  1. Weird attitude here. If healthy, Oliveros projects as a good to very good setup man. Burton is no longer such a guy.
  2. The Twins should, ideally, clear out no less than 25% of the 40-man roster. Oliveros being added is no biggie in such a situation. I would hope that the Twins see his potential and wisely move the $4 million between Burton and Swarzak away with such viable replacements as Tonkin and either Watts or Oliveros.
  3. And if it isn't clear that such aging veterans at the end of their contracts aren't in need of moving BEFORE 2014, then I feel sorry for you. The Twins must get something for these guys and yet must also play younger players for the future. You know, this is to establish what is needed going forward instead of filling the roster with dead ends.
  4. This tread has nothing to do with debating whether or not these aging has-been players should NOT be traded. It is about them BEING TRADED in the offseason. Now here are the parameters: 1. No sane NL team would want these two players, so we are restricting this search to the AL 2. These guys will be traded separately and with at most some middling prospect like Zach Jones, Tyler Duffey, or DJ Baxendale 3. The return must be a pitcher for each. 4. Said pitcher must be under 26 by April 1, 2014. 5. Said pitcher must have a K/9 of 8.0 at least in EITHER or last season OR his career. I am excited to see who we can dig up. I am not counting on the Twins doing this because it is a woefully mismanaged organization, but this is for fun.
  5. Also, why is any old veteran on the horizon at all?
  6. This guy has come out AGAINST the Twins and Twins players. And there are some who want him back??? This is totally insane. Torii hates this organization and the "clubhouse" aspect is always overrated garbage. Again, he hates the Twins. Coming back here? No. For good reasons from the Twins.
  7. Well, Fien or the return of Burton could spice it up. The Reds could be interested in prospects though, Plouffe and Deduno wouldn't qualify there. Certainly, Willingham and Doumit . . . uh, a team in the NL would have to be rather dumb to trade for those two . . .
  8. Hahaha. No, I know since he was another player (along with, I am not kidding, Phil Hughes, Alex Gordon, Delmon Young, and Chris Young (player)) that I was all kung-ho and proud about drafting in my fantasy league back in that era. Oh my GODDDDDD. But that ship has been righted these past two seasons. I am not strongly serious about it, but wondering what it would take.
  9. Yeah, I actually read the article and realized that a 5th starter included wouldn't matter. What about Santana, Harrison, and Plouffe?
  10. My thinking was that Bailey is going to be damn good for the next four years. And Stewart won't even be up yet. Oh well. Plouffe, Deduno, and Santana?
  11. Oops.
  12. Kohl Stewart won't be starting with the Twins until 2017 at the earliest. Maybe he gets a shot for the Reds at the end of 2015, likely 2016. I would trade Stewart, Plouffe, and Deduno right now for Bailey, with the expectation that the Twins are going to pay Bailey.
  13. Kohl Stewart and Trevor Plouffe for Homer Bailey?
  14. They reason I say it is unfortunate is because, yes, I would rather go six years with someone who could really be an ace, then to go three years for the same money on guys who will *then be gone* from the staff when 2017 gets here (unless signing another deal meaning more money etc.). Those are plans 1. and 1a. in my view though. And it is possible to trade one, two, or three of those guys at some point in the contract. I am sold on Tanaka though. It took awhile.
  15. If I were the Twins, I would certainly protect Beresford and Danny Ortiz, but here is a list of other players off the top of my head (some mentioned before, some not): Angel Morales Tom Stuifbergen Jose Gonzalez Nate Hanson Mike Kvasnicka (it's Kvasnicka, isn't it Seth?)
  16. Oh, believe me, Jeremy's page has been central to this!
  17. Oliveros is still young and has a good MiLB track record. I am not sure what 23 MLB innings says about anyone.
  18. If it isn't Roberts, it should have been Beresford (!!!!), but whatever.
  19. Has Nate Roberts been eliminated from contention here? Reynaldo Rodriguez, Nate Hanson, Manuel Soliman, Ryan O'Rourke are other players in the system eligible this year and who have some semblance of talent.
  20. Are Richardson or Reynaldo Rodriguez involved here? I would hope not. I cannot imagine anyone else over Beresford.
  21. I am for adding exactly 0 aging veterans. Hochevar would be a good third FA pitching signing.
  22. So no Salcedo. Good god, has his name been mentioned in this thread? I cannot think of who on earth else it could be.
  23. Same with Salcedo? Did Goulik just get it!?
  24. I just have a very hard time believing that the Twins aren't going to protect Wimmers, given where he was drafted, and the potential there if healthy. And personally I would trade Doumit for some pitcher, so in that case Rohlfing would make sense as an add. Otherwise, I don't see it happening.
  25. In fact, Seth, my assumption that Beresford HAD to be one of them kept me in mess-up land for a few pages!
