  1. People sure have a lot of eggs in the Rooker basket.....and I am talking about this year, not next year or some future year. Napoli is not a good player. Adding him subtracts from the bench, because he can only DH. Sano can DH vs lefties.....or Nunez. Nunez hit better than Napoli, and can "play" positions.
  2. It can be viewed positively, and risky, at the same time. I would argue this one was exactly that. A gamble, but probably the right one at the time.
  3. Except for the impact on the 25 man roster..... He was not good at all last year. He can't field. What does he do when Mauer or Sano DH? I wasn't talking about the money at all
  4. Archer would require about 2x that much value. If it is Gordon, you also need 2 SP minor league players and a guy like Kiriloff, maybe Kepler...... Or, Lewis and 2-3 other minor league players.
  5. funny guy! I've thought about doing some day trading, but have not done it. When I act, I am often wrong, when I have a plan and don't act, I often wish I had. When I got laid off, I did think about taking around 20K or so, and day trading with it, but I have not done so. Been trying to write a decent novel....and traveling a lot. Now that I'm home for some time, and am in rewriting and looking for some work, maybe I should day trade. But, day trading is a JOB, and a risky one at that. It's not something to sort of do....
  6. Thorpe is the best guy on this part of the list....he's a legit MLB starter, imo (based on nothing....but when did that stop anyone on the interwebs) Garver should be at least a solid backup catcher, if not more. Wade will get starts for some team someplace. I have never liked the Diaz signing, so I feel too biased to comment, but maybe some actual results would be nice. Littel? I doubt he's ever much more than a AAAA player, gets some MLB time here and there, but is the guy that goes back and forth between MLB and AAA, mostly in AAA. That said, who knows? Maybe he has some insane something that will translate. Nice list, the inclusion of Thorpe, Garver, and Wade make this part for me. All three are MLB players.
  7. Counting on Hughes or May to start this year would be criminally insane. Clown Posse insane.
  8. Definitely up today. Could have been better, or worse. I shouldn't complainxi have more saved than most. I am more having a conversation here....
  9. Steve Adams on mlbtraderumors (and Twins' fan)....really does not like Lynn or Cobb as good options. this has been your PSA of the day...
  10. Oh, i agree, it was more a "if they think he's really got a shot there" comment.....I have no idea if he does or not.
  11. If Jorge has the stuff to pitch in late innings, I'd move him to RP......interestingly, on FG today, the prospect guys said that MLB teams are valuing late inning RPs more than number 4/5AAAA types.....
  12. I was not passing judgement,I was answering a question. Worse for this team, and this is a judgement, one of the good pitchers is in his mid 30s....
  13. I think the point is that nearly all their pitchers are no better than number 4 types......other than Berrios and Santana. I think that was the point.... I'd guess Mejia sits in that 4/5 AAAA range most of his career. That's a valuable asset, just not a game changing asset.
  14. I would bet money on Rortverdt starting in CR.....but not a lot of money.
  15. It's much worse than 10 for me! Anyone got a job they need filled?
  16. Assuming winning matters at all. If it doesn't, then of course they should pocket the money.
  17. If I had executed my plan this morning, I'd have made a lot of money. Instead, I did what the experts say, and held my position and lost a fortune.
  18. sports have been part of the entertainment world for thousands of years. Sure, baseball will eventually die off, but it will be replaced with something. Probably rollerball....
  19. and yet fox just increased payments to the NFL by nearly 20% per year for 1 game a week......no bubble bursting in site just yet.
  20. Crazy drops considering how everyone is reporting huge earnings. If I had a job and cash....I'd be feeling good about buying in a week or two, once the dust settles.
  21. IMO, the issue is also partly that winning has very little to do with revenue any more....so what, exactly, is hte incentive to spend money to win? TV, MLBLAM, radio, revenue sharing, etc.......has there ever been a time where winning mattered so little to revenue? As for the solution, there are SO MANY unintended consequences of any change that you almost have to change the whole compensation system, if you change any of it. I don't see any long term issues to the sport, or most any sport, though. It's all a bunch of talk, and yet tv payments keep going up, and ticket prices keep going up, and teams keep making more money..... for all the talk of the "NFL IS DYING"....Fox sports just agreed to pay $100MM more per year for Thursday night football.......
  22. Eagles are the anti-zimmer coaches, playing aggressively and not going for FGs and going for it on 4th down....that's one reason they are champions. They play to win. They understand the odds and the situation really well. Big fan of their coaching.
  23. There are still ads appearing over the reply box about half the time on my phone....I realize some of you may see that as a feature....
