  1. Ya, really, that is what they are saying, isn't it. I wish I was as smart as you and thought about that.
  2. There are lots of articles about the difference, with examples of pitchers. I just didn't quote them all.....if you really want, you can find them pretty fast. I was surprised that it did matter all that much, frankly.
  3. I was merely answering the question of what the difference was, not opining on it at all.......You can call it stupid all day, scouts have used this for years, and they think it works. Even the stats geeks talk about it, so the two sides agree.......maybe it has value and isn't stupid.
  4. from fangraphs: Some teams will grade for components of command (throwing quality strikes) with control (throwing it in the strike zone, usually closely following walk rate) from ESPN: A pitcher with control can throw strikes. He'll usually get the ball over the plate, doesn't often fall behind a hitter, and will rarely hand out free passes to first. In that manner, he remains in control of the at-bat. Hitters often get defensive against control pitchers, expanding their strike zone and chasing pitches they might lay off when facing pitchers with less control. Command more specifically describes a pitcher's ability to hit the catcher's target seemingly at will. If the catcher sets up on the outside corner at the knees, a pitcher with good command will deliver the ball right on target and the catcher will hardly have to move. If a pitcher has command, he's less likely to fall behind a hitter and issue walks, but he's also rarely going to leave a pitch over the middle of the plate. or here: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2011/9/2/2400473/another-scouting-primer-how-to-scout-pitchers
  5. This. 100% this. I'm surprised we didn't read about a Pelfrey extension this am, after last night* *it should be obvious this is a joke, but just in case, I'm adding the asterisk
  6. By what measure is he good, and not below average for a QB on a power campus? I am genuinely curious.
  7. Excellent point about the offensive holes elsewhere maybe influencing their decisions in the OF.....
  8. My agreement was that he'll go down some next year, not that he can't hit. I have no idea if he can hit long term or not.
  9. I hate to agree, but I agree. I am reading more national people wondering if he can really hit or not (some were questioning that months ago).
  10. That is a good point on Rosario and his likely ceiling.......maybe I just don't trust Hicks enough right now.
  11. Well, KC seems to do with light/medium hitting corner OF who play good to elite defense, so I think you are still under rating OF defense. IF I was trading one to make room for Kepler (which I wouldn't do, but that was the question), I'd deal Hicks. IMO, he's the least likely to hit and field, but some team will see this year as a corner turner and offer value for him.
  12. I'm very glad Escobar is doing well. I hope they give him the job next year. I see 13-14 wins the rest of the way as a reasonable projection.
  13. More great work, Seth, thanks. some great performances. Some guys with real upside also, lots to look forward to.
  14. This isn't about one game, I am asking when/if we can expect them to be more than the 5th best team, a team that beats the bad teams, but doesn't win the games against good team..... It's too bad we can't talk about the gophers and what we want to see, and have to talk about me.....like Ben did. He actually talked about the team, and I appreciate that. Ben, how much better do you expect the OL to be this year, I haven't had a chance to look at that at all yet?
  15. I agree, it takes time....it is year 5....how many years until we can expect them to be one of the 2-3 best big # teams occasionally, not to lose bowl games they are favored in, and to win games against winning teams not just the dregs? If we shouldn't judge a coach on Wins and Losses.....how should we? When he gets a QB, they will have a chance, but so far, there is no evidence he can get a QB, so far.
  16. I have no faith that this team will beat good teams consistently, or win any bowl game. There just isn't evidence it is happening. Kill got them respectable again, I guess that's worth $2.5MM a year now. Another year where they beat up on the bad teams, but no cookie at the end.
  17. I'm surprised only by Rogers, due to innings limits type stuff...... congrats and good luck to all of them!
  18. Wasn't my intent .... But I see how it came across that way. It was more the"real fan" part that comment was aimed at, as if some fans were superior to other fans. Apologies.
  19. I'd like Vargas, Kepler, a 3rd catcher and whatever pitchers they want on top of Berrios. Not sure I care at all beyond that.
  20. Great write-up! Thanks to both the author and the player.
  21. I suggest not going to a soccer match......
  22. No, it isn't like that. That actually impacts your ability to watch the movie. Missing 2 seconds of game time, if that, every 2 minutes or so? that has no impact, really.
  23. The author is suggesting other people stop doing something they enjoy because he doesn't like it. Seems reasonable to disagree with that stance, doesn't it?
  24. Ah, got it. Thanks. Not calling up berrios just tells us they care more about 2022 than this year. I guess fans should too?
