  1. That's an area where I hope they didn't give a participation trophy.
  2. Yeah, I flew into Love Field, so it was pretty close. Besides, when I looked up the location I was reminded that you have to give extra credit for a restaurant that is on a street named Harry Hines Boulevard.
  3. Been reading through this while eating pulled pork from the smoker that my son made me for Christmas, and the BBQ references in the intro gives me opportunity to ask a question of the locals. I'm going to be in the Twin Cities next week on work. I see Bayport has a buffet. Is this the best BBQ in town? Where else should I be looking? Recommendations on other places also welcomed. Best place for walleye? I've never had it, but I like fish.
  4. Haven't been to any of the places on this list, so I don't know how they compare, but Mike Anderson's in Dallas was pretty incredible. Besides the phenomenal meat, they consider peach cobbler a side dish. Peach cobbler is a side dish, oh my!
  5. What was the screaming baseball's name?
  6. I don't think so. He wasn't in the Mitchell Report. I think he was considered guilty of playing in Colorado more than he was of playing with PEDs.
  7. I think it's because he was pretty nimble with the glove, particularly for his size. I remember him making some pretty impressive stretches to pick throws out of the dirt.
  8. For Kepler, I liked the "Der Schlagger" that someone came up with last year. At a 6-7, the Tonkin "Truck" reminds me of the yellow toys in the sandbox when I was growing. "Little Miggy" Sano to contrast him with the "Big Miggy" in Detroit that we hope he grows into.
  9. Excellent post. You could add Greg Bird's .104 as a 24-year-old to your list, unless 48 ABs puts him below your threshold. Plus Yan Gomes (.171) and Kurt Suzuki (.160). What those three have in common with Brett Gardner (.182) from your list is that they are killing my fantasy team's average, with some help from Neil Walker (.206), Pablo Sandoval (.213) and Stephen Piscotty (.218). Thank God for Freddie Freeman.
  10. And the guy on second usually has a bigger lead, right?
  11. Sorry, only partial credit. You're missing the exponent 2 on the hypotenuse.
  12. And I'm sure you told him where he could stick that suggestion...
  13. My comments about the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" were courtesy of my son, a sports nerd and broadcasting nerd, and thus, a sports broadcasting nerd. Regarding the Miracle on Ice, from same son. Al Michaels had only ever done one hockey game before the 1980 Olympics. However, his one game of experience was one game more than anyone else at ABC had, so he got the honors.
  14. Trivia on the Shot Heard 'Round the World. The audio you hear is actually from the radio broadcast by Russ Hodges. Games were not routinely recorded at that the time, but a Dodgers fan had his tape recorder hooked up to the radio. The game itself was the first ever to be nationally televised. On the TV mic that day was a young broadcaster named Ernie Harwell, who would, of course, go on to fame as the longtime radio voice of the Tigers. Tiger fans here in northern Indiana and nearby Michigan and northwest Ohio love Harwell just as deeply as Dodger fans love Scully. And deservedly so. Very conversational in nature. One of his regular things was to say, when a foul ball headed to the stands, "That one was caught by a fan visiting from Muskegon" (or Hillsdale, or whatever small Michigan town he thought of that day). He was known to be a wonderful gentleman.
  15. My dad used to brag all the time, "I can tell you what the score of this game is going to be before it even starts." Yeah, Dad, you've said this one before -- 0-0.
  16. What's our team batting average? Probably about .220, .221, whatever it takes.
  17. Some churches celebrate "Humor Sunday" (or "Bright Sunday/Laughter Sunday") on the week after Easter to celebrate the fast one that Jesus pulled. We have a guest preacher next Sunday, so our Holy Humor Sunday is happening the following week.
  18. Fun stuff to look through. I'm surprised Johan had only three games on the list, for example. Probably because of how few complete games he had.
  19. Cause he's now 0 for 11 in this series. I was in the midst of typing, "But I'd walk Garcia here."
  20. Combining snickerdoodles and brownies is a match made in heaven. Recipe?
  21. Sorry -- responded before seeing this one. Yes, this is the one I meant. Is it still available anywhere on Youtube?
  22. My all-time favorite was the time Thome crushed one to the flag pole in a tie game (I think). I timed a full 52 seconds of silence before he finally was able to choke out, "And we'll be back," as they went to commercial for a pitching change. I'm sure they had to get a new mute button from how hard he had to have been squeezing it.
