  1. Doesn't seem like it. Teams gave up 42 home runs to him for a 103 loss team. His power was not a threat. In fact his power was completely irrelevant. Why tire yourself out against him so that the other guys have an easier time with you? Like the lion on the kill, spend your effort not on the strongest of the herd but the weakest. This is game theory. Obviously this strategy isn't the one to have if there is suddenly more than 1 guy in the lineup who can hurt you. But this was not the case. Thus, Dozier only "repeats his HR numbers" if the Twins are still ineffectual. Dozier was 10% of the lineup. Who cares if he hits a solo shot? Focus on tricking the other 8 slots in the lineup.
  2. Is Dozier's power repeatable? Hell yes, he's a power guy. Is his 42 home runs repeatable? Doubtful. Opposing pitchers did not have to bother pitching around Dozier last year because the rest of the lineup sucked. How many of his dingers were solos? 85%? More? As a pitcher, there was no reason to fear Dozier last year because he was the only guy who was going to bite you. If Dozier hits more than around 32 home runs again it's because the rest of the Twins are still hitting like little leaguers. As a pitcher, why tire yourself out trying to challenge Dozier? Just get the at bat over with, with as few pitches as possible, and move on to the lambs in the lineup. His 1 solo home run that might come out of that won't cost the game.
  3. Walt Masterson's 16-inning shutout probably qualifies him to be the long reliever.
  4. I think 70/71 is right around where they will land. I would not take this bet.
  5. I don't disagree. All I'm saying is pump the brakes. Many people have decided in their minds that he can't do the job when there is evidence that he can.
  6. How many dingers can they hit?
  7. The Twins claim the historical records of the Senators as part of their property. The history counts.
  8. He was good at SS with the MLB club in 2014 and 2015. But as you say, "small sample size." Just let the kid play, he'll be fine.
  9. When Brent Musberger used to call NFL games, we would watch the game on TV but listen to the WCCO radio feed. Just do that if you don't like them. Gladden isn't perfect but he's not too far off from the "old timey" broadcasters which should be at least somewhat tolerable.
  10. He has 129 more games and 1200 more innings in the minors at SS than at 2B.... At some point everyone has to stop reacting to what people write and start looking things up themselves.
  11. By "reports" do you mean Keith Law? Usually when I read an idea that multiple people are convinced of being true but there is zero evidence to back up, Law has been writing about it. He is the godfather of baseball, some people will follow him anywhere. Polanco has a pretty big sample size at SS in the minors and I don't see any red flags in the data. I'll trust data over a writer getting paid to fill up space on every player in the universe any day of the week.
  12. If Polanco doesn't stick in the lineup it will be because of his bat. No reasonable person thinks he won't be able to play decent defense at SS over the long haul. Adrianza is likely competing with Santana and Escobar for the backup spot, not Polanco for the starting spot.
  13. Hopefully any infielder can handle ground balls. But sure, there's nothing wrong with this signing.
  14. Higher ratings for your players = more revenue for you.
  15. [ What the heck is "Twins Daily"? ]
  16. I guess we'll find out what's what in about 6 months. BPs metrics in general are very difficult to follow. I can't tell if they are geniuses or just nuts.
  17. If Baseruns called them a 71-win team last year and this year's team has the same problems as last year's team, wouldn't 71 wins be the reasonable projection?
  18. That's exactly what I was thinking.
  19. They like to make previous years hard to find, but someone was using their noggin and made a screenshot one year ago this week. http://imgur.com/a/IyHIJ The Twins were slated for 79 wins, which probably seemed low-but-not-too-low to most of us. They overestimated the pitching/defense and underestimated the offense. I would wager if they are wrong for 2017, they made the same mistakes. Just eyeballing, they were way off for RS and RA league wide. A lot more scoring happened last year than they projected.

  21. It doesn't quite pass the sniff test, does it?
  22. Absolutely. That's an 11/12-game swing.
  23. Reno odds came out with the O/U for the Twins at 70.5.
  24. St. Peter started as an intern. Go for it!
  25. Also, The Marlins claim $49M in annual sales, very close to the Twins.
