And he gave up 1 run in four innings. Even last year when he came back from injury he pitched better. I get velocity is nice but we can't always ignore results. And his stuff has always played up due to his length. I am less worried about Ober, he can get batters out the old fashioned way by pitching.

Spring Training Usage Tracker: Luke the Left Fielder
karcherd replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let Keaschall play one position to learn and get comfortable with that position. We have seen he has a lot of work to do to play the outfield. So let him play 2B where he looks more comfortable and learn the position. Stop making everyone into utility players. I want to see the 12 best position players make the roster plus whoever whoever is the backup SS. Yes I know positions matter as well, but I don't like having Wagaman on the roster just to balance the roster. He brings limited defense and very little offense, there are players having better camps.- 38 replies

Piggybacking doesn't work in the real world. The game situation starting the 7th inning is going to dictate pitching matchups and you can't just assume who ever comes in to pitch second will get more than two innings.- 38 replies

Luke Keaschall Expands His Defensive Toolbox
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with your points here. The difference, they are not talking about moving Keaschall to LF. This article is about having him play some LF along with 2B. And the reason to do this is to get Clemens in the lineup. Even for one game, this is misguided, if 2B is his position Let him play there every day and learn the position and get better at it. Now if Lee and Culpepper are both just raking and we need their bat's in the lineup and the corner outfielders are not producing then I would be in favor of moving Keaschall to LF on a permanent basis to get the better bats in the lineup. But just for a game here and there to get a lesser bat in the lineup, why would you do that.- 55 replies

Luke Keaschall Expands His Defensive Toolbox
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes having one or two versatile guys can be helpful, but we are talking about Keaschall. And they are not talking about getting a Kaline or Northrup into the lineup, they are talking about getting Clemens into the lineup. That makes no sense and you know it. The backup shortstop will be the utility player, you don't need every player to play multiple positions.- 55 replies

Luke Keaschall Expands His Defensive Toolbox
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not every player is a utility player or is comfortable moving around. Ben Zobrist started out as a utility player and made himself into an everyday player. Betts is the exception to the rule. The Twins have subpar defense at almost every position, let a player develop at a position and see if they have the ability. This isn't a board game where you can just move players around because it sounds like a good idea.- 55 replies

Luke Keaschall Expands His Defensive Toolbox
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This isn't about moving Keaschall to LF, per Shelton it is about playing him there in addition to 2B. Everyone mentioned above moved positions except for Cuddyer who played multiple positions. If you want to move him to LF that is a different discussion but to put him in the lineup and play LF to get Clemens in the lineup is madness.- 55 replies

Luke Keaschall Expands His Defensive Toolbox
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Shelton's quote shows how maddening this strategy is. You want to move what should be one of your better players to a different position so you can fit Clemens into the lineup. The goal needs to be to put your best lineup out there everyday with regular positions. If players like Clemens are limited by position capabilities which I don't think he is, then find different bench players that compliment your best players and their positions. Most players play better when they are comfortable and can play the same position and bat in the same place in the lineup, they are creatures of habit. Mookie Betts is the exception not the rule. Why do we keep moving players around to fit in lesser players in the lineup. Clemens is a nice role player that should get around 200 AB's and maybe pinch hit in the later innings. Aim higher for once please.- 55 replies

Minnesota Twins 2026 Position Analysis: Second Base
karcherd replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And now today they have Keaschall in LF. Let him get comfortable at one position, quit trying to make everyone into utility players. Versatility is nice but you first have to master a position. And it's not like we are short on outfielders. I was really hoping this moving everyone around madness would stop, we will see.- 19 replies

The last three years he has played between 50 and 60 games at catcher. They may consider him a backup but that would be it. Yet at a minimum we are going to ask him to start at least another 40 games at catcher and maybe more if Jeffers is moved. Yet all these teams with supposed with catching issues didn't sign him. Doesn't seem like a great use of resources but then that is not Falvey's strength.

This is a typical Falvey signing. Teams don't really view Caratini as a C but somehow the Twins superior staff will convert him into one. Even playing half time with Jeffers if that is the plan, is this really the best use of assets. Bell was a similar signing, he is no longer is a first baseman but are they are really going to insist on running him out there 120 games or more. And no Clemens is not the answer at 1B. I would love to see Falvey for once try to strengthen the top end of the roster and get quality players here or develop your prospects and trust them to play. This playing at the edges is getting ridiculous. You can blame the Pholad's all you want but Falvey has been an absolute failure and is in over his head. He can't develop players, identify talent that can be difference makers and he no idea on how to manage the resources he is given.

Minnesota’s Three Unluckiest Hitters in 2025
karcherd replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What 1B signing is going to happen. They just traded for Wagaman and signed Bell. It is pretty clear the plan is for those two to hold down first base. Now it is a very flawed plan, but Falvey is the genius not us on TD.- 27 replies

These articles about the bullpen are great but we all know the Falvey plan. He will wait until late February to sign whatever is left over and annoint this pitcher as the closer because they will unlock something that no one else has been able to. This is where Falvey doesn't do a good job with his limited resources. We need an anchor in the bullpen and at least one or two other guys who can pitch late innings. But instead of using his finite resources to fix an obvious area of need he spends $7m on another bat first DH when we have players on the roster who can match the production of Bell. Bell is redundant on this roster and with all the moves being made we will be blocking potential difference makers. But we won't know anything about these players, ie. ERod, or GG because they won't be given opportunities. We need needle movers, which an anchor of the bullpen could be, not another average bat. Use the resources given in a more efficient manner and give us some hope at least of being competitive.

It is past time to realize Falvey is just not that good at his job. Every GM or POBO has budget limitations except 4 or 5. It is what you do with the resources given and he has not done a good job with this. He gave $11m to Gallo when he had no other offers near that amount and he had two good weeks for that amount. It seems every move they make, they see something in the player they will unlock. This would be fine if you weren't counting on these players to be contributors on your major league roster. Trying this periodically is one thing but they are bringing in 4 to 6 players every year with the same mantra with limited success and then they do not cut bait when the performance isn't there. If your development of players is so good, develop the prospects that you have invested in and make them into major league contributors, if not move on from them. He has no plan, find players who can be contributors on a regular basis and can be competent at one position and try to field a competitive team. If this move means Keaschall sees more time in the OF, that is just sheer stupidity and a dereliction of duty. Having one maybe two players with versatility helps a team but not every player can move around or is comfortable with doing that. This is where I blame the Pholads, get someone competent to run the baseball side of the operation that can at least show us they have a plan. And at a minimum give us some reason to watch this team. Watching all these AAAA types or past their prime vets is just getting old.

He helped out so much, that they decided to DFA him after one season. So we have added another bat first player who is not even a good bat. And all the domino moves make us worse. We now will have at least 4 players that should be the 13th man on the roster on this team as best case scenario, Wagaman, Clemens, Gasper and Kriedler. And Outman if he makes the team.

It isn't the actual company but one of the founders individually that is investing in the Twins. Small difference but still different.

I believe that by not rebuilding it is just a commitment to aging vets or AAAA guys that they hope will figure it out. This is not a formula for success. By signing these types of players you are not giving the younger players chances and you can't keep waiting until they are 26 or 27 to find out what you have. We keep hearing about how hyped our farm system, at some point they have to be used in the major leagues. Gleeman tweeted out a couple of interesting facts today, one is we are one of only four teams not to sign a MLB free agent. The other is that six relievers have already gone off the board, the tier one and two guys are drying up. So is this just another sign they are going to go dumpster diving again this year, that is the fear. I would rather see some of the kids like Jenkins, ERod and Culpepper, it at least gives some hope for the future. And if they all flame out, you at least know where you stand. This would be more preferable than seeing the Margots or IKF's types being run out there on a daily basis. And I am not convinced that we don't have some talent on this roster, more than some want to give credit for. I think Lewis is still going to be an above average player. And Ober had a bad year, but he has been above average before that. So supplement these guys with the young prospects not the AAAA players or aging vets that they keep trying to convince us are impact players.

Wallner is a perfect example of their impatience with the younger players. In 24 he was sent down after two weeks and 25 AB's. Yes I know his K rate was off the charts, but it was 25 AB's. And he was 26 years old. And he was kept down in the minors for a month longer than he probably should have been. That was the year to find out if he could be part of the core moving forward. With his pedigree from both college and the minors as a 2nd round pick, you need to develop players like this when you are in our market. And remember he was consistently pinch hit for by the pinch hitting machine Margot. Now they are hoping he can be a core part of the team, they should know by now. As for MIranda, he should have been given the 1B job in 23 over Solano and Gallo after his 22 season, maybe we wouldn't have the hole at 1B that we have now. Definitely last year France should not have been handed the job over Miranda. Was it the beaning or the complete lack of confidence shown in him that broke him last year. Unfortunately we will never know.
