  1. For real—what are the suspended game rules? Is any of this going to count?
  2. Just wait a sec — It gets better (worse)
  3. The Twins and Braves must have been adamant against playing a double header and agreed to get this game in tonight, and the umpires asked to wait this out for as long as they can? Games have been postponed for much lesser weather. Then again I think rules for suspended games are different than they used to be?
  4. Fun experiment if they try to play tonight—start an opener, prep Ober to come in after the rain delay
  5. Current radar has those storms passing through beginning 7:15 to 7:30, with more rain not trailing off til 9:30 or so
  6. Kepler out again. There is probably some substance to the rumor Kepler hurt his knee as a result of the spider prank.
  7. Did they reiterate to Correa not to do anything crazy? After spending a couple weeks in a boot, to protect his plantar fasciitis, it appears he has spent the last month running and beating on it. I have no doubt he will be in the lineup when the playoffs start but you have to wonder. (Well, i wonder)
  8. It turns out to be more severe than last years. Just quoting you back in to give you a chance to rethink your statement. I do agree with you that Correa and the Twins need to try resting it. Piecing together all of the scattered reports over the past month leads me to believe that Correa has not been resting, but instead testing, running and working on it this whole time, in hopes of getting back to the team. I do like this idea too. I think the Twins should absolutely trade Correa this offseason.
  9. The Twins have $91-92 committed to the five players listed here. Back of the napkin math, that will leave about 40-45 million for the other 21 players on the roster, or about 2 million per player / roster spot. Someone smarter than me can go through and do the rest of the math on what bonuses are out there due, what arb raises to expect, a Margot buyout, Dobnak’s guarantee, and so on, to get a more accurate estimate. Jeffers and Ober figure to get nice raises. Even by not bringing back Kepler, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that the Twins don’t have much money for free agents next year, not even money for cheaper guys like farmer or Santana. If they can pull off a trade like you suggest, @cmoss84 then they should absolutely do it. Start high.
  10. Hey that’s my position! 🙂
  11. Yes, the one who shall remain nameless will have to have more trust in his starters, and be willing to pitch against platoon splits, when playoffs rolls around this October. Right now the starters are lined up López/Matthews/Ober to start a wild card series Tuesday. Not bad.
  12. Durán first, tiny gap to Jax second, then a medium size gap to Alcalá and Sands. I would also throw Varland into that second group as another guy who might throw like 1 ⅔ innings across the 6th 7th or 8th, if they are going to stop using Sands that way. Andrew Miller had success with that role. I think Louie would be great in that role, someone who could take some burden off of the other guys periodically.
  13. You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means. The Twins are on pace to win 90 games—and there are nine other teams on a 90-win pace or better. Now throw in Houston and Atlanta, and that makes 12 teams. So, 12 teams out of 30. That’s 40% of the league right there. Elite.
  14. I have no doubt he will be ready for the post-season, but give it some rest maybe.
  15. So basically he is not actually resting it, but trying to do baseball on it every day, or every other day.
  16. Kudos to Betsy Helfand of the PioneerPress for providing an update yesterday. The update is that there is no update.
  17. I was a true believer in the “Pohalds are cheap” mantra during the Terry Ryan years. Turns out, as Falvey has shown us, the Pohlads weren’t cheap after all. Unless you call 6/200 for Correa cheap!
  18. Always go higher up the ladder again with another fastball in that situation! Way above the letters - up at the eyes. The worst that could happen is the count goes to 1-2.
  19. I wouldn't say Matthews struggled last night, but he certainly labored. I don't know if there's a meaningful distinction there for people or not.
  20. Rocco looks down his bench for a left handed pinch hitter, and can’t believe they were all written into the starting lineup!
  21. I mean, to show you what those guys know, they didn’t even round up to 4’ 33’’
  22. Well I was rooting for it to stay fair, since solo shots “don’t really hurt ya” (to paraphrase Bert Blyleven) 🙂
