  1. I thought of Wimmers when we drafted Eades too. I don't like the low ceiling type pitchers in the early rounds, but Wimmers at 20 or 21 or wherever was more irritating than Eades in round 2. To see Eades struggling so bad in low A is shocking even to me. He is 21-22 and started at LSU.
  2. I did hear Peter Gammons during the 2014 MLB draft say that if you have had TJ, odds are you will need another TJ within six or seven years. If accurate, I would be hesitant. That puts Giolito with a second Tommy John in his 4th or 5th year in the big leagues and most pitchers don't come back from the second one.
  3. I don't know that we can consider Rosario as a 2B anymore. I heard rumblings in the off-season that the Twins were very proud of his effort from moving to CF to 2B. But it wasn't going to work out. So far he has been in the OF 40 games versus 15 at 2B. So it appears some merit exists... Circling back to Dozier, even if Polanco and Rosario are 2B contenders, we have one in the hand at this point and a good one. We would have to be blown away. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=rosari001edd
  4. Yeah...command and control was all you heard out of Wimmers on draft day. It was a bummer then and it still is now. No logic really. If the upside is a #4 or #5 starter......you can sign a guy like Corriea for nothing. Give me thet upside of any of those other guys.
  5. We did not have a chance to draft Giolito if you prefer Buxton. They were in the same draft, Giolito was a high school kid (first draft) and he went 14th.
  6. A good fielding second baseman that is young and cheap, takes walks and can get close to 30-30. Definitely a building block. It comes down to when we can compete. We have Dozier under control for like four more years and could probably sign him to a 5-6 year deal. We should be competing within 1-2 years. If we were the Phillies and we were awful, aging, with absolutely no farm system. Then Dozier might be a guy you trade to speed up the process. But not here. You can't have a team of 25 rookies and think you can compete.
  7. I side with Mr. Brooks. He is dominating AAA now and the Twins are going to move him up this year at some point. Between now and then, he will not have learned anything further at AAA. So for my money, let's get some experience up here and see how his stuff fares with the big club. Then you can work on and think about adjustments all off-season. The longer we wait, the more of the adjustment period will get pushed to next year.
  8. Based on Elvis Andrus 8 year, $118M deal, I think Dozier is worth about a billion dollars as a short stop (give or take a $100M)
  9. I think you bring $40 cash and just do the math in the morning!
  10. Good point, but lets sub "rookies" for "young pitchers". I would argue Mike Pelfrey in the rotation is going to be a worse recipe than any other reciple, including Meyer and May. The guy has not been downright awful and he has given us no innings over the last two years. We have seen nothing that says he is even a 5th starter in the AL and I really hope they don't have him on scholarship yet again.
  11. You can find this discussion happening here: http://twinsdaily.com/showthread.php/12607-The-Future-of-Trevor-Plouffe
  12. With a good closer and several useful players on the MLB roster right now. Good AA and AAA guys which are highlighted here and the potential for May, Pino, or Kris Johnson to contribute from the pen, and Nick Burdi as early as next year this looks like a strength of the organization.
  13. Probably not. Scott is probably trying to goat us into contract talk now that will net his client more then they think he will get on the free agent market. The Pelfrey conversation started under the same premise and we were bidding against ourselves. I am confident nobody was going to offer Mike a 2 year deal. If he really loves it here, then 2/15 would prove it. If not, this is just more Boras bologna and we should not fall for it again.
  14. I agree regarding Morales and Willingham. I think Dozier gets an extension one way or another. So I think doing it now and saving a little may make sense. I think you can trade him if you have cheap options and a cheap contract woudl make him more attractive. I agree 100% with your logic regarding Kurt, but I just dont' believe the Twins will give Pinto a shot. This is basically a throw away year and he only has caught 18 of 90 games. So I think the reality is Eric Fryer has a better shot at being our catcher next year if we don't have Kurt. So a 2/15 type deal should be explored first...he probably would turn it down anyway.
  15. Everything I see says Kohl is having a great year and I honestly expected him to start out very slow given the lack of baseball. We make a lot of noise about the K's, but he is sitting at 6.36 per 9. Is it safe to assume he would get at least 1 more K per 5 IP start if he was using his best pitch more? It seems to me like it would. If he did his K rate would jump to 8.13 per 9 and none of us would be talking about it.
  16. When a team shoots themselves in the foot with a terrible contract, a complainer, a declining guy....best move is to let it happen. We should not go near this guy.
  17. I completely agree. Payroll was about flat year over year. I would not be shocked if payroll is actually lower next year and that is not specifically because the Pohlad's are cheap. We just have CF, 3B, and SP x 2 that are going to be filled with rookies, at a minimum.
  18. Talk is cheap. I think the first move should be Gardy, but I would be surprised. He seems like an old dog in new world to me, behind the curve with everything, stubburn. I am not holding my breath though.
  19. Thank you. It would be great if he turned into a ground ball type pitcher with good movement. When he unleashes that slider maybe the K rate climbs. Any guesses on how many sliders he threw last night?
  20. I expect Sano to be given every opportunity to show he can stick at 3B. But given the errors already and the fact that he will likely get bigger as he ages, it isn't a lock that he sticks. Just one of the many risks of moving Plouffe right now, for a non top 100 prospect that is not likely to make the big leagues and be average (which Plouffe is now).
  21. I love that Buxton is 5 for 9 in his last two games, with a HR. Much has been made of Kohl Stewarts low K's, but he sports a healthy 2.5 K BB ratio and the just 69 hits in 81 IP, .3 HR per 9. Any reports on his movement? Seems like nobody is squaring him up.
  22. I don't understand why so many want to trade Plouffe. Here seems to be general consensus: -His OPS+ is about 100, or average -His defense is about average -This is a thin position around the league, look no further than the Twins 3B from 2006 to 2012. -The guy makes no money and is under control -Replacements right now are Escobar (career .646 OPS) and Nunez (.698 OPS, dumped by the Yankees, poor glove) -There is no consensus that Sano will stick at 3B and he is not likely to be here until June 2015. -Nobody really expects a ton in return On top of that, we could rattle off a huge list of Twins that took awhile to really click, even though I would argue "not clicking Plouffe is still an average 3B". Hunter, Dozier, Carlos Gomez, etc. So what is the motivation here?
  23. I think Ricky signed a big contract, was hurt and tried playing through it. He had a career 4.35 ERA prior to this year in over 1,000 IP and he K'd something like 7.75 per 9. Something clearly wasn't right. I think it is way too early to cut losses. He can still pitch well.
  24. You think they are interested in a catcher with an OPS of .984? They need Kurt, bad. I looked at that Pena guy, .654 OPS in 65 games. I am guessing those were about the first 65 games of the year.....
  25. Here is a crazy one, Willingham and Suzuki for Tony Cingrani. Their catcher is no good and Cingrani struggled this year, then got himself in the dog house for not disclosing an injury. I have it on good authority that we were trying to get Cingrani for Span, but they said no. Now they have a ton of pitchers. Cueto, Simon, Leake, Bailey, and Latos.
