  1. I think doubles and HR could get him to an OPS of .740. But I think that is his ceiling. The k's will make it tough to exceed that.
  2. The strikeouts depend on approach. Most guys dial their swing back with two strikes. He currently does not. Even if he doesn't, it is what it is. He is a great power hitter who has the rare ability to walk a ton.
  3. Addendum: Our minor league program should be 100% focused on developing major league players. So a guy like Duffey may have two pitches that work in AA or AAA and that is great, but I would rather see him tinker and get knocked around down there than have a 2.50 ERA and lead the team to a meaningless championship
  4. So we drafted a closer with only two pitches. He is in our system four years. Never a top prospect with great stuff. And we demote him to AAA after 50 innings so he can develop a third pitch. Got it.
  5. I would be thrilled with a 726 OPS. Guessing he is a 3.5 to 4 WAR player with those numbers
  6. I have a different prediction. Miguel Sano will have an incredible MLB career and never win an MVP. A few reasons, they really penalize guys that done add value defensively. Consider that Miguel Cabrera has a career 321 batting average with an OPS around 960 and he only had 2 MVP's. In addition to defense, Sano is likely going to strike out too much to hit .300. So even if he hits 45 jacks a year, a .280 average and either bad defense in RF or being a DH is going to hurt him Trout probably has another 3 years of quality defense and another 3 where everyone still thinks he provides quality defense. Not to mention guys like Correa, Bogatds, lindor, and hopefully Buxton getting it done on offense and defense.
  7. I get the first two. It is hard to call Suzuki a bust candidate, with the expectations being so low. It is also crazy to me that we are going to give at least half the reps to a guy that can't hit or throw guys out, especially with an almost complete rotation of veterans. Duffey because he is not going to be able to rely on the hook like he did last year. He probably wasn't a guy that was scouted a ton in the minors. He was never a top prospect. And I feel like Perkins because he is declining without many realizing he is
  8. I hope Carlos catches on with someone else and has a good season somewhere and I don't mean that in a stick it to the Twins sort of way. We had to give Arcia another shot.
  9. Addenda: Won't let me edit right now. Buxton has 170 total at bats above AA at 21. I am not shocked about a struggle.
  10. "Ever going to hit .260" seems extremely bearish, even though he highlights speed and defense value.
  11. You are killing the team need narrative with your facts. Please stop.
  12. May had 2 more k's per 9 than four of the five guys that will start the year in the rotation (Duffy's SSS aside) Not sure whether he uses a split finger is the right metric here.
  13. Huh? You are saying it was a competition and he lost, but then it was a sample size issue?
  14. Our bullpen was 23rd in ERA, even worse in k's last year. We went out and signed four guys on minor league deals. I had not heard of any of them. I am not sure on what planet this constitutes action to improve a pen. Especially since Terry Ryan called it a priority.
  15. If I am not mistaken, he was pitching better than two guys that were still in the hunt when he was told he was in the pen.
  16. Offseason plan. Step 1. Trade Milone for prospects. Or package him and Hicks and see what type of catching that fetches us. Step 2. Move May to the pen. Step 3. Sign a guy like Steve Cishek to the pen (basically makes what Milone did). I think that is a very simple plan to win more games in both 2016 and 2017. And keep the higher upside arms pitching 200 innings a year.
  17. The frustration is this was a man made issue. We should not have woke up in mid-March and said, we need May in the pen because nobody there can strike anyone out.
  18. So we take the one guy in our rotation that can miss bats, a young, talented pitcher and move him to the pen. Then we strip away two of his four pitches. And that is somehow a good thing? If we needed k's in the pen we had other alternatives. Steve Cishek signed for 2-10, 7.8 k per 9 last year, 9.5 for his career. I would be surprised if he gets another start with the Twins, especially if he assumes the same 7th or 8th inning role. May starting = Sano at 3B
  19. I think it depends on what your expectations are. Mike Trout? Not gonna happen. But it sounds like you don't think he will stick in the big leagues. I think he is really close with the bat, given his speed and defense to stick. Even a .250 hitter with 2 wins a year on defense and 40 Sb is a good player. I think Buxton exceeds that offensive output by a long shot though.
  20. Felt good about the process is a cliche term that doesn't mean anything at all. That was the basis for the comment. He said he was missing with his fastball and apparently he hung a some curve balls. He has only two pitches, so I guess I don't understand what process he was happy about that led him to be missing both of them today.
  21. I expect his numbers will be inflated due to getting about half his overall reps against lefties, which he has always hit (a semi platoon player in NY). And these boards counting him as yet another player that had more success elsewhere. And his HR's will likely be inflated in that stadium as well.
  22. I started a blog post about Sano here. ESPN has him #96 in MLB this year, way too low. http://twinsdaily.com/blog/456/entry-8242-espn-top-100-players/
