  1. Well that likely settles it. 75-80 million it is. Kevin Correia is a bad pitcher. He is Nick Blackburn pre-2012, but could clearly turn into Blackburn 2012 in 2013. The K rate fell of a cliff. He's a 5th starter and likely will bring the same value Deduno, DeVries, or Hendriks would for 10 times the cost.
  2. "Proven big league pitcher" means what? Pitches to contact. Yes and that isn't good. Inning eater? How so. He had 171 last year and 198 in 2009, but the IP dropped in the middle two years, mostly due to the fact that he sucks.
  3. They might as well just let Blackburn pitch instead of adding another Blackburn for the same goddamn money that Blackburn is making.
  4. This is a complete and utter waste of 10 million dollars. Good god.
  5. Signing Saunders to a three-year deal would kill me.
  6. I don't think ST is going to matter in terms of statistical performance unless there is some wild difference between one and the other two. If Hicks looks like he can handle the role, I think it will be his job. From many Twins fans writing him off before 2012 to leading off and playing CF in 2013? I would love that on principle!
  7. I doubt they are going to worry about his arbitration clock. Benson still could end up being a better play, but after last year's mess, he needs to right the ship in AAA.
  8. Nice interview. Beloit is going to have a loaded OF with Kepler-Buxton-Walker. Wow.
  9. I agree completely. There are some doubters out there, however, so maybe a more extended case is necessary.
  10. Sorry but: Diamond Marcum Worley Hendriks Deduno/DeVries/Gibson eventually is a better rotation than adding in two of these guys anywhere.
  11. I don't think Marcum is going to cost much more than Pavano's contract plus "inflation" (inflation works a bit differently within the baseball world). John Lannan is not good. Career 1.39 K/BB rate and it is getting worse. And that's not due to be a wild fireballer. His k rate is 4.7 for his career. He's Nick Blackburn (pre 2012) with bad control. He's given up more hits than innings pitched. Etc. etc. There is no reason to sign this guy for even a minimum deal, much less multiple millions of dollars. Throw Hendriks out there instead. Correia is almost as bad. Myers is declining and may not be able to start. Hopefully the domestic violence has stopped. Saunders COULD perform well. I just wouldn't trust it though.
  12. The Royals are just a mess out there. Pretty surprised that they would do this.
  13. I am going to dig around here and come up with a 25 man roster of the worst players that people are ok with the Twins having for 2013. It should be fun. Chone Figgins is at the bottom for sure. I don't know if John Lannan or Drew Butera is next. I have a feeling that Dee Gordon isn't even the 4th worst.
  14. That's pretty hard. I went with Worley because he is a year younger than Diamond and five years pushes these guys to 30+, and because Gibson is going to get a late start this year. If Gibson were Ok-ed for 175+ innings this year, I would have voted for him.
  15. Exactly, and Hicks has certain skills like plate discipline that helps out quite a bit. We are talking about a BB/K ratio for Hunter of 2/5 and for Hicks 3/4 in the minors. That means something for a team needing help at the top of the lineup.
  16. Well if they don't spend it then that means they will lower ticket prices . . . oh wait, no. Greedy billionaires swindle the public into paying for a stadium and then defund the team for two years in a row? Are they REALLY going to do that?
  17. The main issue for me is that Blackburn's $5.5 million is coming off the books after 2013 and Morneau's $14 million is too. I am not sure about what will happen with Jamey Carroll, but that 3.75 should be gone as well. THAT ALONE almost meets the amount they would spend for 2014 on Jackson and Marcum in the second year of their contracts. The Twins are going to live off of cheap players for many years through what is now a great farm system again.
  18. A top 10 prospect (and still 5ish if he stays at 2B) and an excellent lefty specialist for a chance that Capuano is good enough to be a 4th starter and someone whose OPS dropped from .686 in 2011 to .561? No. Gordon is almost as terrible as Chone Figgins.
  19. I would NEVER trade Rosario and Duensing for Capuano and Gordon. Some two of Swarzak, Burnett, Bigley, Watts, etc. for Capuano alone. Gordon is someone to stay away from.
  20. I think the analogy might work differently. For instance, in my view panfish (sunfish) taste better than walleye. So that might be what the Twins are trying to do--get the smaller deal with the better taste. They shouldn't do that. One puts walleyes on the wall, not panfish.
  21. Did those in favor of any of these pitchers even bother to look up their statistics?
  22. Let me clarify, I do mean skipping in terms of starting in April the following season or at some point in the season besides September. September call-ups are a different animal than what would occur in Hicks' case.
  23. I can't think that they would want much, but I wonder if MLB-ready functional players like Swarzak, Florimon (if the Ds trade Gordon, esp), or Burnett would work. It's a salary dump for the Dodgers anyway.
  24. The only one that is interesting at all is Capuano. I wonder what more than, say, Swarzak, would be necessary for the Dodgers to bite. Capuano would not be a terrible $6 million investment and there is a mutual option or $1 million buyout. Obviously, I would hope that comes in addition to Jackson or Marcum (one has to think Sanchez to the Rangers, right?). The dominoes are probably Greinke (done), Sanchez, Lohse, Dempster, Jackson and Marcum. Texas, Boston, and Milwaukee will seem to get the first three, respectively.
  25. Agreed. 3 yrs for Jackson, 4 for Sanchez - which won't happen. Sanchez will get at least five years. I think you might be able to get Jackson for four, though. And maybe Marcum for three. I'd rather have any if them than Dempster. Have we heard any details about anything with Jackson? I wonder if there are 4-year deals on the table for him. I am also wondering that, if not, he might be like Dempster and jump at the one extra year if offered by somebody.
