  1. I was hoping your reply had a link to where Verlander said "I do not want to play in Minnesota"
  2. Do we really know that Verlander did not want to come here? He let it be known he would waive his clause for an opportunity to pitch in the postseason. I get it. But it's not the same thing as him saying he didn't want to come to Minnesota.
  3. disaster averted
  4. Thanks for clarifying, and that's fair. When it was rumored that Verlander was available, my hope was that Nick Gordon and two of our top MiLB pitchers (not sure which) might be attractive enough (setting aside the no-trade clause issue). Maybe also Garver or Granite ILO one of those named above. At this point we can never know.
  5. I think the poster who mentioned the names Buxton and Berrios only did so to refute a point from another poster that the Twins didn't have any pieces to interest Detroit. At least that's how I read it. I didn't see anyone on this thread suggesting that would be a reasonable cost, because you are correct, it is not. I think if even ONE of those guys was part of an offer for Verlander, I think Verlander would have been a Twin faster than you can say Wild Card.
  6. Lots of people said he wasn't even any good anymore, so I get energized too. Anyway it's a damn message board maybe its time i let it go. Let's see what the whiz kids can do in terms of pitching this offseason. We'll be watching.
  7. No offense, but this is what makes your side look unserious in this discussion. I cannot think of a better way to spend 40 million the next two years than on a Cy Young pitcher still near his peak with something to prove. Guys like this don't hit the trade market every day, and the Twins sat it out.
  8. Links please Doesn't hurt to repost them It was also reported that the Tigers were shopping Verlander long before the trade deadlines and long before he was actually traded. Wouldn't have hurt to start a discussion with the Tigers.
  9. Yeah, this would have been a great fit two years ago. Congrats to him.
  10. I love the idea of four 8-team divisions. It harkens back to the true pennant races which I am not old enough to remember. the top team could be the winner with four wildcards per league (two one game playoffs to determine 1-4 2-3 seed second round matchups). Alas it will never happen, because $$$$$
  11. I am lockstep with you *high five* I think in a perfect world, a west Canada city and Havana and Puerto Rico are considered for new franchises. There are a couple of franchises that should relocate at this point (looking at you, Tampa). But maybe Nashville is a good candidate market for a new southern team as others said up thread. Don't know. But mostly I'm a No to expansion.
  12. Yankees stadium is rocking
  13. Also, welcome to Twins Daily, Mr. Manuel!
  14. As others said, talent will be diluted. You might also find that longer games have accompanied prior MLB expansions, if so, maybe lesser pitching talent is a factor there, not sure. Maybe Manfred is already bored with his pet issue of shortening games.
  15. I'd hate to think about what he said of my little home town - not even gonna try to Google it
  16. I fully believe the FO needs to bite down on the bullet and trade a player with real value for some pitching. That could have happened at the deadline this summer; it didn't, so it needs to happen this winter.
  17. And in the end, he lost the game. I am shocked more pitchers don't work more quickly and assert control of the game that way.
  18. I'm not sure "clear" is the right word (unless I missed something, very possible). It's likely Verlander would have waived his clause to go to Houston preferable to Minny, but it's even more likely that the Twins didn't lift a finger to find out if he was even interested.
  19. Hard to believe some of those posts in your other thread even happened
  20. Also pulling for Houston. Nice outing by Verlander today. But wait til Houston finds out what a terrible mistake they made trading for good starting pitching at the deadline. Oh man are they going to feel stupid
  21. For one, it's a new political environment. Granted it's Trump and no one will come out winners, but it feels so stale to keep seeing those same names year after year.
  22. i wonder what the chances are of those two stepping down and Democrats calling for a re-vote
  23. What would the process be for removing Pelosi and Schumer from leadership?
  24. Nine inning Yankees-Indians game referenced in the original post: 3:38 Nine inning game last night: 4:37
