  1. No kidding. Try telling JO that he won't open the season in the big league rotation! That's his goal. We'll see...
  2. Hope I'm wrong, but this might be the last year we see Niko Goodrum on a Twins' top prospect list. I would have went a little higher with Jason Wheeler. Even though he doesn't have the over-powering "stuff", he obviously knows how to pitch and improves at each level. Also, outstanding control as evidenced by his BB/9 ratio.
  3. I think we'll probably cut a deal with the Braves also. Do you remember how good of a prospect Bullock was when he was sent to the Braves? Wonder who would be comparable in our system now.
  4. Even Mike Trout struggled a bit and was sent back to AAA. Twice!
  5. It could get even more crowded later in the year depending on how Tyler Duffey, Jason Wheeler and Taylor Rogers do in the early part of the minor league season. They all have significant upside. Plus, Wheeler is already on the 40-man. Also, let's not forget the extension talks that will be coming with Hughes leading up to the trade deadline.
  6. Seth- Isn't Peavey on the same service time duration as, say, an Alex Wimmers (who also was drafted in 2010)? Do you know why he was available in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 instead of the major league one? Just curious.
  7. One thing I especially like about Ervin Santana is that he's an innings eater. With May/Meyer/Berrios possibly seeing time in the rotation this season there will be a number of short starts. Happens with all young starters, Hopefully, Hughes and Santana can save the bullpen from getting worn down like the last couple years.
  8. Can anybody think of any famous left-handed knuckleballers that played in the major leagues? I can come up with Wilbur Wood from the 60's/70's and Bobby Shantz who played in the 50's and early 60's. Sure there are some others.
  9. One of the nice things about having a deep minor league system is that we can offer up a player to the Braves to keep Graham around, even if it's not on the 25-man.Give Graham a few innings in spring training. If he shows enough promise but we don't want to bring him north, offer a player to the Braves that they might like. Then he can develop further at Chatanooga or Rochester. Especially important if we want to convert Graham to a reliever.
  10. Actually, after Santana, there are only three players left on the free agent market that require giving up a draft pick: Scherzer, Shields and Melky Cabrera. Doubt the Twins are "in" on any of them.
  11. Look for extension talks with Hughes leading up to the trading deadline. If it appears that he's chasing the big $$$ I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealt before August (assuming the Twins are out of the race). There are advantages to dealing Hughes this year as opposed to waiting till 2016. Think Samardzija & D Price.
  12. Excited to see what Duffey, Rogers and Wheeler do this year. Could we be talking about 1 or 2 of these guys by the time Aug/Sept rolls around? Wouldn't surprise me,
  13. I agree. Aaron Hicks is one of the primary reasons Hunter is here IMO. I believe they're trying to instill a sense of work ethic and professionalism in young Aaron. He has a lot of the tools that are needed to succeed, but just isn't applying them right now. Maybe Torii can light a fire under his you-know-what.
  14. Hunter in 2016? If guys like Buxton & Rosario are not patrolling the OF by 2016 it's going to be a whole lot longer than I thought before the Twins are championship contenders.
  15. Byron Buxton definitely could have gotten to the ball that Torii let drop in the gif. He also would have ended up with a separated shoulder.
  16. If Hunter is going to be a mentor, it's hard to believe Hicks won't be on the opening day roster. Can't see the reasoning of bringing in Hunter if Hicks is sitting in AAA.
  17. Twins have too many DH types on the roster without much defensive ability. Pinto, Hunter, Arcia, Vargas... Have to believe there are more deals coming via the trade route.
  18. I think Duensing is non-tendered. Logan Darnell can perform his role out of the 'pen in '15. Wouldn't mind seeing Eduardo Nunez tendered, if only to see if he beats the over/under on the number of times he's expected to lose his helmet while running the bases!
  19. I agree. Plouffe is an asset that can be used as a trade chip for pitching. I would prefer we package him this offseason but I don't think the Twins are planning on going that direction. Now, at the July 31st trade deadline, that's a different story. Maybe I have more faith than most in Sano coming up early in the '15 season and working out just fine at 3B. In any event, I think Trevor's days at 3B are numbered. So, I would say "no" to the extension.
  20. Agree that everything that is done transaction-wise should be aimed at being a championship contender in 2017. 2015 & 2016 should be used to build towards that goal. At the same time, I can sympathize with those folks that say four consecutive 90 loss seasons is more than enough. Need to show improvement this year.
  21. Plus, the instructors that know him best are on our major league coaching staff right now. Molitor and Hernandez worked with Rosario in the minors and/or minor league spring training. No reason they can't work with him at Target Field.
  22. Ask Alex if he would be okay with starting out in the 'pen with the Twins and then eventually work into the rotation.
  23. What happens if players on your 40-man are non-tendered in early Dec after your 40-man roster is set? I assume you can't replace them? This is in reference to Duensing, Swarzak or Nunez?
  24. Seth - does Alex Wimmers need to be added to your list of 2nd year guys?
  25. I would try to find a way to protect Wheeler & Gilmartin. Wheeler could be a surprise this year at the big league level. Gilmartin could be the 2015 version of Pino/Johnson/Darnell - swing guy between Rochester and the Twins.
