  1. Thanks for that. It's pretty clear to me.
  2. I predict the White Sox win this then. Clearly. Konerko is going to be gone, Napoli and Ortiz are in Boston, and who wants to really play in Houston for that team?
  3. The Yankees are not going to care about the posting bid. So they will win by posting $50 or whatever million. They do care about salary and he is fairly cheap if in the 5-6 years and $55-66 million range.
  4. Same way with Doumit. This organization is a sucker for guys who declare there love for the team even though they aren't any good as baseball players.
  5. It isn't clear how one can favor Pelfrey over Correia. Deduno also pitched . . . And 2014 and 2015 there are going to be better guys to trot out there from within the system. I have more faith, even, in Logan Darnell than Mike Pelfrey. And certainly so at 1/10th the cost.
  6. The great paradox is that the best way for the Twins to land one good FA is to land two or three of them . . .
  7. Well the burns on her vagjayjay (how on earth do you spell this?) weren't not psychological. The documentary is pretty clear about "frivolous" lawsuits in general and how corporations work hard to discredit, limit, silence, etc. all potential lawsuits through various means. It's worth watching.
  8. And yes this is definitely flavoring my perspective too. I saw a disproportionate number of Pelfrey starts vs. the other starters this year due to something (day games, Monday night games, etc. as in agreement with my mlbtv time vs. work). It's just bad to watch 90+ pitches in five innings every time and severe deliberation between pitches on top of it.
  9. Mike Pelfrey's ERA+ stats (from BR) in seasons where he threw more than 150 innings: 2008: 113 (the year of promise) 2009: 81 (the year of collapse) 2010: 107 (the year of resurgence, aka the last good year) 2011: 78 (collapse) 2013: 78 (repetition of badness, except in the eyes of some in the Twins organization and some Twins fans) Keep the GM, keep the manager, keep the pitching coach . . . might as well also keep all of the aging below average pitchers as well! Status quo worship.
  10. What?????? Ok, another nominee for best post on TD ever.
  11. (No reply to this is even possible)
  12. You're right. Definitely. That said, in Marcum's case there were such worries that I thought were exaggerated about his health and I was willing to just ignore them. Now, he could very well be good again going forward.
  13. And he's not a top prospect. I actually said that above. But I don't even like rating relievers highly anyway, hardly at all, given how fungible they are. In terms of major league value, though, I have moved away from Pedro Hernandez and Cole DeVries and towards Ibarra, Watts, and obviously Achter.
  14. And given that I refuse to just trot out another 10 "starting" pitchers who are either 4-5 starters or true AAAA pitchers, I prefer Ibarra on the 40-man over Pedro Hernandez. Part of this has to do with the fact that the Twins may be able to turn over a few bullpen guys like Burton, Fien, and Duensing at this year's deadline, and it's nice to have capable arms ready to replace. In such a scenario, Thielbar could move to setup and Ibarra to LOOGY.
  15. 2013 was a very good year for him. His best. What I mean is that in Rochester, his K rate dropped and his BB rate went up a bit. Rochester: 6.9/4.4, career: 7.8/3.9. If his 2013 H/9 numbers are not an anomaly and he maintains something similar, a return to his 7.8/3.9 K/BB makes him a more ideal candidate for adding to the 40-man and being a potential contributor at the end of next season.
  16. I recently watched the documentary "Hot Coffee" on Netflix and was taken quite aback. The documentary is primarily about "frivolous" lawsuits in general, but in particular it is about the titled-inspired famous McDonald's coffee case. 1. I do recommend it for good viewing, but more importantly, 2. It was a lesson for me as someone who just up until last year used that case (without actually knowing anything about it beyond what I always heard from mainstream media and popular culture) as an example of people trying to seize an opportunity to blame someone else for their own ignorance and/or stupidity. I *actually* used this as an example of Nietzsche's concept of "ressentiment" (resentment) and the need to blame others for one's own problems . . . . Well how terribly wrong I was in using it. That McDonald's case was so misconstrued for the general public that it is disgusting. Imagine this: old lady gets coffee from McDonalds, places it between her knees to adjust the lid and the thing tips over . . . not out onto the floor of the car, but in her "region." And yet McDonald's coffee is still too damn hot to drink for about 20 minutes to this day.
  17. Since you're still in good humor I take it that she got burned and not you?
  18. I do agree with spycake about that scrolling issue. Other than that it is just great.
  19. A lot of much ado about nothing regarding TP's "deception" here. Maybe if Correia was the 2nd best pitcher and Pelfrey the 3rd best pitcher signed by the Twins last season, there could have been actual hope in those two. Correia performed well for a 4-5 starter. Pelfrey is not good (I wonder how many times I have typed this at TD?).
  20. For the record, I would still be happy with Edwin Jackson even in the unlikely scenario that his numbers in Wrigley wouldn't have changed inside TF. I still bet that he is better than Correia next year and certainly better than Pelfrey. And he would be around into the "new era" that is coming someday. I'll eat crow about Shaun Marcum, though.
  21. Yep. It wasn't yours, Puck, it wasn't yours . . .
  22. These predictions seem frighteningly likely to play out. That's pretty accurate. And . . . I just can't believe any of it.
  23. Also, Ibarra somewhat followed the Aaron Hicks path . . . struggles first year after promotion, repeats, does well.
  24. I see 2014 as a chance for Ibarra to get to his career numbers and have a good overall season in AAA, earning a September callup. There probably should be a distinction between: true prospects minor leaguers who have something to contribute, potentially, in MLB minor leaguers who don't have something to contribut, potentially, in MLB There is some overlap in between those first two groups in terms of who actually gets to the big leagues. Ibarra is more likely to get a cup of coffee than at least one top 20 prospect in the Twins system, for instance.
  25. By the way, Kepler definitely holding his own in the AFL.
