    I disagree that if they want to make a playoff push they would trade Gray in general... but I agree with your updated offer might at least make them think.

    By nearly any measure Gray has been a better pitcher than Gibson throughout their careers. And he has 2 more years of team control than Gibson. Why in the world would that be even worth considering for CO? And if for some reason he was put on the block, you don't think 28 other teams wouldn't make an offer better than that?

    I know he's in AAA currently but the Rockies aren't trading Gray for expiring contracts. If they do trade him it will be for prospects, and probably pretty good ones

    I know we’re all guilty of it at times, myself included. But can we stop overrating a mediocre starting P prospect like Gonsalves? There is a 0.0% chance the Marlins trade Realmuto to the twins for a package that not only doesn’t include Lewis, but includes Gonsalves as the 2nd piece

    So are you suggesting any time the Twins have a player who has any sort of surgery they trade for a replacement because Erv Santana's finger took long to heal? That's how it comes across and it's pretty nonsensical

    What does Ervin Santana have to do with Castro? Are you anticipating a similar finger surgery for Castro next February? Again, he'll be fully healed from surgery by Sept/Oct. Pretending he is a question mark to be healthy because of this knee surgery by March next year is just ridiculous

    I don't know that there is anyone here who has said never to sign a 30 year old to a 3 year deal. I'm sure there are plenty (me included) who would not give either Ramos or Grandal more than 3 years.

    You are certainly entitled to your opinion, I'm just curious how you arrived at Perez. He's 12th in War (900 or more PA) at catcher in the past 3 years, so I wouldn't have even considered him part of the conversation

    Huh? 2014 was Realmuto’s rookie year and he played 11 games and had 29 at bats. That’s your argument that everyone has a down year? Perez has had an OPS+ higher than 91 1 time in the past 5 seasons. He’s not even in the conversation for best catcher in baseball “Just as good historically with bat”. Perez has a career 97 OPS+, Realmuto is at 112

    Considering the years would likely be low at those yearly figures, absolutely. The Twins have what, $30 million in commitments for next year? BTW I would hammer the under on Grandal getting up to $20 million / year

    Again, you said the Twins are in the same situation as the Cubs were, with the same level of talent. Buxton and Sano are NOT prospects anymore. We don't know if they are going to be good or even part of the future (I'm still a big Buxton believer btw). And again, the Cubs SIGNED Lester, they did not trade top prospects for him which you have proposed the Twins do now for Realmuto. No one arguing with you is against maybe making a FA splash this off season, which is TOTALLY different than trading the farm for a player with 2 years control now

    None of this makes sense. Mauer was a top prospect too, why aren't you including him in your Twins comparison? Again, the Cubs top prospects were CURRENT top prospects ready to start 2015 with the team. What Buxton and Sano were ranked in 2014 has ZERO relevancy to the 2019 Twins team

    Where they are currently is irrelevant? Huh? Bryant was not the top prospect in baseball in 2010 and floundering in AAA when the Cubs signed Lester. He was the current #1 prospect in baseball BTW, there is a giant difference in risking money - which the Cubs did - and trading top prospects.

    The Cubs had the #1, #4, and #14 prospects in baseball all ready to start the 2015 season in Chicago. "same level of prospects"? Sano is in A ball, Buxton is in AAA

    Again, "full mensicus repair" is a good thing for his long term knee health. I don't know why you keep using that as a negative. If he had the tear shaved instead, he'd likely be back playing by now but a much bigger question mark in the future. With 9 months to recover before Spring training he will be 100% going into next season. Whether he can hit, who knows but probably not

    Joe Mauer is 6'6", he was always going to have trouble catching long term. Comparing a mid-Dec surgery to a Mid-May surgery when it comes to being ready for the following season is pretty silly btw It has nothing to do with my knee surgeries, I am not a professional athlete. It has everything to do with the fact I understand what the procedure he had done was and it's very clear you and others in this thread don't, evidenced by the fact you keep calling a 30 minute procedure where they don't even open you up "major". It's a long recovery, 3-4 months to full health, because you need to give it 6 weeks of not bending fully so the stitches can heal. FYI so you know for the future the "much more serious than expected" line - it means the surgery required him to have his meniscus repaired instead of removing the tear. Aka - worse for 2017. It is much better for his long term knee health that it was repaired

    Twins catchers hit .231/.335/.383 last season and the Twins scored the 7th most runs in the major leagues

    So you are confident they are real? You want to trade for Realmuto now it seems. While 1 is in A ball and 1 is in AAA, that is a heck of a gamble to make. BTW - I don't disagree if they both figure it out, there could be a window next season. But there is no way I am taking the gamble of making a monster trade like this now. If that means missing out on Realmuto, oh well. For what its worth I'd also probably make Lewis untouchable, which may take you out of the running for a Realmuto anyways

    This is maybe a topic for a new thread. But people seem very hung up on Realmuto. Why has no one brought up trading for DeGrom or Syndergaard right now? I don't think the returns the Mets would get from either of them will be all that different than the return needed for Realmuto. Doesn't an Ace to go with Berrios, Romero and Gibson go a longer way to building a real contender next season?
