The Italian name, Liberatore, had me thinking about Latin etymologies as well. I read an interesting tidbit the other day. Originally, Latin words often used “-tor” males and “-trix” for females. So, aviator is a male pilot and aviatrix is a female pilot. The executor is a male who carries out the instructions of a will, whereas an executrix is a female doing the same.
More recently, folks have started to use “-tor” for all adults, because “-trix” are for kids.
