "clubhouse influence," but I have been pleasantly surprised by this weekend's rebound and hope that it means something positive about the collective "character" of the men in the dugout (including the manager and coaches). If they can avoid long losing streaks they might have a decent chance of contending late into the season.
  14. I hope it continues. Right now he has his highest BA, OBP, and SP since 2013. Also interesting that his GO/AO is the lowest of his entire career ... by a lot. That means fewer DPs and maybe more line-drive hits.
  15. I think driving through should count. But what about landing and changing planes? Here's a remarkable coincidence from last night's game. From the Los Angeles Times: "The Twins acquired and discarded Mejia and Meyer four days apart last year, around the non-waiver trade deadline. Remarkably, both men pitched precisely six innings, threw 84 pitches and 51 strikes, and exited after facing one batter in the seventh. Both yielded five hits and one run. Both walked two. Mejia struck out five and Meyer four."
  16. Mr. Eagle-Eye with the RBI!
  17. But good to see Buxton in after the incident yesterday. I hope he can throw.
  18. After two days of bullpen agony, I'm resorting to sarcasm. Apply it to your choice of several relievers. Ode to the Twins' Bullpen Take him out of the ball game. Pull that pitcher right now. Pay him in peanuts and Cracker Jack, That way maybe he’ll never come back. We must root, root, root for our starter, If he comes out it’s a shame. Then it’s one … two … three runs per out As we lose the game.
  19. Anybody else miss the hokey old Twins' song? "We're gonna win, Twins. We're gonna score. We're gonna win, Twins. Watch that baseball soar!" Or, as my Mom used to say when I'd come home scraped up from the sandlot: "Wash that baseball sore!"
  20. Probably a good thing baseball players wear hats ...
  21. Sioux Falls always makes me think of soufflés. Is there a good French restaurant there? If not, someone should open one. If it were located at the foot of the falls it could be called "Sous Falls."
  22. So ... in the last week the Twins have had "Squirrel on the Field Day" and "Bark in the Park Night." It would have been fun if they had been the same game.
  23. The photo in the header reminds me of one of my favorite bronze street sculptures, but how do i post a picture???
  24. Yippee! I just finished the last of my final-exam grading! Summer beckons!
