  1. You have to take my word for this, but I called this comeback. (Only 5-3 at moment but good chance the Cubs tie it soon and might even win it). Don't get cute with pitching changes. Don't get cute with baseball. Baseball is bigger than you, Joe Maddon. Baseball is bigger than you, Bruce Bochy. Don't get cute. Just manage.
  2. He will own that forever, and deservedly so!
  3. I think if the Twins were in a postseason series right now, you write Plouffe in as the third baseman. Easily. Going forward I just don't see it. Out with the old. I am open to the idea of trading Dozier or moving Mauer to left or third, but I just don't see either happening. I think this season taught us that cutting Mauer's innings in the field will keep him fresher and more productive.
  4. "and Kevin Jepsen will come in to close this one out" "Alex Wimmers, a great story,...." "and Neil Ramirez will come in to limit the damage" Shall I go on?
  5. Democrats need to confront Republican office holders about the fact that the leader of their party is Trump, and everything he represents. Ignoring Trump and pretending he doesn't exist is exactly what the Paul Ryan types want. Maybe it all falls apart organically, maybe not. The better Democrats need to step up and try to manage this, if possible. It's too big to ignore. Hillary needs to be involved somehow. How, I do not know. Above my pay grade.
  6. Just to clarify. I only think Trump won the debate under the present day system of the two parties playing by different rules and "everything is good new for Republicans" norms. .. and also fortunately for Clinton and/or the country it makes little or no difference at this point. ymmv
  7. I believe you. That's part of why I started watching, because Trump was so ridiculous. But mostly what I saw after I started watching was Clinton swinging and missing at softball pitch moments. Just one example: Trump: "Hillary is calling my voters deplorable." What I expected Clinton to say: "Sexual assault is deplorable." What I remember her saying: "policy policy policy"
  8. With the big caveat that I did not see the opening statements or the first 20-30 minutes, I thought Trump dominated it. Being in a small room like that was probably more of Trump's environment, where he could loom over people individually. But Clinton blew it. Laughing constantly at odd moments. I thought that was an SNL generated joke, but nope. She should have been subtly reminding people that Trump is a financially bankrupt sexual predator. But again, I didn't see the beginning.
  9. It was a spit take moment when I first heard that.
  10. Honest question. What happened to Demry Croft? Why doesn't he play?
  11. I am listening.
  12. I was kinda hoping that was scored a hit, because Sano.
  13. I am still pulling for Cleveland in the AL, because Falvey I guess. Francona brings in Andrew Miller in the fifth inning last night. That's pretty cold, too. Opposite of Buck Showalter.
  14. I originally picked Cleveland in Van's original thread but changed it to the Giants. The Giants are cold blooded killers. Have I mentioned Madison Bumgarner was a serial killer in a previous life?
  15. Santana and then Rogers/O'Rourke tie for distant second. Those guys were tough on lefties and should be something to build on.
  16. Neither better nor worse. A team is either in or out. Regular season Win-Loss records are nice for other things, but don't mean anything in the postseason, which is what most players and teams are playing for.
  17. Also the things he can do with a baseball bat. I might change my vote to the Giants just to stay on his good side.
  18. Bumgarner was a serial killer in a previous life.
  19. my mistake. I do hear a lot of naysaying about it on this site though and just grouped you mistakenly. And this is a good game tonight too.
  20. Fixed it for you. The wildcard game is part of the postseason. Period. Last I checked, the Mets and Giants sent their aces out tonight. The day that the #4 and 5 seeds decide to stay home and flip a coin for it, is the day we can stop taking the wild card game seriously.
  21. I am guessing outfield defense pulled that down. None of the worst offenders like Grossman, Arcia, Sano should play a single inning out there in 2017. The starting three will have another year under their belts. Reusse is way off base when he says it will take a miracle to finish fourth next year.
  22. Sounds like a case of old school managing at its worst.
  23. Ok, so being a bench coach in Major League Baseball must be something like Disney World for adults. It's basically just fun and games for six months, and if your team wins, you get to come back and do it again next year. There is no natural right to remain a coach on a team that just finished in last place again. Maybe coaches don't have much effect on the players, but that doesn't mean I want Neil Allen warning our pitchers against falling behind 1-0 in the count, or Brunansky standing next to Molitor in the dugout barking at Buxton between pitches of his at bat. It's true that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and that Neil Allen probably isn't the source of our pitching problems, but still.
