  1. I know hes given up the 2 solo shots, but he's been effective and the pitch count is good. I think I'd let him start the 7th and have a quick hook.
  2. Agree and think the comparison is apt. He's certainly not Maddux, but his approach and what he does is Maddux like.
  3. Not saying it would be awful. But he and Gibson would only be 1 year deals. Santana could be done after 2018, we'll see. And while Gibson may have matured, and Colon is fun, solid, and brings intangibles, don't you really need to bring in another quality guy as good as Santana and Berrios to head the rotation? Just think you may be crowding the rotation. And you still have Mejia, of course.
  4. Nice job after that HR. I get Gibson maybe coming back, and it might be smart. But I also really would be interested in Colon back. He brings exuberance and experience. Can't bring back both though.
  5. I think good no call there. There are rules, but you have to use your head and think about intent also, don't you?
  6. Article really only has Doug's point of view as the Twins basically say they won't comment. OK...fair enough. It's also on the FO to make decisions like these throughout the entire organization to put the system in place they want. But all that being said, this sounds a little funny and smells a bit bad.
  7. WITH Gibson retained, AND adding the one quality FA/TRADE GUY, I think I'd stop there. Believe it or not, I don't see a need for an "under the radar guy". At some point, May should be back. And Gonsalvez, Slegers, Romero, Jorge and Beeker should all be at WAS for depth, competition and future promotion. Use that extra money for a bat and a veteran reliever.
  8. New Guy, Santana, Berrios, Gibson and Mejia. Mejia is going to make it, I believe, but still has to keep developing and it could be questioned if the his spot is guaranteed. And not sure if May will be 100% to begin the season.
  9. Used to love the Mothership. And they have done so much to advance sports, especially college sports, which I actually enjoy more than most pro sports. But they became so wrapped up in themselves that they lost touch with everything that made them unique and special. And now they are cancelling programming, laying off talent, and counting on the Fed government to bail them out. Don't know if that's a shame or what they deserve. But back to baseball!
  10. I am already missing the milb recaps with serious withdrawal. How do we live without Tom's daily recap when the season, inevitably, draws to a final close? Thank you again Tom, for all you have brought to the already best fan website on the planet! Back to the game! I actually like hunting, when it's used properly. I don't hate Molitor for using it, I just want it taught better and executed better! And absolutely, no disrespect to Vargas, but in that situation, why in hell, with an expanded roster, wouldn't you use someone like Granite to come up and do that very thing? I really think Molitor has grown as a manager, and is growing along with his young team, and has been much better the second half of the season than he was the first half. But I think he missed an opportunity there. Secondly, Polanco knocked in the first 2 runs. If you've actually followed his career, as I have, you would know that after his first couple of rookie ball season's, his bat started to really come around. When it did, he began the next few season's as a #1 or #2 hitter. Sooner or later, he was slotted in the 3 hole as his team's best overall hitter. And he was productive there. So to see him productive in that spot is no surprise to me. Third, the only thing that "stunk" about Buxton's walk off HR...other than for the second night in a row the SP deserved the win...was that he trotted instead of sprinting. Lol! Kid deserved his moment to be sure. But am I the only one who would have loved to watch him sprint the bases?
  11. UnF***ing believable!!! Watched the game but busy with something and couldn't join in but had to here at the end. WOW! I mean...just...WOW! Shame to HAVE to go extra innings, but the pitching has been outstanding over all, great fielding, a huge offensive game followed by back to back bottom of the 10th walk off HR by Rosario and Buxton! I mean, other than if it was the WS, does it really get better than this? I want to print up T-shirts that say: " I LOVE THIS TEAM!"
  12. More encouraged than I have been for some time when looking at the SP option and depth in the system. And as mentioned, the list doesn't include Beeker, Jorge or Stewart. My best guess to begin 2018? FA/trade Santana Berrios Gibson Mejia They absolutely will, and should, make one move. Gibson really seems to have turned a corner mentally and mechanically and will not cost much to be brought back on a 1 year deal for depth. And this doesn't include May making a comeback. My projection doesn't include Slegers, or Gonsalves simply due to depth, but they will be in the conversation and fight for jobs. I just see them opening in AAA initially. Think about Rochester with Slegers, Gonsalves, Romero, Beeker and Jorge. Wow!
  13. That was fun! If I were to pick at anything, it would be failing to score more when we had some golden opportunities. Just a shame Santana couldn't have gotten the win. Blow them out or win in dramatic fashion in the 10th, winning is still winning. Just imagine a little more clutch hitting and a little better pitching. Wow!
  14. While there were certainly warranted questions regarding Rosario and an un-disciplined nature at times, I always believed he could do exactly what he is now. (With room to get better still). You read it in scouting reports, you saw it in milb production and he displayed flashes early in the ML. I think a pale comparison to Cares for Polanco is not a bad one. He makes contact, is difficult to SO, runs well, and he does have the good, quick hands with some pop. Whether he ultimately plays SS or 2B I think he will be fine defensively. I still wonder about he, Dozier and Gordon all existing in the team in some capacity. Would be nice! I don't think, based on potential, stuff and early returns, that it's a stretch to include Mejia here. He's only a rookie, but he has flashed. The biggest problem is economizing his pitches. He seems to largely get ahead of hitters but struggles at times to put them away. But the potential is there and the early returns are very encouraging. I really hope for a few good starts to close out the season.
  15. One of my favorite Twins and part of the "soul patrol", Matt Lawton.
  16. You knows what baseball is? It's WAY beyond being "America's game". (The NFL has taken over that mantel, to a degree until you factor in longevity vs daily, etc). When was the last time you screamed out "touchdown, field goal, 2 point conversion!" To this day everything is about a base, (including romantic interludes), and a win. In baseball, we measure EVERYTHING. But what we can never fully measure is what baseball brings to us and means to us. Every game is a new day. Filled with hope and possibility. This team gets it. Win or lose, they fight.
  17. OK...LOVE this idea! So will stay away from Smalley and Wyneger. Or do those two apply now? Lol Mike Marshall Pete Redfern Doug Corbett
  18. Hey, you have days where you just lose and lose badly. We still won 2 out of 4. I just hate that it feels like we "lost" game 3 instead of them winning. Colon has been quality and a huge boon to this team. One really bad day doesn't ruin what he's done and may yet do the remainder of the season. I still really like the arms that Duffey and Pressly have, and all their potential. But both are just becoming very frustrating.
  19. Hmmm...my post didn't post. Lol Let's try this again. Accurate or not, milb lists Moran at 6' 1" and 167lbs. These young guys can change and grow physically very quickly. And perhaps Moran is already bigger than this. But without more meat on his bones, perhaps his best role will be as a reliever.
  20. Not sure this is accurate or not, but milb lists Moran as 6' 1" and 167lbs. Height is OK, but is he really that thin? These young guys can change so much physically, and quickly, that he may already have filled out more than that. But without more meat on his bones, would seem his best role could end up being in the pen.
  21. Sorry...stepped out of the room when I heard the word "math". Twins lineup ready yet.
  22. I love prospect rankings from all sources. There is a validity to them for reasons. But how amazing is it that Hildenberger and Busentiz have become top relievers for this won't quit team over several top, albeit injured, much higher ranked prospects.
  23. Haven't closed the book on Rogers at all, or Duffey, or Pressly for that matter...but interesting how we all feel better with Hildenberger or Busentiz. Times are a changing?
  24. LOVE me some Escobar, but wondered why Rosario wasn't hitting 4 with Sano out. Made too much sense to make sense???
  25. Still think it may have been too early
