  1. Did you just compare amazing athletes to Sano? They absolutely could have had him in the OF in the minors. Heck, they didn't play Polanco at SS the whole year, then called him up to play......SS. This is a misalignment between the minors and the majors and not having plans, IMO. But, feel free to say our opinions are ridiculous.
  2. It was just two games, though, and it was because they are an AL team playing in an NL park....so, ya, it is totally different that doing it on purpose for a full year, at the beginning of the year...100% not comparable at all.
  3. Schwarber had played OF before. If the twins were considering it, why did sano never play there in the minors? That's my main issue, they did not best set him up for success, imo. As for now? I try him at third for the first two months. If it doesn't look real, I either move him to DH full time, or part time with a bit of first sprinkled in.
  4. No, Rooney rule, and not only do they have a race issue, they are building a class issue. Pretty much only Ivy League school types are getting jobs right now.
  5. So much this....and no hitting coordinator in the minors?
  6. No, because if you hit and can't field at all (Sano) in the OF, you aren't valuable either.....you can't only do 1 of those things, and do the other horribly, and be good......
  7. Not sure you read that right......he didn't just lose power this year. And, shockingly, his WAR reflects that. When he doesn't hit, no amount of corner D makes him a good player. Have you actually looked at his WAR this year.....because that is what WAR says, he was mediocre overall..... I remain boggled people want to not take into account any defensive "score" when deciding players are good or not...
  8. OMG....Heyward has a bad year at the plate, proves WAR is bad/evil/wrong? Unreal.
  9. off topic: the best way to use twitter is to only follow a tiny number of people, and not to read the replies KLAW, beergraphs, AP news, the Fangraphs writers......that's all I follow, I think
  10. Perkins should work out a buy out.....if he wants to be able to use that arm in 20 years, IMO. The Twins should assume they get nothing from him, and if does, gravy!
  11. Payroll is an advantage. There, we all agree. Now can we all agree it is not ok to be this bad this long? That payroll should not be an excuse to be bad? That seems like a reasonable request to me. They are bad because they've not acquired enough talent, either thru the draft, trades or FA. Not because they don't have enough money to be good.
  12. Talent evaluation seems like it is THE thing teams should invest in. While coaching and developing and health and everything is important, picking the right players in the draft/trades/FA is, imo, the most important thing to do right.
  13. I don't know why a RP needs a TON of time in teh minors, especially with how all the rest of MLB is getting younger and younger......there was no reason for Rogers not to be up in 2015, when they NEEDED bullpen help, for example. I hope we see nearly all those young arms this coming year, they only have so many pitches in their arms......
  14. That seems to be what some here believe, yes. We just should expect multiple years of being one of the worst teams in the league, and even if they get lucky, we shouldn't expect it to last more than a year or two before they are terrible again.
  15. This is the primary reason I no longer root for individuals, but uniforms. We just don't know what people are really like. Indeed, I have actively rooted for certain Vikings to lose their jobs, or be traded, or whatever..... As for teams.....and team mates, just once I want a team mate to say he thinks the person is bad/wrong/whatever, and he hopes to not be his team mate ever again. But, that almost (never?) never happens. It's sad, really sad, imo, that they just can't / won't do it. As for the league/team punishment....I think I am good with second chances (for most things), but not for third and fourth and fifth chances...And yes, people outside sports get fired for stuff like this all the time, so let's stop pretending that doesn't happen, please.
  16. I'm all for revenue sharing.....there is no MLB w/o the other teams... I'd really like to see every team throw, say, 75% of their revenue in a pot, and then have it divided up...or something like that. But, no chance.
  17. I can't see any of them starting in AAA in spring, and they have no infielders either. I guess they are set at catcher.....but we'll see.
  18. ha, down from contention, but yes, I can see how you read it that way!
  19. If I'm Detroit, I try to win next year. KC, MN, and Chi will all be down.....the Tigers still have great players. I think I try one more time with them, and if it doesn't work, they can do what they did 2 years ago, and add great young players.
  20. I would be open to Sano at 1B.....but not thrilled to give up on 3B just yet, plus you have Mauer, Park, and Vargas to play 1B. heck, I'd be ok with Sano at DH full time, if that makes the most sense. It is, imo, bunk that you can't "relegate" someone that young to DH....if he can't field, let him DH full time. DH is a position. But, for now, I'd see if he can play 3B.
  21. Unless you want Plouffe to play 3B, in case Sano can't, I just can't justify him on this roster. Mauer, Sano, Vargas, Park---where does Plouffe really fit...but I think Escobar can play 3B in a pinch, maybe Dozier....I'd definitely try to sign a decent AAA 3B from another system, or ask for one back in trade. Doesn't need to be a great prospect, but needs to be able to play some if Sano can't.
  22. 100% keep: Byron Buxton Max Kepler Jorge Polanco Joe Mauer John Ryan Murphy Byungho Park Eddie Rosario Miguel Sano Mitch Garver Zack Granite Daniel Palka Engelb Vielma edit: forgot Escobar Trade if given a great deal: Brian Dozier Probably keep: Adam Brett Walker Kennys Vargas Stuart Turner I wouldn't keep: Trevor Plouffe (though he's more on the bubble for me) Juan Centeno - Just not that good at anything Robbie Grossman - terrible on defense, terrible. Danny Santana- can't hit, can't field, somehow doesn't run the bases well
  23. We watched ARC, which I believe is a Netflix movie last weekend, really good.
  24. Ah, thanks. Still don't care all that much, but now I care a tiny bit...
