  1. You KNOW that this is going to happen, man. It always does and it always infuriates. Fill-in roster nonsense again and again and again.
  2. Your reasoning is exactly why I think he would want a two-year deal, since he will still be under 30 when that contract would be gone and he the two years just means more guaranteed money. The Twins shouldn't look at one-year deals at all unless there is a true reclamation project like Johnson.
  3. The full interview just makes one actually more depressed, by the way.
  4. Kepler will be added to the 40-man so they have to get that ball rolling. He will start in Fort Myers.
  5. Sort of an anti-climatic AFL season so far given the Buxton injury, but I thought this would be a good place to just jabber about day-to-day stuff happening there. Odd that more people aren't talking about it . . . . Anyway: Eddie Rosario and Alex Meyer are impressive. Max Kepler is doing ok in a league that is advanced for him. Trevor May is also ok. A.J. Achter is good. Zach Jones is struggling. Also, NICK WITTGREN, that guy who is from Lafayette, IN, went to Purdue, and who I raved about and hyped his draft chances in earlier rounds . . . is just dominating. He has been completely dominant for two years and it is continuing in the AFL. 11 Ks in 5 1/3 innings. The Twins drafted L.J. Mazzilli instead . . .
  6. 4-5 year deals are not the standard for pitchers.
  7. By the way, it's early this year. It was always after the WS was over before. I mean the WS is over, essentially, anyway.
  8. Well we'll just have to pressure him to provide a blueprint. The other three should provide enough fodder for discussion. Let's just ship Eddie Rosario off . . . . Anyway, am I the only one who has read this damn thing?
  9. I have the great fear that all catchers below Pinto are going to disappoint.
  10. Oh well.
  11. The issue isn't that Mauer is better or worse as a hitter depending on the position he plays. The point is that catching wears him down, reducing his playing time. Maybe nuance is needed in this discussion? (haha, imagine that . . .) The issue comes down to 600+ plate appearances as a 1B (no need to spend much time DHing, then) vs. risking not even getting 500 plate appearances if he is the primary catcher. Of course the concussion issue adds the total disaster scenario. And that isn't good. But the issue comes down to weighing the position vs. the number of likely plate appearances. I am comfortable with Josmil Pinto and Chris Herrmann.
  12. One comment: where the hell is John's blueprint? Has Gleeman infected him with a fear of commitment to putting out any plan . . . . ?????
  13. Yes it would create a lot of discussion. It's quite good. Eric Fryer making a strong impression . . . . what on earth is happening here? There is NO defense for mentioning Eric Fryer. He had 13 at bats. And he is terrible as a major leaguer. I like Albers. I think it is almost completely satirical, however, for a GM to mention Albers and especially Fryer.
  14. Pedro Florimon's grade is a C? What? An average WAR between BR and FG as 1.7 and this poor guy gets a C?? What?
  15. Ultimately some strange concerns. It reminds me of . . . the Vikings cycling through bad QBs . . . three bad ones ain't enough! Buy Jimenez or Santana and Hughes. Stop complaining about sucking.
  16. Navaretto and Atherton confuse me completely. Like . . . .completely.
  17. Apparently there are only 12 position players.
  18. "Bell rung"? That is still the term used to refer to BRAIN INJURIES?
  19. To clarify: I don't understand this TR interview as anything other than a satire. The rest of the handbook is spot on. I stopped working tonight to look it over.
  20. Dear God. Pinto gets mentioned. And then . . . HE MENTIONS "Fryer" as a positive. So, I have to wonder. Why is there this unabashed love for this "straight shooter" here? My God. To mention ERIC FRYER should be a fireable offense. I am SORRY for saying that. The status quo is acceptable to the old TwinsCentric crew, but I want to be given a further justification of that given a comment by Terry Ryan about . . . Eric Fryer. Are you kidding me. Is this handbook from The Onion?
  21. Quick overview and this is clearly the best one ever. I did want to start a thread on the overall picture presented here though. Constructive compliments and complaints here, at least for now.
  22. Look, I like Andrew Albers. I advocated for him to be Kyle Gibson's personal reliever in AAA, but that TR mentions him FIRST as a positive. It is literally the first name he mentions. Oh my god.
  23. The Lincecum prediction of 4/64 and his signing at 2/35 is informative. Sorry. Maybe that prediction was exaggerated, but still. Lincecum was definitely right below the Tanaka-Garza-E. Santana-Jimenez line. Hughes is with Arroyo and others just below that. I would not necessarily count on Phil Hughes wanting a 4-year deal. I would expect that he might prefer a 2-year deal because he could see it as a make good contract and still be 29 (as opposed to 31). So he would take more money per year for two years, yet still less than Lincy. Think about it. A one-year deal could make it all the worse if he has another semi-par year. A two-year deal gives him more assurance and gives him a second year to improve. A four-year deal right now for $50 million (at most) could preclude him from a good contract as a 31-year old.
  24. The extra TV money is much more likely to drive up yearly salary, not the number of years. See Lincecum.
  25. The Lincecum prediction was 4 years and $64 million. It ended up being 2 years and $35 million. I guess I don't understand quite the discrepancy in the those two predictions (Hughes and Lincecum), but I certainly understand the discrepancy between the prediction and the actual. The Hughes prediction is 3 years and $30 million. I cannot imagine much less, certainly, unless Hughes is willing to go 2 years and $24 million or so. He might be willing to do that given his age, hoping for a bigger payday when he is still under 30 (but wanting more stability and money than just a one-year deal). I do like incentive-laden deals. Maybe a 2/24 base with $2 million incentives (X innings with under 4 ERA) each year. Or 3/33 and the same to max at 3/39.
