  1. Amen. There's a better chance I pitch for the Twins this year than Roy Oswalt.
  2. When was the last time Blacburn got shelled (or pitched, since they are hand in hand) where there wasn't an excuse offered afterwards? "Arm was too strong, ball wasn't sinking" "Arm was a little sore" "Leg was sore". If you can't pitch effectively (which I dont think he can do healthy or not) then don't go to the damn mound.
  3. Assuming Gibson can make 5 starts or so this year at AAA, I think he has a good shot at starting next year in the majors - obviously not facing very stiff competition. I think Brandon McCarthy is exactly the type of pitcher the Twins have wanted for years, but he's actually good unlike the ones they've got. Obviously Diamond has a chance this year to win his spot in next years rotation, I guess I need to see this over a longer period of time to believe it.
  4. Of pitchers in MLB who have made at least 6 starts, the Twins have 3 (Liriano 1, Blackburn 2, Marquis 8) of the bottom 8 in ERA. Hendriks started 4 games and has a worse ERA (9.00) than any of them. Pavano is far and away the best with a 5.14 ERA. A lot of the focus has been on the offense recently, but what the hell is the plan with the rotation for the remainder of 2012 and for 2013? I think they will end up trading Pavano for whatever they can get in July. Hendriks will be back at some point, maybe Swarzak, Duensing, Devries get starts at some point. The only thing keeping Marquis here right now is the $3 million, but I'm guessing that will get written off as a sunk cost soon and they will cut ties. What do you realistically propose for 2013? Here would be my hope Gibson Hendriks Brandon McCarthy Ryan Dempster/ Erik Bedard/ Anibel Sanchez Blackburn (by default due to his contract) I think this is semi realistic, and should be a rotation in waayyyy better shape than this year. Plus they'd have Scott Diamond, Anthony Swarzak and others to fill in if needed.
  5. The Yankees have David Robertson, Rafael Soriano, Phil Hughes (guessing will get moved to 'pen soon), Boone Logan. Why exactly would they be interested in Capps?
  6. I would put the Rangers, Rays, Yankees and possibly Boston and LAA before the Tigers. Atrocious defense and the pitching gets mediocre real quick after Verlander.
  7. What in the world makes people think Roy Oswalt would have any interest in signing with the Twins?? My god people, he turned down offers from the Red Sox, Cardinals, etc. He is content waiting till June before signing with a CONTENDER
  8. Is that you Gardy? If only we could quantify that "bulldog attitude" into results.
  9. I agree with the overall setiment of this post. I have a problem with how they constructed their bullpen, but I don't think it was a case of being cheap, more so not using the money correctly (Capps). What does signing Ryan Madsen (pre-injury) do for this team? They won 63 games last year, why would they spend a premium price for a 1 year rental at closer? I don't understand the Marquis signing, as he seems like a guy who may not have had any other Major league offers. I was overjoyed with the signing of Willingham for $10 million less than Cuddyer. Why were people in such a rush to reassemble a 99 loss team? In my opinion, the Twins are doing themselves no favors by pretending this isn't the beginning of hopefully a short, rebuilding period. If they came out an explained to the average fan their plan to get back into contention, there may not be such a public backlash about the payroll decreasing.
  10. Really? So arguably the worst rotation in baseball, could add a mediocre Edwin Jackson and be honorable mention for best rotation in baseball? How do you figure? I would ask why you think it would be wise to spend $10 million on a rent a pitcher, when the team is clearly rebuilding, but its obvious you think Edwin would've gotten a 63 win team over the hump
  11. Gardenhire has never been big on lefty/righty platoons, but I would like to see Doumit/Revere vs right handers and Plouffe vs lefties in Right Field.
  12. Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't seen who is expected to start in Right Field on Opening day and going forward? Is it going to be Doumit when he isn't catching? Is it going to be Plouffe? How do you expect the split to work between Doumit, Plouffe, Revere and what would you do if you were Gardy?
  13. Agreed. It is nice to think that Hughes may have figured things out, but people are basing it off of 2 nice spring trainings. The last time he hit above .250 was in 2008 in AA-AAA and he's never hit more than 18 home runs in a season, I'm not sure where the .280 20+ home run predictions come from.
  14. Hughes can't play SS, so I don't think him starting at 2B would really change the need for a backup SS. Casilla being hurt may increase the chance of needing a backup SS, since I think as of now he is the backup there.
  15. Parker, you took this post completely out of context. The title was "10 bold predictions" and under the Morneau one, Bowden writes "This might be going out on a limb a little too far, but it’s my blog and I can do whatever I want here". There is no basis for this in the least, it is a failed GM throwing crap at the wall and hoping something sticks.
  16. Top 5 in WAR at 3B, 3rd most home runs by a switch hitter, almost 3k hits, MVP - votes in MVP race 12 times. And whether it should matter or not, he went to the playoffs like 14 times while playing for 1 team. Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken, Rickey Henderson have all been 1st ballot recently, and IMO Chipper is easily in that class.
  17. On the Powertrip this morning, I know you were put on the spot, but you said Chipper Jones is not a hall of famer. Care to take that back? He'll be in 1st ballot..
  18. Is there a reason you don't trust someone with proven major league experience, yet think Nishi is capable of taking over the SS position mid-season?
  19. Please, lets just stop here. Ichiro Suzuki might be the greatest pure contact hitter of many of our lifetimes. Ben Revere owns a .600 career OPS. Revere may very well turn out to be a fine contact hitter, but lets not use his name in the same sentence as Ichiro. I heard Blackburn is working on a cutter, would it be safe to say if things go well he will be Roy Halladay?
  20. You just compared Revere to Ichiro, I think that opens the door for any comps...
  21. Metrodome Target Field Wrigley US Cellular Busch -original Jacobs Field Comerica Park Kaufmann Stadium Coors Field Miller Park Camden Yards Will be adding Fenway Park to that list this year. If I had to rank my favorites in order; Target Field, Jacobs Field, Kauffman, Camden, Coors, Busch, Wrigley, Comerica, Miller, The Cell, Dome
  22. I've never seen Bates play, but I think its safe to assume if he could catch at a Major league level, he would certainly be playing there.
  23. I agree with most of the responses, and think a guy like Carroll is a huge obp improvement over previous 2 hole hitters in this lineup. I think the main concern is, the defense isn't that good anymore, and the pitching staff is pitch to contact. The team is going to need to score more runs than maybe the '08 version did.
  24. The lineup that most people expect to start the season (and Gardenhire has even hinted at) includes the following players: Jamey Carroll Alexi Casilla Joe Mauer Denard Span Ben Revere Is it a bit concerning to anyone else that more than half the lineup will not hit the ball out of the ballpark (I do think Mauer will hit 10 or so)? I dont know what the market would be for Span coming off his injuries, and don't endorse trading him for a relief pitcher, but is having a lineup with such little power really viable? If Plouffe looks ready to hit and play right field, do you look into moving Span or Revere? Do you wait for the inevitable Casilla injury and hope Hughes can provide a little pop at 2B?
