  1. Trevor May's peripherals were better than Ok last year, and the Twins shifted May to the bullpen in order to keep Mike Pelfrey in the rotation (who was on the last year of his deal). They kept May in the bullpen this year largely because of the long term deals to Nolasco, Santana, and Hughes. They also didn't call up this same top prospect that many thought could help the rotation last September, while Pelfrey got rocked repeatedly in a playoff race. So I'm kind of unclear what reasoning you have to be so sure of this.
  2. "Hughes cannot survive in the rotation with a 91mph fastball" in no way means "No one can survive in a rotation with a 91mph fastball"
  3. The original poster said its clear this season should be about playing the kids... I think it was obvious to all that he meant guys with a future here, 2017 and beyond contributors, etc. It goes without saying Sano is part of that group (Arcia as well to a less degree), so no, I still don't understand how you got from "Play the kids" to mean "Sit Sano and Arcia". I mean he never even mentioned performance once, he said play the kids... how did you get to the point of checking Sano's batting avg based off of what he said? But no need to continue the back and forth, have a good day.
  4. No one is sad about the loss of JR Graham. The confusion/ anger is how the talent evaluation is so bad that they felt he was worthy of a 25 man spot during 2015 while in a playoff chase, and a 40 man spot this winter. The 40 man and players who needed to be added soon were largely the exact same last year, and in November, when they felt he was worthy of keeping
  5. I agree with you it wouldn't be wise to trade Santana, because he is one of their best 5 pitchers, and I'm not sure he's going to bring a whole lot back in a trade. I disagree with the notion that trading him would discourage FA's from signing here, total myth
  6. The part you bolded and replied to was suggesting we should test out the kids this season, you said you disagreed because that would mean Sano and Arcia wouldn't deserve to be in... still confused.
  7. He was coming back from injury - little different situation. I agree that's what should happen, but I'm far from convinced that's what will happen. But yes, I would say a minimum of 2 starts for each starter before a decision needs to be made, Nolasco could pitch himself out of the rotation still as well.
  8. What does this even mean? If we were to test out the kids it would mean 23 year old Sano and 25 year old Arcia would be out of luck?
  9. Exactly. It's mind boggling that people are defending how this was handled. In July and August they were willing to play a man short so they could keep this guy, and by early May he was removed from the 40 man - even though his spot wasn't needed and there are plenty of waivable guys on there.
  10. I don't think there's any need to worry about this. I believe the call has been made, but why in the hell would Torii want to join in this mess? His son's football seasons will be starting in a few months, etc.
  11. If the plan was to build the farm system up why didn't they actually try to do that, instead of just having the "good fortune" of picking in the top 6 numerous times. IE; trading Perkins, Willingham, Suzuki, etc. Top prospects they currently have; Sano / Kepler / Polanco all in the system before your 5 year window Buxton, Jay, Gordon, Stewart top 6 picks Berrios / Burdi - high 2nd round picks Frankly I don't see one shred of evidence to suggest this was their "plan". If it was, they would have traded veterans for prospects, not given up a draft pick to sign Ervin Santana, paid Ricky Nolasco, etc.
  12. That's a discussion for another day, but I strongly disagree.
  13. I'd be fine keeping Santana around because he's probably one of the best 5 Starters this year and next. I think the "veteran" aspect is a load of crap though
  14. I've got some bad news Loosey... there won't be a return, even minimal for Nolasco. A win would be getting someone to take on most of the contract
  15. I pretty clearly wrote former MLB players with no managerial experience. Doug Mientkiewicz has managerial experience in the minors, as much as I hate the Twins Country Club, I would consider him. What in the world are Raul Ibanez's qualifications? He played for a long time?
  16. I'll take a hard pass on another former player with no managerial experience. Which of these has worked out? Matheny? Even he gets plenty of scrutiny, he just has had really good rosters.
  17. I agree with all of this. And when I recall Buxton I tell my manager that if Danny Santana gets more than 1 start per week he is going to be out of a job. Or I just trade Santana for whatever I can get so he doesn't even have the option
  18. This thread is about selling because the Twins are 8-23. I don't think anyone was thinking trading Plouffe, Dozier, etc. would get them back into it in 2016.
  19. I'll just throw this out there, knowing full well comparisons aren't always quite as simple as this. Player A, 31 yo 3B: 1,988 MLB Plate Appearances; .269/.311/.424 101 OPS+ Player B 29 yo 3B: 2,638 MLB Plate Appearaqnces: .246/.308/.422 100 OPS+ Player A - Danny Valencia Player B - Trevor Plouffe
  20. If Trevor Plouffe was totally healthy right now and hitting closer to what he did last year, I don't think he would get more than a C prospect. He's a non-tender candidate next year - would be in line to be the 5th highest paid 3rd baseman in baseball
  21. I didn't say everyone has failed at their job, and I'm sure there would be some employees who stick around. There are a lot of people in Baseball Operations. But a new GM (and president) should come in, and have the ability to choose their own people to surround themselves with. I would guess the new GM would want to expand things like analytics department, have their own right hand man, etc. Pretty standard stuff for the top of the organization
  22. Keith Law called his slider "Plus" in his February prospect article. I'm not sure where that poster got that information, but maybe he just had a bad night with the slider or its an innacurate report... little more likely than all these scouting reports saying his slider was his best pitch were wrong?
  23. Nice to see Arcia and Rosario have settled into a weird little platoon where one of them has a bad game and is on the bench the next day. PS: Danny Santana's ops is under .600, again
  24. I think most people are...Why would they keep those guys around Post-Ryan?
