  1. Very, very, few players under thirty are ever free agents. Good luck if that is your rule. Go look at the lists the last few years, and see who makes your cut.
  2. Good free agents aren't signing short deals. So, only flyers or old or bad free agents?
  3. So, basically, never sign a free agent and the owner pockets the money? We worry a lot about efficiency, but if the alternative is more profit, how is that good?
  4. How about this off season? Can we expect them to buy now? Or keep waiting?
  5. Is the window open this year to try to win now? Or, should we wait another year to see pitching? Crushing it seems a bit over the top. They've added a bunch of c level prospects and had one draft. Other than that, not much has happened in the player acquisition front, imo. Nice work, but little earth shattering.
  6. Where are they rated high? If they didn't like any of the available foreign players or the braves players, this is a fine, if unexciting use of the limits
  7. We won't agree. They reneged on the deal to try to get ohtani. Not exactly the moral high road.
  8. No. They spent no money at all. They sent the right to spend money away. If they freely there were no good prospects to sign, this kind of trade makes sense.
  9. Why would they sign him, if he can't play baseball because he failed his physical?
  10. Zero reason to sign Mauer more than year to year, at the end of any given year. He's not going to another team.
  11. They signed a contract. That they voided to try to get ohtani. Do people really think he had vision issues so bad he can't play baseball? He may have vision issues, but anyone want to bet on if he signs with someone and plays next year?
  12. Underwhelming, but not sure what else they could do if they didn't like the braves players. Once they took the money away from a poor person, I wondered what their plans were for it
  13. i'm not saying it.....read the internet. People have been saying he's the number 1 free agent for a long time, years. People are saying he'd get around $150-200MM if he was truly a FA. He's the best FA, by far, not even close. He's young. He's healthy. He has multiple pitches. If he's just "OK" this year, he'll probalby put up around 3 WAR as a SP, if he's dominant in his first year, he'll put up 4-6 WAR.
  14. where, exactly, did I say Thorpe should be there this year? I want him set up for next year (uh, to me, this year is 2018......). Ready. Not "he needs at least half a year in AA/AAA first" ready. That's hardly "sprinting" if he's the prospect they need him to be. And, he's just one example. Why did Gonsalves spend nearly all year in AA, utterly dominating, and not move to AAA sooner to face better hitters? We are just going to disagree on this. IMO, they aren't going to win anything if they won't take risks. Those risks include moving someone that might be an ok number 5 to RP sooner, rather than later, and getting a guy like Thorpe ready to pitch in the majors in 2019.
  15. Every year they delay having the good pitchers in MN, is another year gone of having Sano, Buxton, et. al. all on the roster.
  16. This. Be aggressive, try to win. This team and its fans spend a lot of time trying not to lose.....Slegers is very unlikely to be a very good starting pitcher, but he might be a very good RP. They have plenty of guys in AA and AAA with similar stuff as him, as this article points out. Start moving some of them to RP sooner rather than later.
  17. The rush would be, I don't know, getting him to MN before he gets older. This site is filled with people saying hte TWins should slow play their pitchers, let them get more time in the low minors, what is the hurry.....how has the worked out for this team? Why are other teams calling up younger players? Why are other teams calling up younger RPs, and seeing more strikeouts than this team? Maybe it is because pitchers lose velocity as they age.....
  18. So you think Slegers is more likely to be a good MLB pitcher than Thorpe?
  19. Keep the actual good pitchers down so a bunch of number five at best can be up? Hate that. I don't care about she, I want the best up
  20. I love how people are trying to disparage Ohtani now that he won't be a Twin. He is the number one FA, by far, this year and would have been last year.
  21. Agreed. Counting on him to be ready is a bad plan.
  22. There is no evidence of this front office making strikeouts a priority or not. We literally have no idea, based on their inaction last year or this, so far. People keep posting about the front office like we have any idea what they will do. How do you know?
