  1. Kubel has to be done and Parmelee is on his last legs now.
  2. I swear this is ridiculous. Santana has to be a better LF option than Willingham.
  3. I do really like the first three picks, and it will be very good if Cederoth becomes a starter. Curtiss is another good pick. Cutura and Murphy might be as well.
  4. When I ever mention the slowness of movement in the Twins system, the root of it is often in this tendency to Rookie ball almost everyone. I don't really like that so much for college players. Get college players to Cedar Rapids pronto!
  5. One word of caution about the general pessimism: if the players drafted in 2012 weren't battling injuries left and right (Chargois, Bard, Z. Jones) we might be less hateful of this year's draft at the moment. Tyler Duffey and Mason Melotakis might still stick as starters (not sure if Melotakis will move back there or not).
  6. 5 or 6 good picks here. Still a bit weird, though.
  7. Santana playing CF should mean that he can play LF, at least better than Willingham. That was a ridiculous lineup he put out there tonight. Kubel's involvement was atrocious. What was the "career line" before tonight's game?
  8. Aside: check out Gardy's masterpiece of a lineup tonight. OMG. OMG.
  9. I like the academics for Curtiss at least. And he is the one who might truly be able to start. The rest . . . not likely.
  10. Trading Willingham, Escobar/Santana, and Fien could bring back very solid returns. Duensing, Burton, Parmelee, and Swarzak might have some mid-tier prospect returns (still top 500-1000 overall).
  11. And Slegers is debatable. I can see him getting to the big leagues as a reliever and being very good. But as a starter, I don't think it will last past Fort Myers.
  12. The dichotomy between winning now and playing prospects is false, generally, though Willingham, Fien, and Duensing are likely going to win more games than their replacements (false for Swarzak, Correia and Burton). Anyway, in the next 8 weeks, the Twins can work to trade these six guys plus, perhaps, Escobar or Santana. Willingham, Correia, and Burton are aging, and Swarzak is limited, but goodish. The Twins are headed into years of drafts that aren't so elite like this one. Adding some minor league depth to continue the system's promise is smart. This team could win 81, I suppose. But that can't mean that it doesn't build for the future in the remaining ways that it can.
  13. Romero, Thorpe, and Stewart are going to be legitimate major league pitchers, with Romero being a reliever and Thorpe and Stewart being starters. Calling it now. Eades and Mildren won't get past AA.
  14. .709 OPS now, after a .708 OPS at FTM last year. Still with more walks than strikeouts. Iso discipline and power up. I would like to see him at SS in AA again.
  15. I can't really figure out why they don't try him in CF, given everything that is going on!
  16. It doesn't seem to difficult to build an appropriate lineup right now. Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Willingham (for now) LF Arcia RF Pinto DH/C Plouffe 3B Suzuki C/DH Escobar SS Hicks CF Send Santana to SS in Rochester. Release Kubel. Fuld returns soon and call up Romero Parmelee (lefty) Fuld (lefty) Romero (righty) Nunez (righty) as the bench This is not, at all, difficult for a manager to see.
  17. I agree completely with your sentiment here.
  18. That's a good shorter list. Clearly not a lot is going to be done, but some things will need to be done. One thing I was doing was trying to then fill the lower level with guys after losing players due to promotion.
  19. Ortiz has been promoted to AAA.
  20. Also, 15 of these players were just listed in the first 3 parts of your minor league top players for May!
  21. Romero's addition doesn't come at Plouffe's expense, but would be to replace Kubel on the roster. Anyway, something's got to give since the draft is coming and also some ESTers are likely not going to stick around in E-Town for long before moving up.
  22. I was looking at statistics, not age, Seth. I should have noted Williams and Michael's injuries, but it still applies. Boyd has now thrown 130 innings for Cedar Rapids and is finding a niche as a reliever. Pushing him as a reliever one level soon doesn't seem to irrational. Ivory Thomas is really strange. His walk rate is astounding. I realize he hasn't hit anything, but his isolated discipline is .283! Anyway, I would be curious to see if that continues after a move. I wouldn't be all that serious about promoting him given the lack of hitting. Really strange statistics there.
  23. Here are some possible promotions throughout the minor league system. This is not meant as an actual prediction or plan, but I am simply laying out the possibilities. From Cedar Rapids to Fort Myers: J.D. Williams (OF) Jason Kanzler (CF) Mitch Garver (C, 1B) Chad Christensen (OF, 1B) Ivory Thomas (OF) Kohl Stewart (RHS) Todd Van Steensel (RHR) Hudson Boyd (RHR) Jared Wilson (RHR) (release John Murphy) From Fort Myers to New Britain: Levi Michael (2B/SS) Jorge Polanco (2B/SS) Dalton Hicks (1B) Adam Walker (RF) Jose Berrios (RHS) Jason Wheeler (LHS) Matt Tomshaw (LHP) Tyler Jones (RHR) Madison Boer (RHR) Alex Wimmers (RHS) From New Britain to Rochester: Danny Ortiz (OF) Kennys Vargas (1B) Reynaldo Rodriguez (1B/OF) Sean Gilmartin (LHS) Cole Johnson (RHR) Lester Oliveros (RHR) (Release Tony Thomas and Brad Boyer) From Rochester to the Twins: Deibinson Romero (3B) Trevor May (RHS) A.J. Achter (RHR) Deolis Guerra (RHR) Michael Tonkin (RHR) (Release Chris Rahl, Brad Nelson, Scott Diamond, and Brooks Raley from Rochester) (Trade/demote/release Kevin Correia, Jared Burton, Jason Kubel, etc.)
  24. And of course if the Twins were willing to pay a significant portion of that remaining 4 million, they would dramatically increase the trade value for Correia.
