Article: Early Offseason Rumors
nater79a replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with this completely. Plouffe is one of your best trading chips. If Sano proves to be ready, use Plouffe as an asset and aquire a player in another area where you are deficient. Don't just try to shoehorn him into LF. Escobar at 3B is always a short-term option till Sano is ready. -

With Mason Melotakis on the shelf for the next year or so, who are some of the lefty relievers in the system that we should be keeping an eye on? Seems like we have a good stable of righties like Burdi, Jones, Reed and maybe even Pryor. -
Yeah, I noticed that after I did some digging. There's pitchers with a 12.00+ ERA on the teams and position players hitting .150. Really just a Futures Game, part 2.

Think Rosario and Reed are the best bets to be picked for the Fall Stars game on Saturday?

With the buyout of Jared Burton, does this open up a spot for a power arm like Nick Burdi to make the Twins out of spring training? Or do you think he spends a little more time at Chatanooga or Rochester?- 12 replies

Kyle, you pitched in the Arizona Fall League in 2012 and did pretty well. What was that experience like? Do you feel like it helped you prepare for the jump to the big club in 2013? Who were some of the current major leaguer hitters that you faced?- 12 replies

Need to give Kyle a little grief. This season you had the highest ERA differential between wins and losses since Sammy Ellis of the Reds in 1965. 11.07 difference...1.07 in your wins, 12.14 in your losses. What do you attribute this to? As simple as you had your really good stuff in certain starts and just couldn't get it going in others? Certain pitches fail you in those losses?- 12 replies

Glendale Desert Dogs. Best team name in the AFL. Sunrise Saguaros sounds like a Mexican margarita bar I would be happy to frequent.- 41 replies

Article: Buxton and Sano: Maybe the Time is Now
nater79a replied to Steven Buhr's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've been advocating that the Twins bring in a player like Bourjos to help with the BABIP issues that the pitchers are having. But yes, he wouldn't hit like Buxton. No question. The good part is that Bourjos would be a tradeable asset once Buxton arrives at mid-season.- 97 replies

Agree completely. All of September I saw him going to the opposite field more than the first five months combined. Hit lefties much better. Bruno needs to get some props for his improvement, I believe. -

I think you may be pushing Cederoth by a year or two. Was only at Elizabethton last year. Buxton & Berrios probably mid-late 2015 at earliest. Like the ideas though.- 61 replies

I'd be more inclined to non-tender Duensing. Not a huge fan, especially considering he'll be looking at a 3 million arbitration number this winter. Rather go with a Logan Darnell as a long relief/ swing guy out of the pen. I do agree with buying out Burton however. His spot looks tailor made for Burdi.- 61 replies

I doubt we'll be signing a Lester or Shields, so yeah, I'd rather develop the young guys. I'm looking at 2017 before being able to legitimately contend,so try to get Meyer and Berrios ready to be 1-2 starters by then.- 61 replies

I would add Jason Wheeler to this list. These six need to be in the mix for 2015. At least at some point during the season.- 61 replies

I love prospects like Tyler Duffey that improve as they move up the ladder. Usually it's the other way around; the player will start out like a house on fire early in their career and then start struggling as they face tougher competition higher in the minor league chain. From all indications, Duffey is consistently improving all his pitches. Especially the change-up which Seth mentioned. Duffey is part of a trio of starting pitchers (including left-hander Jason Wheeler and another lefty in Seth's top 10) that I think could surprise and surface with the big club in 2015.

Agree. Too many other players to protect. I doubt a team can afford to pick him up in Rule 5 and carry on the major league roster for all of 2015. I'm hoping he comes back, has a good start in AA or AAA, and then maybe gets a call up to the Twins if a middle reliever goes on the DL.

Mr. Alex Wimmers. It'll be interesting watching what his status is this offseason. He's getting up in years. Do the Twins consider him a prospect anymore? Are his injuries behind him? Can he be a swingman at the major league level...i.e.Swarzak? I thought he should have been sent to AFL to find out once and for all if he can get top flight hitters out.

I believe if you are signed at age 19 or older you have four years before you are eligible for Rule 5. If 18 or younger (like a lot of the international signees) then you have five years. BTW...there is a handy Organizational Chart link at the top and bottom of Twins Daily website that gives tons of information about each player in the Twins organization; including when they need to be placed on the 40-man or be exposed to Rule 5. Goodrum is eligible for the draft this December. Harrison in December, 2015.

Uh oh...I can already see a former 1st rd pick from about 4 years ago isn't going to make the 50-man cut this time.

Seth - does the fact that Cederoth projects long term as a reliever knock him down a little in the rankings? I hope the Twins give him at least another year at starter for Cedar Rapids.

Outstanding! Garver was my choice also. Let's see...Garver 9th rd in 2013. Murphy 9th rd in 2014. Can't wait to see who we draft next year in round 9!- 23 replies
