  1. Again, laughter ensues here. A Mauer article gets them out of the woodwork every time. Every time.
  2. This discussion makes me laugh. Joe Mauer will be in the Hall of Fame.
  3. Also, it will be interesting what they do with Kepler and Polanco, if they keep everybody else around. Kepler and Polanco are good players who would *really* fill the roster with quality if the team is in contention for the playoffs. Another question, at what point might Polanco give up at SS and try to add 3B as another defensive option for him? (not saying that he can't be a starting SS, just that it is possible, and then he certainly should be thinking about being a true IF utility player until a 2B gig opens up somewhere.
  4. Somewhere Terry Ryan, I believe, mentioned Kepler needing to hit breaking balls better in the minors. there is no way he is starting 2016 with the Twins. Still can't get my head around not trading Plouffe. It's not rational.
  5. Nunez and Fien coming back is funny as hell. Like, what?
  6. Starts: Dozier Mauer Sano Plouffe Rosario Park Murphy Escobar Buxton Ends (when this starts, I don't know): Buxton Mauer Sano Park Rosario Dozier Plouffe Murphy Escobar
  7. Christ, why don't they just trade May then?
  8. One might think that one starter/one reliever between May/Milone is a wickedly false dichotomy.
  9. I am not discounting him, I would just like to see him traded.
  10. The Sickels article, again: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/9/28/9409909/unsubstantiated-prediction-trevor-may-will-be-an-all-star-starter
  11. Santana Gibson Hughes May Duffey Berrios at the ready (TR already declared that he still has stuff to work on) Rogers at the ready (unless they make a determination about him in March as a RP) I don't care what happens to Nolasco, though maybe he gains a few ticks in the bullpen. And I am saying this for the 73rd time: trade Milone. It isn't clear what is at all difficult about comprehending this.
  12. Again, it isn't clear that seeing this in a positive light is all that rational. There are ways to fix the bullpen that don't involve removing the guy who is undoubtedly one your best three STARTING pitchers from the rotation. Like . . . that's a comically and tragically dumb thing to do.
  13. Thanks for this excellent article, Seth. I am still a fan of elite defense and I do think Vielma will make it on the defense alone. His 2015 numbers offensively are actually encouraging. I wondered earlier this year about the Twins potentially looking to Vielma out of the gates in 2017. He's one level ahead of Gordon. I have to wonder how that will all play out down the road.
  14. I don't think Rosario is going to fall at all from last season. He is a guy that should get a little better each of the next few seasons. Hicks being traded away was a mistake, though.
  15. I wondering about the relevance of this comment? If the Twins didn't trade away one of their OF to fill the catcher spot, they could still have signed a catcher by this point.
  16. The various defenses offered for this trade still remain inadequate.
  17. A team with a questionable bullpen should not risk losing a good MR type (right now, almost) because of Pat Dean, Eduardo Nunez, and not already dealing Tommy Milone.
  18. I kinda have to laugh at the notion that this 40-man roster is so loaded to prevent protecting Jones and Michael (Nunez, Dean, Fien, and Milone are all pretty dubious). Milone not for talent reasons, but for trade reasons.
  19. Sounds like it, unless they plan on starting a Shane Robinson type instead of Arcia. That's pretty atrocious, in my view. Trade Plouffe now because that ship is about to sail. He is declining. Sano should stay at 3B/DH. End of story. Rosario-Buxton-Arcia in the OF. I prefer trying to see Arcia in full instead of messing up the defensive alignment because of some infatuation with Plouffe. And there is a chain-effect result involving Kepler, Walker, Polanco, etc.
  20. Yeah, at this point I would roll out with Buxton (CF)-Mauer (1B)-Sano (3B)-Arcia (RF)-Dozier (2B)-Rosario (LF)-Park-(DH)-Murphy/Suzuki ©-Esocbar (SS) With Suzuki/Murphy, Santana, Benson (YEAH!!!), and, uh, Nunez on the bench. Trade Plouffe. For the love of God. I cannot accept an Arcia-Rosario-Sano OF. That seems crazy to me. I certainly don't want a "giving up" approach to Arcia because this would amount to a potentially bad OF defense as constructed. Plouffe should go for a LH bat and a good MR, plus some lottery pick. Or three lottery picks.
  21. Joe Patrick Benson returns to the Twins and becomes the 4th OF! I pretty desperately hope that the starting OF is Rosario-Buxton-Arcia out of the gate. Kepler is the next guy to come up if anything goes wrong with any of them. If he does well for a couple months and the three above him are also doing well, *then* I would call him up and have him be a 4th OF. I think he needs to see more breaking balls before then playing a limited role with the Twins.
  22. Byron Buxton will win the award in 2016.
  23. In Rochester, Achter sets up for Meyer. I think pushing Meyer into that role might be good for him.
  24. I agree about Thornton, but absent *any* signing: Pressly, Darnell, Graham, O'Rourke, Tonkin, Jepsen, Perkins I still think O'Rourke can be a highly effective LOOGY at 35ish innings. Darnell might really excel as MR guy. Graham or Pressly will be best served in long relief. Not going to lie, though . . . I have doubts about Jepsen.
  25. That is odd. One would think that such a thing wouldn't change, given the best interest of the actual MLB team. But do you maybe smell something different here, Seth? I think Rogers can be successful as a starter, and most of 2015 demonstrated that. I wonder if there is something brewing trade-wise from the current rotation (Gibson, namely). Berrios and Rogers, then, would be the backup plan for Hughes-Santana-Nolasco-May-Duffey (Milone coming back seems unlikely to me).
