  1. I'm so tired of plays like this being reviewed. Either team.
  2. Re Sano's called strike: To be fair, the rule book does say something about midpoint, "top of shoulders", etc.
  3. But does Phil Miller have a trained eye to judge Mejia's command...
  4. I'm gonna go broke if this keeps up... happily, happily broke.... * well not really happily
  5. I've been thrown out of bars for asking them to turn the Twins game on...
  6. Yes and DanSan was also batting .19955 on that final day, and Molitor offered to sit him so it would be .200 forever, but DanSan said, "no, coach. I'm playing."
  7. DSan must have known he wasn't long for MLB. I had my fun with it but am hoping to retire all the jokes now (no promises when it comes to teh game threads). Also, he went out with a home run in his final game here. How nice is that?
  8. Any corresponding move announced yet?
  9. Let me correct your memory. If you mean clearly one of the best things, yes. We needed bullpen help and Berrios might have helped there, in the opinion of many. Bullpen would have also mitigated the innings concern.
  10. Sweet - some eyeballs in Cedar Rapids! I hope to make that trip soon myself. Any observations on how Wells fields his position for a big guy?
  11. Wells also made his fifth start of the season earlier this evening, in a game Cedar Rapids lost in extra innings. Tonight's pitching line: 5.0 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 89 pitches. Per the MiLB game log tonight: Wells struck out the first five batters he faced; In the third inning, Wells committed a throwing error on a batted ball hit to him scored a single; Wells allowed a two-run double in the fourth, and left the bases loaded in the fifth. After 89 pitches he did not come out for the sixth. Cedar Rapids loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but the next three batters were retired. Cedar Rapids then surrendered a go-ahead run in the top of the 11th but could not rally in the bottom of the 11th. nice game summary tonight in the minor league forum
  12. Here is a capsule of Wells's performance in April: "Opponents hit just .193 (.545) off of him in April. He went just four innings in his first start, but his next three games were all quality starts. Over those three starts, he walked three and struck out 26 batters in 20 innings. The 22-year-old throws in the low-90s with a good slider and a good 12-6 curveball."
  13. Tyler Wells is a right-handed starting pitcher who began 2017 at Class A affiliate Cedar Rapids. Wells was drafted in the 15th round of the 2016 draft, after his junior year at Cal-State San Bernardino. Looking at his college stats, he appears to have really developed from his freshman year to his junior year. For example, his BB:SO ratio went from 23:28 in 46 innings his first year, to 38:89 in 92 innings his third year. However, he also says he learned a lot his first pro season at Elizabethton also. Despite his 6' 8" height and size, which writer Tom Froemming described as "cap tilted low and just looks kinda ornery," Wells seems very coachable and down to earth. More at the Q & A with Seth Stohs here.
  14. That's fair. Just a nitpick of mine.
  15. You sure those are the same people doing all tthe screaming? I tend to see different posters taking different positions.
  16. 3. Didn't Molitor flat out say that Berrios needed to be stretched out? That is completely different than you having an IT project blow up in your face. They are moving the goalposts on this kid. I will bet there is a point at which a pitcher like Berrios can throw too many innings at AAA before he is at some kind of risk, and it sure feels like the Twins are testing it that. All for a Nick Tepesch start..or two or three. Because if Tepesch "pitches well" on Saturday.........
  17. ok, but back to Berrios, the coaches are saying they are concerned he doesn't have command. Well what is the best way to gauge his command? Why the heck did the coaches leave Berrios in for 8 innings his last start if he didn't have command or wasn't working on what the coaches asked of him? What is Berrios supposed to do next time out?
  18. You knew that the whole time, didn't you... http://www.reactiongifs.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/nodding_clint_eastwood.gif
  19. Sano is much improved this year, but let's keep the 9th inning ground balls to him to a minimum.
  20. No worries. Breslow is warming in the pen.
  21. C'mon Kintzler. You have to bring this one home for Ashburyjohn, remember.
  22. Heh, I find myself agreeing with you there.
