  1. Unfortunately the House votes to impeach, and the House has been controlled by Trump-like elements for a long time. I can't think of a scenario that gets Trump impeached, but he could surprise us.
  2. This would be a good opportunity for Trump to stand up for an American -- any American -- over Russia. It's an opportunity that he will not take.
  3. Yes. Anything that disagrees with Trump is a lie. Only Trump knows the truth.
  4. Cutting Jim Hoey Light should have been the first order of business. Now when someone inevitably name drops Jim Hoey when complaining about Twins mistakes, we now have someone worse to point them to. The quicker we forget about Hoey the quicker his face can be erased from my mind. Thanks, Pat, for lowering the bar so the Twins community can move on. Good move all around.
  5. The sample size with this one is very small. The Twins might think they see something that no one else does. He spreads the ball around when he hits and he makes good contact, even if the results aren't impressive. He needs to draw more walks to be the OBP guy that he needs to be in order to succeed. He has no power. As far as defense is concerned, he looks about average. We can be optimistic and hope that the same underling who was making these weird marginal moves under the previous regime is not still making them, and that there IS something to see with this guy.
  6. But wait, don't we hear often that the hitting is fine?
  7. The Twins could have spent this time evaluating other talent that could fill a position of need. There weren't just two options -- spending time evaluating Park or hovering around the margarita machine in the front office. A pretty good third option would be spending time evaluating pitching talent. And this third option probably should have been the first option. A logjam can also prevent the team from ever being able to figure out who can perform at a major league level. I think many of us predicted this exact thing would happen last year when Park was signed -- either Vargas or Park would get cut without being properly evaluated.
  8. Tonkin wasn't overworked. He had a good April and the rest of the year was pointless (or worse). He put up his best pitching numbers with 0 days off and worst numbers with 2-5 days off. The most telling split for Tonkin is that he pitched well against teams with a sub-.500 record and was terrible against teams with a .500 record or more. He is still young and will adjust if he deserves to be in the majors.
  9. It's interesting seeing the idea of 3 catchers batted around. Gardenhire/Ryan had 3 catchers on the roster quite often and fans were very critical of them for it.
  10. Berrios has been great in the minors but terrible in the majors. Unfortunately, I read an article recently that pointed out that Berrios has passed an MLB innings threshold for futility where few players have recovered from and became productive. And yes, there are examples of many players who dominated the minors, were top prospects in their systems, who hit this same wall. The odds are already against Berrios ever being good in the majors, so the quicker he turns it around the better.
  11. This is why they shouldn't have bothered to nitpick on the margins. Draw a line down the middle and half of them go now. The other half have a year to prove themselves.
  12. It's way too early to call Park a failure. If this team had a shortage at 1B or DH this move would not be made.
  13. "Danny Santana ... Danny Santana ... Danny Santana" This is like Clinton and the emails. It's all some of you can talk about. Guys -- Santana started 69 games in 2015 and 62 in 2016. These are inconsequential numbers. Santana isn't the problem. Whether he goes or whether he stays will not make or break this team. Molitor vowed to keep Santana out of the OF but then kept marching him out there. Seems he was overruled. If you call can buy that Sano's offense suffered due to the horror of having to play the OF, you should be able to buy into the same thing for Santana. I honestly have no opinion on whether or not Santana goes or stays. I think he is a competent middle infielder (and probably a good 3B too) who the Twins have jacked around a bit. I don't blame him for that.
  14. It really doesn't ignore that. There was no room for Park when he was signed. Vargas and Sano had already sat at the DH spot for considerable time. 3B and 1B were both manned. The Twins had big holes in the OF and P but signed a guy where they had no room for him to play.
  15. Murphy was terrible at both defense and with his bat. It's not automatic that he will start the season as the backup catcher.
  16. Park should have never been signed. Nothing against him, there just isn't room for him on this team.
  17. How many player can 1B/DH on this team? There's your answer.
  18. "How will Falvey improve the pitching" is a great question. We didn't know how he would change the pitching six months ago and we still don't know today. Am I worried Falvey/Levine won't be able to get much done to improve pitching? Not really. They had one realistic chance this year and didn't get it done, but the future will have other deals...
  19. Yet it's the Democrats who have been handing more and more power over to the fringe right year after year. Democrats carry a lot of blame for this mess. The Democrats need leadership that doesn't fold whenever a Republican lies.
  20. I'm not sure why you wouldn't. Someone ran SIERA/FIP/xFIP/ERA against all recent seasons and SIERA came up as being most accurate. FIP was nearly as bad as just using ERA. At least move to xFIP if you think SIERA has cooties, as xFIP was miles ahead of FIP.
  21. 2002 Tigers fans probably thought the same thing when the Tigers lost 106 games only to then lose 119 in 2003. The 2002 Tigers had a pitching staff that was terrible but could nonetheless wipe the floor with the 2016 Twins pitching staff. They also had a couple of young hitters expected to start performing. If I hop in my time machine I could probably find a quote by a Tigers fan saying the same thing you just said. If the 2017 Twins start off with a losing streak, I can see the balloon deflating and these young hitters and marginal (at best) pitchers playing to a worse record in 2017 than 2016. Say whatever you want about Kurt Suzuki, he was not the reason the Twins lost 103 games last year and replacing him has been the only move. The Tigers started turning things around in 2004. How did they do that? Surprise -- by signing multiple free agents.
  22. I think he did. His problem was moving beyond rebuild mode.
  23. FIP is designed for measuring intrayear performance. What you want to be using is SIERA instead of FIP to look at his career. His SIERA is not much better, mind you. In any case, most prediction systems have him falling off the map in 2017, probably due to the Twins lack of a defense and his lucky BABIP.
  24. Seems like you said this before, though. I suspect the people who did not listen before will still not listen.
  25. May happened to have a terrible start right before Santana came back. 30 pitches, 1 out, 6 runs. He picked the wrong moment to have a bad game. He was overused last year as a reliever. The Twins clearly wanted him to be the primary set up man. It's harder for me to say that's why he was injured than it is for the rest of you.
