  1. Jason Benetti on the HBP: “Just another nick in the Wallner.”
  2. I was okay with the send. Colas’ arm is strong, but erratic, and it was with the bottom of the order coming up. Colas won that time.
  3. Thanks. I was going from memory. Not a good thing at my age.
  4. That’s my assumption. Feel bad for McGriff that Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux are all absent.
  5. Gotta like that Anderson, Colas and Zavala, a third of their lineup, have a combined wRC+ of 125. And by combined, I mean 54 + 35 + 36.
  6. And I’ve just switched over from MLB Network’s Hall of Fame coverage, where they just had the roll call for all the HOFers in attendance. My son and I were able to attend a year ago, seeing Tony O and Jim Kaat inducted. What a wonderful day. In attendance were Tony O, Kaat, Blyleven, Thome, Molitor and Winfield.
  7. 2) Agreed it was on Vazquez. Dugout could have also helped out by yelling to hold the ball when they saw the size of the jump. 4) Agreed on Buxton. Also saw the amount of time for him to get up after the steal. Even on the last strikeout, he had battled back well to a full count and then I think he just guessed wrong on the pitch call and was frozen. 5) When I looked at Balazovic’s minor league game logs, what stands out is very high pitch counts. He has had six games when he threw at least 70 pitches and in none of them did he get past 4.0 innings. For the season, he has averaged nearly 19 pitches per inning. I wonder if the team looked at that and said it’s not sustainable for him to be a starter. 8) And in winning last night and tonight, it pretty much puts them out of their misery. Had they come in and swept, they cut the lead to six and start to think they have a chance. I think we’ve effectively made this a two-team race.
  8. And it looks like he was very sharp again tonight. Two hits, three walks, three whiffs and no runs over six innings.
  9. It would have been a tough game to let get away, given that three of those four base runners were weak grounders that happened be in the right spot.
  10. Yeah, Gray didn’t seem his sharpest, but he got the outs he needed, including a quick fifth that got him the sixth. He also had a couple close calls that didn’t go his way and that extended some innings. Balazovic was outstanding.
  11. I hope you didn’t wait until now to chow down on those babies.
  12. A bit of drama, 5 up 3 down. Close enough.
  13. But the walk was huge. As was the steal in forcing the action.
  14. It would be nice if they’d get over that as quickly as seems to be the case with the pinkeye.
  15. I didn’t want to say it earlier, for fear of the jinx, but if there’s a team that I always feel like there’s a chance to come back on, it’s the Sox. And there’s no team that it’s more fun to do it against.
  16. You did well on the last one. Do you want to see doubling Taylor right now?
  17. He has a 3.20 ERA since the first of June. Either 1 or 2 runs in six of his last eight starts. He’s been throwing really well.
  18. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/figueed01.shtml
  19. Nice quick inning by Gray, which will get him to the sixth. Would be nice to chase Cease.
  20. First MLB player to have all five vowels in his first name? How about in his last name?
