  1. what? You better be paying taxes, or you are in trouble......reinvesting doesn't matter at all....
  2. As a rule, I hold until I NEED to money.....as I'm not smart enough to know what the market will do (I mean, I like NVIDIA a lot, long term)......but, we will need some money early next year, so I might lock it in. That said, I have a couple losers that I could sell, and take a tiny tax loss. Unless I love a loser, I usually sell those when I need cash, to keep the tax bill low. We are wondering what the new President and Congress will do to tax rates........and at some point, I'm going to have to start selling winners.....
  3. It's the rule 5 draft, the only interesting thing is that it is something to talk about. The odds on these guys are longer than the icicle hanging from a MN roof w/o insulation....
  4. Well, I am A LOT older than you Brock, and have spent the last 10 years putting every penny I could into the markets and retirement, after getting a late start. It helps that the giant US insurance company I work for that is HQ in MN allows us to buy at a discount, and that the stock is up over 400% in the last 5 years or so.....And, I took the money from the house sale and put it in the market at almost the perfect moment this summer......
  5. Probably cut a year off, yes. Might also get me a new car.....
  6. Oh, I'm up a TON, like, I put several tens of thousands in......but it could have been even more.
  7. In all of history, every run is a bubble, the real question is how far down will it go in the next year or so....
  8. But what is the point of not allowing the trade before teh date you can start signing deals? That just makes no sense, imo.
  9. Wow, that's a stupid rule. A team can't acquire pool money until July 2? How can they plan what they want to do? MLB, I just don't get why they make this so complex.....
  10. I cant' find anything definitive on that....but IIRC, they can trade it, but not spend it, just like before. But, I think that was a guess on the author's part.
  11. I'm guessing lots of small units of cash or international dollars are about to change hands.....I predict the Twins "sell" Turner for like 100K in international money, or cash. That's a guess, of course.
  12. I'm hoping for international signing dollars. Cash is just money in their pocket.
  13. I just wish I had not diversified, and put it all in NVIDIA....I'm up between 80 and 200% this year....I literally could have considered early retirement had I really gambled......(like in a couple years). Heck if I had just stayed with my employer......
  14. In fairness, I have suggested trades all over this site, but there are about 4 active threads about what do with Dozier...... I aim for a number 1/2 type SP in the minors, and a legit position prospect or two more SP prospects further away....
  15. I also never did that, I never judged the pick.....I MERELY POINTED OUT HE WAS UP AND GREAT. NOTHING MORE THAN THAT WAS DONE. WHY DO PEOPLE NEED TO NEED TO ATTACK THINGS THAT WERE NEVER DONE? WHY?
  16. Where did I actually JUDGE, or call him a bust, or any other thing, other than pointing out Turner was drafted after him? I'm the one still saying he can play SS for this team some day, so I literally have no idea what you are posting about here.
  17. ? on Mauer? He's gone in 2 years, I don't know what you are typing there at all. "keep trading 5 WAR players"? When have they done that? Santana or Knoblauch? One of those actually worked..... Sigh. Who here has said trade him for the sake of trading him? Other than those arguing against trading him? Yes, the number 1 issue is lack of talent. That's driven by a lot of things, I can't say for sure if it is scouting, drafting, development, willingness to go all in on spending, or what.....but they need more talent.
  18. I predicted they'd draft him....and kind of wanted it, yes. I'm not down on him, I'm disappointed players picked after him are up, and are very good/great. It's not my job to pick the right players......if we are going to judge the success of this team in acquiring talent vs me, as opposed to MLB teams, I'm not in that game....
  19. Uh, no, that's not my plan, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. Dozier is signed for 2 more years....they aren't going to be good next year, and probably not the year after (if they don't trade Dozier and/or ESan)..... I've never once, until now, been accused of suggesting the Twins act like a small market team. I'm sure birdwatcher and others are quite amused by this suggestion. Trading Dozier isn't about building one class, the first class of Buxton, Sano, and Berrios is already "here". It's about increasing the odds of them having more good players when it matters. YMMV, of course. But I don't personally see a legit path to success w/o trading Dozier for 1-3 legit prospects. In 2 years, Mauer's deal is off the books. They'll have plenty of money to re-sign anyone that turns out great, or to add in FA at that point.
  20. Trea Turner was selected after Nick Gordon....................sigh.
  21. It's not a 1 year plan.....that's still the projection even with Dozier, to lose a lot. Isn't it?
  22. Dave Cameron's thoughts: acesfull2312:04 What in god's name are the Rockies doing? Dave Cameron 12:04 Apparently, every year one NL West team has to get tired of their position and try to win prematurely. Two years ago, it was the Padres. Last year, it was the D'Backs. Now it's the Rockies turn.
  23. Tough call.... if he's about the same player for the next few years, that's a lot more value than a pick is LIKELY to put up, buy they are giving up upside for sure......
  24. No, most sports fans are casual fans....they root and watch winners. So, even if they are competitive, they are still "casual" in the sense that if the team starts losing again, they will bail for other fun things to do. Which, frankly, they should. That is one of the incentives in business, put out a good product, or lose money.....
