  1. I would trade Plouffe and Dozier, but I don't expect much of a return for either. See if you can get a ML ready bullpen piece, or else some higher ceiling, lower probability prospect. I think Plouffe would be an ideal Platoon partner at DH with Arica if Park gets traded, but his salary next year is too high for that. I would definitely trade Nunez, wouldn't expect anything great for him but should get something. If I can get good value for Park I trade him. I really hope Jepsen remembers how to get ML hitters out and hope he has any sort of trade deadline value. I would definitely trade Danny Santana but doubt he holds much value (Rosario is my 2017 4th outfielder) I would not trade Gibson, and would lean not trading Santana. I would rather them in the 2017 rotation than Hughes (bullpen), and most of the pitching prospects outside of Berrios likely won't be a ML factor until 2018. So you've got Berrios, Duffey, Gibson, Santana and May/Meyer.
  2. Just my opinion, but I bet most teams outside of MN see Plouffe as a platoon player (ala Danny Valencia). I don't see the Royals being interested with Cuthbert and HDozier
  3. Half the posters on this site want to write off Byron Buxton, a phenomenal defensive Cf and top prospect in all of baseball, based on a terrible 125 age 21 and 50 age 22 at bats in the majors. Yet it seems like 3/4 of the same posters can't wait for ABW, who's K rate in AA/AAA is almost double Buxton's, doesn't have a position, and will be 25 when season ends.
  4. You didn't really clear up what I was confused by. How do you suggest he "learn to hit a good breaking ball" if he's only seeing "aaa fastballs"?. Sure if his walk rate was 14% instead of 8% it would be great, but he's getting on base nearly 40% of the time and slugging almost .600. I'm really unclear why people keep wanting to move the goalposts when it comes to Buxton, Go ahead and disagree with me in when he should come back up (I say sooner than later, couple weeks), but don't act like what he is doing in AAA right now is just meh.
  5. If a player with Article XIX-A rights refuses an Optional Assignment but does not elect free-agency, the club must either retain the player on the club's MLB Reserve List (40-man roster) AND Active List (25-man roster), trade the player, or give the player his unconditional release.
  6. You certainly may be right. But wouldn't he Qualify under Article XIX-A. So maybe my wording was wrong about just becoming a FA, but can't he refuse the assignment? If a player with Article XIX-A rights refuses an Outright Assignment but does not elect free-agency, the club must either retain the player on the club's MLB Reserve List (40-man roster), trade the player, or give the player his unconditional release.
  7. I agree with most of your points in how they are using players/ personel wrong, but pretty much everything you listed is a GM or Managers job...
  8. You're mixing together DFA and Waivers I think. I believe Ricky could decline a minor league option, making him a free agent (Twins pay whole contract) because he has 5+ years of service time.
  9. He was a smart, analytical guy that did not fit the Gardy "bulldog" mentality... Coaches, announcers (Bert especially) took every opportunity to rip him, even when he was still in the organization.. That's just what I remember but someone could correct me
  10. Huh? You missed the point by a wide margain
  11. Just to get this straight. Its irrelevant what he does in AAA until he can hit a good (Major League?) breaking ball. BUT, lets look at AAA at some stats like 24 k's in 113 plate appearances to deduce he still can't hit a good breaking ball yet. Just curious, how many of those K's were on good breaking balls? How many of the 15 extra base hits in 103 at bats were off good breaking balls? When do you suggest calling him up, because I'm not sure he can reach your standard of learning to hit a ML breaking ball in AAA... never? FWIW, he has 13 K's in his last 79 (11 in 1st 34 this year) AAA plate appearances, not a bad number at all and people seem to love small sample sizes when it comes to Buxton.
  12. They brought in a new, highly respected GM last September, after canning the previous under-performing one in late August.. Hmmmmmm
  13. This is why 1 All Star per team is so stupid. I for one, would sure as hell rather watch Correa, Boegarts, Lindor all in the All Star game than Eduardo Nunez take one of their spots.
  14. Just an FYI, AAA has an All Star Break as well
  15. This. Whenever he is up he better damn well be in the lineup every day for the rest of the season. No more of the 3 days on, 1 day off crap that they gave him in early April. I would lean 2-3 weeks. And when he came up I would expect some growing pains... but ride it out. He's going to be a star
  16. I would love to get a look back into that contract extension negotiation. I'm assuming Hughes agent called TR to start the convo. "So Terry, Phil had a pretty great year. Listen, we know he's under contract for 2 more seasons and this was really his only good season he has had in the Majors... but he would be willing to sign an extension today only... it will only cost $42 milion for 3 years. Just think of the potential savings, if he somehow duplicates 2014 two times, those 3 years would potentially cost $60 million! You would be saving the Pohlad's a whopping $6 million/ year in 2017, 2018, and 2019 if everything goes perfectly and Phil stays healthy and repeats this outlier season twice." "Ok lets do it" - TR
  17. Or you can even sign a guy who is still relatively young with some potential upside to a slightly high based on performance salary, but for only 3 years and certainly not crippling money. But whatever you do... just do NOT extend this guy after year 1 of that 3 year contract
  18. Again I ask, what is considered poor performance if losing 90+ games 5 times in 6 years does not qualify? 24 of 30* MLB teams have made the playoffs since 2011. The Twins haven't, and are on pace to lose 120 games this season . It is amazing that this standard of how long it takes to build a team only applies to Terry Ryan for some *of the 6 that haven't made the playoffs, 2 lead their division (CWS, Seattle), 1 is over .500 (Miami), 1 is 3 games under .500 (Colorado). And then there is; The Padres at 19-29 The Twins at 12-34 Excellent company
  19. You can throw Hughes in there as well, since they gave him 3 years $42 million for ages 31, 32, 33
  20. Do you think knowing the internal workings is needed, or do you think we could use standings to evaluate? One of 5 teams that haven't won a playoff game in 11 years, and the 29th best record in baseball over the past 5. If we aren't allowed to use that to assess, what can we use? What would you consider poor performance if this doesn't qualify?
  21. Fair points, but largely ignored the fact that he was under contract for 2 full seasons. Pitching being a little thin really shouldn't play into it at all, he contractually could not have gone anywhere until 2017 at the earliest.
  22. Because these guys are in A ball and a long ways from the Majors. Putting Gonsalves behind Stewart and Jay, two top 100 prospects in all of baseball, is no knock on him for what its worth
  23. Definitely Stewart and Jay. You're scouting the stat line
  24. I guess I can only speak for myself. I hated it the moment it was signed, and I also hated extending Perkins with 3 years left on his deal. The Perkins one was "safer", but both were so totally unnecessary *Fairness in conversation, I kinda liked the Nolasco signing
  25. I've been watching more than I should... I think it's partly the whole train wreck / can't look away factor. But at some point for my health I need to stop, and that point might be when Buxton is called back up and Danny Santana continues to play
