Let me restate, in my opinion they were not in a rebuild, we do not know the conversations between Falvey and Tom P. What we do know is when Falvey left it was clearly reported that he was not happy with having the business operations duties that he had been given a year earlier taken away. He felt one person could oversee both business and baseball operations even though the Twins have never operated that way. The only reason he was given the business operations was St. Peter stepped down and the team was for sale. They were not going to bring someone new into that business with ownership still in question. What I do know is Falvey never appeared to have a clear plan and he did not value younger players. So to me a rebuild was more of a retool.

Is Connor Prielipp's Rotation Spot in Jeopardy?
HarmonK03 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Until the last couple of weeks, Shelton has actually done a fairly good job with the bullpen especially considering what he had to work with. Planning for innings never works, you have to adapt to the game as it goes. -

Piggybacking doesn't work, either let him start and give him a short leash if necessary or move him to the bullpen. -

What rebuild were we in, he traded expiring contracts and relievers with a year and a half of control at the deadline last year. Varland was the exception. But Falvey has always treated relievers as fungible and traded them away a year and a half before free agency starting with Pressley. He tendered Larnach in November. Those are not signs of a rebuild. Falvey has never had a clear plan for this organization and we don't know what his plans were last year either. And we don't know the conversations between him and Tom P.

Jackson is a backup at best, let's not get excited about him, no one even claimed him when he was available.

They hit them where they weren't, that inning was all on Kremer. -

Every other club would have deferred the same way. I am just as frustrated with the back and forth. But Buxton is our star player regardless of how many games he plays both on talent and contract. There is a pecking order in baseball just like any industry and the top guys get more consideration than the guys at the bottom. Byron is trying to play because he wants to help the team, which is admirable. This is where Shelton needs to step in and say it's not helping when we can't count you on a regular basis. -
Pohlad wanted to split the Baseball operations and business operations like it has always been done with the Twins and most teams in baseball. Falvey took over the business operations when St. Peter stepped down, now I don't know what he was told at the time but I would have assumed it was an interim step since they were for sale. And any owner would probably bring in their own business operations person right away. But Falvey didn't agree with the splitting of the duties and left. As for a rebuild, he traded players that were on expiring contracts and relievers that had a year and a half of control left, which he has typically done with relievers starting with Ryan Pressley. Falvey has never showed signs of a plan, so the rebuild thoughts are a TD narrative that knows for sure what the plan was.

I agree and I have been a big supporter as well. It stinks when you see games like Monday and you think maybe he turned the corner and then Tuesday happened. He is going to get more slack than most players and that is the way of the world. But it's past time to shut it down. -

I am not a big Bell fan, but right now he is hitting, so do you sit him. I wouldn't play him in the field, he makes Keaschall look like a gold glover. -

Zoll said today offseason surgery is definitely a possibility. -
Until I read the quote from Zoll, the reporting hadn't mentioned that he might need surgery. You can't just put someone on the IL. But now Zoll is saying he may need surgery, so with that new information I say push him to get the surgery done and shut it down for the season.

Pohlad made a business decision that he thought by pretending to be contenders it would bring in fans. Zoll then acted accordingly. It was not a good decision but Zoll is a marshmallow, Get a real leader that can present a better plan to Tom P. They had a trade in place for Larnach, and if I recall it was the Astros owner not the Twins owner vetoing the trade. So I am not sure that you say they were never going to replace Larnach. Not sure why they didn't make a deal with another team.

Get the surgery done if it's needed and do it next week. Shut him down for the season. -
Other than a couple of teams every team is trying to maximize profit, they don't have an open checkbook. If a new executive comes in and thinks he is going to have a $200m budget under the current rules, he is a fool and shouldn't take the job. Other teams that are not at the top of the money chain have gotten top executives, Cle, Mil and TB for a few examples. This is why I said very clearly what I want from Tom P. But it is not all about money, it is about player development, roster decisions, i.e. not carrying the Grays and Jacksons of the world except in emergency, making smart personnel decisions. But most of all have a plan.

Well Jackson is on the roster, his position is unknown since we never see him play. I am wondering if the beat writers will stop carrying water for Shelton and push him on why Jackson is here. Hayes brought up the excuse again that they can now DH Jeffers with him on the roster. Yet in two games in the last week we have seen the opposing team use their second catcher as a DH without a third catcher. Ask him why opposing teams can do it but we can't. I would maybe get it if he was a top prospect but he is a journeyman catcher with a below .200 career batting average. -

They will not do anything before Monday is my guess, he is going to get treatment all weekend and than they will see how he is feeling. Not what I want, but this has been how they have always operated. This is another reason that Jackson should not be on this roster. -

This is the problem they have, he is definitely not 100% but who knows what percentage he is. Yes I want him on the IL, but from my understanding they haven't done an MRI or other tests so there is no new injury. So if you are going to put him on the IL he is going to need to agree to it. He is a competitor and wants to help the team, Shelton needs to have a conversation that this isn't helping, him being in and out of the lineup. The only silver lining is that we now have an above average CF to replace him. -

I have been saying since Wednesday they were not going to put Buxton on the IL. This is the same plan they keep running, let him get treatment for however many days and if it doesn't respond then they might IL him. Otherwise they keep playing down a player. -
This team badly needs new and competent leadership to lead the baseball operations. That is where I am holding Tom P. accountable, hire someone with experience and get out of their way. Let them present a plan and what resources are needed, if they are reasonable approve it. Whatever plans Falvey has had are a mystery to the fans and that is a problem. You need to be able sell what you are trying to accomplish and that can be done without giving details, a good leader knows how to do this. And this is something Falvey was not and Zoll is even worse.

Pohlad needs to move on from Zoll today and bring in a real baseball executive to lead this team. Let them come up with a plan and help sell that plan to the fans. -

Great, another half measure from this team. There is no reason to keep carrying Jackson.
