  1. Kershaw, Koufax, Hershiser, Drysdale, all warming in the pen
  2. Who wins a footrace: McCann, Mauer, or Mathew Lecroy?
  3. This game is making the 10-inning, five hour game look like a speedy pitchers duel, but I am in it for the long haul
  4. My econ textbook says most of that candy will trickle down to the other kids.
  5. Nice story--basically a group of middle aged men ruining the life of a disabled young girl. Tonight, a story in Tennessee of a group of nazis roughing up a white women for sitting at a table with a black man. Lots of sick people in this country. More than I ever would have thought.
  6. On second thought, what I meant was that a lot of gun owners are single issue voters. Just my opinion.... based on people I've known. And while I'm backpedaling, that doesn't necessarily contradict the idea that the vast majority of guns might be owned by Trump voters.
  7. Guns are not a partisan issue.
  8. What was this one after the 9th inning, something between 4:55 to 4:58?
  9. For nine inning games, I draw the line at 5 hours.
  10. Unrelated football question: If the NFL, NCAA or whoever wants to protect quarterbacks and generate offense, why not get rid of some of the silly penalties, like illegal grounding, illegal offensive formations, etc? Why should the quarterback get to throw an incomplete pass when he wants? Think about it. Less penalties, more advantage to the offense.
  11. Heard a lot of it driving on the radio. Sounds like lots of flat-out dropped passes. I saw the last futile drive he had decent pocket presence but the Iowa rush was too strong, maybe. There was a low sideline pass that would have been a first down but the receiver couldn't corral it. Not a bad pass but a hard catch for a college player. Probably someone else will chime in here with some good thoughts. Edit: that is still a horrible line and I don't want to make excuses
  12. Being cynical of government - really going out on a limb, aren't I?
  13. I'm not going to pretend to solve cases or guess motives (I think 9/11 conspiracy theorists look ridiculous), but I'm pretty cynical when it comes to what government officials tell me, particularly those of that period (in readings after the fact, as I wasn't around just yet). I have no idea what more was going on with the Kennedy assassination, probably nothing, but it all seems a little too tidy. Obviously, being skeptical of conspiracy theorists is healthy, too.
  14. Mission accomplished.
  15. Who are the FA starters after 2018? I ask because I have no idea (I'm sure there's a thread so apologies in advance). Those guys might be the guys to target in trades.
  16. Humbly I disagree with this guy. I think Rosario or Kepler would be a key piece in a trade for a valuable starter. Not that I want either of them to depart.
  17. Sorry I missed that one too!
  18. I don't consider trading Nick Gordon and a top minor league arm to be gutting the system. There are good shortstops coming behind Gordon and arms are unpredictable. I also wonder how pessimistic people are of Falvey's ability to build a farm system, that we can't part with a good minor leaguer or two.
  19. Cobb is good but has been snake bit trying to make it through a full season. Not to rehash a debate, but trading two top prospects and paying three arb years for Sonny Gray seemed like a much better deal than waiting for this offseason to sign a Cobb for 4/50-60. Which is to say I think a trade will happen this offseason.
  20. If starting pitchers were like canned vegetables, then yeah the Twins could "go out and get another" Ervin Santana every year. Or better yet, two Mike Pelfreys for the price of one Ervin Santana, because 2 > 1
  21. I don't think the new FO should kick the can down the road until there's a new tv deal, but maybe that's what they agreed to do for the ownership.
  22. My bigger concern is that this trade deadline was a great opportunity to get starting pitching locked up for multiple years, if not Verlander then Gray or Quintana, but there wasn't much of a rumor about them having any interest in any of those guys.
  23. Get the best players in FA?
  24. I agree with all of that.
  25. Maybe at the same link where he said 'Yes, Houston is on my list' All I remember about Verlander's personal feelings on it is that he didn't want to be traded, but that he was willing to waive his no trade clause to go to a team in the postseason. That was construed as Verlander specifically not wanting to play in Minnesota.
