  1. Lucroy would be 31 when he is a free agent. Do you want to hand him a 4-5 year extension in the $80M range? Mccann received 5/85 with slightly better numbers. No thanks.
  2. I would not give up 7 years of control of Berrios for 2 years of Lucroy, who is not producing this year
  3. The best thing the Twins have going for them is really talented, controllable young players. Save Buxton, all of the guys up this year have helped the Twins become contenders. So I am not moving guys like Gibson, May, Sano, Rosario, etc. I would add a late inning guy and a lefty specialist. I am confident we can get at least the lefty from within.
  4. I would argue with another 7-8th inning guy and a lefty specialist we would be neck and neck with the Royals. The hope is we can find at least one of those internally. Outside of the pen I agree, most of the young guys are playing really well as well as getting valuable experience. Guys that will be part of the Twins resurgence the next few years. So I don't see the benefit of adding veterans to take their reps.
  5. I think we trade Pelfrey and add a reliever, most likely a lefty. No way we do any big trades for a rental. Where is the guy going to play? I think we continue the trend and bring up Polanco soon for SS and we heart Suzuki too much to do anything there.
  6. His eye at the plate has been outstanding. Even his strikeouts I believe have all or almost all been on 3-2 counts.
  7. He put one four feet up the fence and another that bounced and hit the wall in deep center. His at bats have been awesome so far.
  8. The article lost me when they said May was acting as the staff ace. That would be Gibson or milone.
  9. Personally, I bet it goes there. Too many owners shelling out contracts to pitchings that get hurt.
  10. Not to mention, if everyone stays healthy in the next 1-2 weeks we will be trading someone. Nobody is taking Ervin or Nolasco. It would be silly to trade Gibson or May given their potential, youth, and team control. Hughes isn't going anywhere. So you have Pelfrey or Milone. Nothing would hurt their trade value more than demoting them to the pen or AAA while they are on the trade block.
  11. The reality is in twelve more games someone will likely be hurt and/or someone like Pelfrey will prove to be the same guy we have seen. We will have more information. .
  12. I would go 6 man two times through and rest everyone a bit.
  13. 45+ power and 50+ raw power shows me he will have average or above average power, to go along with plus speed and an above average arm. For a SS, that is a plus SS, not a utility guy. *assuming these numbers translate to reality in six years which is nowhere near a lock
  14. My point is you can't really expect much of anything within a 5 or 10 game sample. Five years from now Miguel Sano is going to be the same player regardless. Yet people will be dissecting every pitch his first few games. I would love to see a HR every game but if he does or doesn't it doesn't mean much of anything in the long run.
  15. Give me one guy like this every offseason and it works for me.
  16. If Sano put up the identical numbers as Bryant, the posters here would be talking about the 30%+ k rate and .381 BABIP and concluding he was pretty lucky and due to come back to earth. ZIPS and Steamer projected his BABIP to be .350 and .333, so you take off 10-15% from his .274 average and you have a guy that is a rookie finding his way.
  17. Completely agree Plouffe has 3B. Barring injury, that gets addressed this off-season if ever. We need to see more out of Arcia and Hicks. Promoting guys based on a few good games is not what we need. It causes this constant up and down that we have seen the last year (Vargas, Arcia, Hicks, etc.). In 29 games, Arcia has an OPS of .658 against AAA pitching. 8 hits in his last 3 games is great, but we need to see a longer period of success. Especially since we don't really have a place for him. Including his 3 hits last night, Hicks is 4 for 21 on this rehab assignment.
  18. I just hope that over the next 15-20 games, regardless of what happens we all realize that it means very little in predicting the type of major league player he will be. So after 3 games, or 8, or 12, let's just all have a little patience. He probably is not going to go 4-4 with 2 HR and a double the first game and that is okay. He will probably be nervous as hell right away. Let's also remember that he will be replacing a DH with an OPS of .642. He was ready and we are contending, so all he needs to do is beat that mark to be a worthwhile call.
  19. Time will tell if Buxton was promoted too soon. The guy has struggled out of the gate at a few levels now. What is 100% certain to me is that 1- People draw conclusions too soon 2- If he struggles the Twins will get criticized for ruining his development and hurting his confidence 3- If they waited they would get criticized for moving too slow
  20. Rochester released their 3B. Guessing he is re-united with Berrios shortly, with Buxton potentially rehabbing there.
  21. You can look at Hick's numbers in the minors and see the bust potential. He had one really good year, which was the year prior to being brought up. Hicks was never a top prospect, top guy in all of the majors. Not even close. Hicks was ranked in the top 100 because of his athleticism. Buxton is rated where he is because his freaking athleticism led to really good numbers.
  22. Yeah. I don't put any stock whatsoever in 11 games. Thru 15 games this year in AA he was hitting .190 with a total of 4 XBH.
  23. Buxton - Starting CF when healthy. Give him another 25 games and put him in AAA if he does not improve, with clear things to work on like breaking balls. Sano - Starting DH now. Ready and the best option. Polanco - Starting SS. Ready and the best option. Kepler - I would promote to AAA. You could argue he is ready, but the Twins have themselves in a pickle. Hunter, Buxton, Hicks, and Rosario. I would not introduce another guy there. Berrios - Leave in AAA right now. If he forces the Twins hand someone or two have to be traded.
  24. Yeah. I would appreciate some brutal honesty. "We believe we have players in the minors right now that would have been promoted already had it been 2011-2014, but we are at a point right now where we have more talented players than roster spots. It is a good problem to have"
  25. At the time of his promotion to the big leagues, Vargas was 23 and had an OPS of .832 in AA. He had 17 HR in 97 games. Those 97 games were his only above A ball. His OPS over his minor career is .856. He has never sniffed a top 100 prospect list. Sano is 22, has an OPS of .918 in AA. He has played 133 games above A ball (in addition to winter league). He has 15 HR in 66 games. His minors OPS is .937 and has consistently been a top 23 prospect the last four years, peaking at #4. What told Terry that Vargas was ready and Sano is not?
