  1. Duensing has pitched very well for the Twins, once they convinced him he's not really a starter. But, he has just turned 32 and that's about the age that you start wondering when a pitcher will start breaking down. Glen Perkins also just turned 32. See where I'm going here? Package Perkins and Duensing and try to get one of the Mets higher level starters and another arm to be named later.
  2. The last stats I saw on Sano, his 2 HR's were his only hits in 10 AB's. He also struck out twice. Upside, he walked 3 times. He needs to shake off some rust and get a better handle on breaking balls. I haven't read any stories on this throwing, so I'm assuming the elbow is OK.
  3. Seth, the 1st part of your post is my thing, too. Escobar had a really good season. Why isn't he at least in the conversation to be the starting SS?
  4. If I'm trading Escobar, I'd try to clear a spot in the starting rotation. I have no love for Nolasco, so he'd be the guy I'd pick. I honestly think Escobar deserved a shot at the starting SS job. I'm really surprised to read people turning on both Escobar and Santana. They both stepped up when called on. They both responded well when facing MLB pitchers for the first time. And now that MLB pitchers have full scouting reports on both, well, let's wait and see.
  5. That 1977 team was one of the greater disappointments. There were so many good/great player on that team [Carew, Bostock, Hisle, Goltz, who threw 303 innings that year]. The rest of the team was, politely, not good. No other hitter with an average over .265. No other starting pitcher with more wins than loses and their closer was as close to a bullpen starter as you can get: 146 inning, 3.13 era, 16-7 record and 15 saves. Oh, what could have been.....
  6. This is a very good thing! That toe-tap was really messing him up, especially from the left side. The leg kick keeps him from leaning away from the pitch. Will it help him like it help Kirby Puckett? I really hope so! It's the mental side that I'm still concerned about. That gaffe yesterday is not a good sign and Molitor did the right thing.
  7. Are you guys watching the game live? Seriously, I'm jonesing for baseball so bad I'd even watch a Yankees game
  8. Guys, I can get to it. http://northernpitch.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-soccer-news/minnesota-soccer/welcome-to-northern-pitch-r41 I should point out I'm not at work, so nobody's trying to block it.
  9. With that type of attitude, he'll go far!
  10. You know darn well that this is something that is almost impossible to search for. Impossible like a guy in year 3 of a 10yr. $252mil contract being traded. All of this is completely irrelevant. In my original post, I put a smiley face after my comment "Gibson [because Santana got traded : ]" indicating I was having fun with it. YOU decided to attack me and question my "credibility". Give it a rest.
  11. My credibility? Yeah, like there's never been a playoff team needing to add another SP for the run up to the playoffs.....
  12. I'm of the mind that you don't know a players value until you put them on the wavier wire and see how the rest of MLB feels about them. Here's what we know: May improved enough last year and Milone has the track record to say they are MLB quality. I'd put Meyer in the 5 spot as an audition. I'd have Nolasco on a short leash. My target mid-season rotation would be: Hughes Meyer Milone May Gibson [because Santana got traded ] I kinda like the balance....
  13. From what I've seen 25 is the make or break line for minor leaguers. Both May and Meyer are there. The problem goes back to Terry Ryan signing middle of the road [AT BEST] starters and are often coming off injuries. Nice in theory to do that, but he signs them to more than a 1 year make-or-break contract. And in some cases [Pelfry] he extends them. Based on his KC numbers, Ervin Santana at least gives me a little hope.
  14. Nice article. Is Wheeler someone to look for next year?
  15. Phil Hughes had a good year. The stat I like the best for pitchers is WHIP and last year was his 2nd lowest at 1.130. And that after Rick Anderson changed his delivery [WHAT??? RICK ANDERSON DID SOMETHING RIGHT???] On the down side: 1. Last year he threw the most innings in his career, 2. History shows that after a successful season, he has a bad year, 3. 16 BB's in 209 innings. Can we realistically expect that again? I still believe it was incredibly stupid for the Twins to extend his inning in a long ago lost year, just so Hughes could get his 16th win. The changeup is a low stress pitch, is thrown at a slower speed that his other pitch and on a different plane. Showing it a few times will give hitters something else to think about.
  16. season hasn't started yet and I'm already sick of Torii Hunter...
  17. Wow. Too bad, he was really something to watch. GM Daniels said "Darvish could try to pitch through the injury, rest it for up to four months or undergo surgery. Daniels said the club would get a second opinion this weekend but indicated surgery may be the preferred option." I think we've seen it too many times where rest doesn't help on partially torn ligaments.
  18. This past week, Molitor was pretty firm on the topic of Pelfrey and Meyer: he considers both starters, only. I'm a little surprised on Pelfrey, not so much on Meyer.
  19. Really nice story. Although the part about Terry Ryan checking out his hips kinda creeps me out :-)
  20. Just tossing this headline out there. It's from an investment site I follow. "Don't Be Fooled By The Nattering Naybobs Of Negativism" I don't give much credence to national writers who give us a lot of "Yeah, but" type explanations.
  21. What's going on [if anything] with Danny Santana? I didn't see his name in the box-score yesterday. Seth, as it stands right now, I'd say you're right on. I'd really like to see more youth on this team, but TR's spending is killing that idea. Milone would make a lot more sense if the rest of the starting staff had more power in their fastball. Hughes and Gibson would/may be more effective as well.
