  1. Troubling story out of Alabama tonight, where a local teenager a former Supreme Court justice gets banned from the shopping mall. No more Orange Julius for you! https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/locals-were-troubled-by-roy-moores-interactions-with-teen-girls-at-the-gadsden-mall And he's been running on morals and religion his whole life. How low can Republicans go? The answer is: there is no bottom. It's a shameless, bottomless, pit with these people--and with the office holders who enable them. If lives weren't at stake it would be great comedy.
  2. Good question. What are your thoughts? For starters, I think the old guard needs to swallow their pride and step aside, no more campaigning, endorsements, nothing. (Looking at you, Biden. Is he still lingering?) as for 2020, I think the Democratic Party needs someone young and from the south, like Bill in 1992. Completely new people.
  3. It's just a matter of opinion, doomtints. I hope they really are working hard on important issues and I hope you are right.
  4. I would lean toward option C, and a trade. A nine-figure contract to Darvish or Arrieta feels like a question mark even now, to say nothing of two years from now. Peering into next offseason, I doubt Kershaw leaves LA, and Keuchel will have every team bidding on him. Our next big pitcher contract might be Berrios, and I'm ok with that. But they need to get pitching.
  5. I don't think the bigger story is about coal v. wind any more than it is about auto manufacturing or mining or whatever. I am reading this as an abandonment of rural America. Part of the solution IMO is for the Democratic Party to close up shop and all the big Democratic names to quietly disappear. More realistically, better people need to run for these offices, like you said. Maybe run as independents.
  6. I don't know much wind, how it came to that area, or if this is about wind. I don't know what Murtha did exactly for that particular area. I don't even really disagree with you, I just think it's the wrong approach. Basically older people like that have been left out there to die, in a not-so-figurative sense. Republicans have at least identified the problem for them, even though it's a lie.
  7. with all due respect, I think your response is a swing and a miss I agree with you in some ways, but this area in the article could be many, many areas anywhere else. I don't know what The Answer is, but I do know that party politicians do not give a sh*t what happens to that town, but at least Republicans pretend to care or know the cause. That's my own opinion and that's what came through to me from the people interviewed in the story. Another thing that occurred to me was if a cost analysis could be done on subsidizing that cafe, versus opening a social security benefits office across the street.
  8. I will add that these were local elections. In my opinion, Republicans will be better able to nationalize the 2018 election, in other words, run against Nancy Pelosi, Al Sharpton, et al. Those types of folks are red meat for the Republican base and will juice turnout.
  9. I'm not sure how different he will be from Harris, but I hope he does well.
  10. St. Paul elects first black mayor.
  11. Call the shooter evil, and call it a day. That seems to be the official response lately. Also, thoughts and prayers. Never forget thoughts and prayers.
  12. The dollar value does matter to the Rays (I think). They expect Cobb to receive $50 million, which will qualify them for the compensation pick between the 1st and 2nd round. Here is a link about Cobb's QO from the Ray's perspective. https://www.draysbay.com/2017/10/3/16411606/alex-cobb-qualifying-offer-tampa-bay-rays
  13. I am optimistic the team will compete again in 2018, less optimistic they will sign a significant pitcher (or trade for one with a significant contract).
  14. I don't know what Cobb's market is, but hypothetically which would you prefer for the Twins-- Cobb signed for 4/48 (est per MLBTR) or Cobb signed for, say, 3/44?
  15. I am bullish on Berrios, and I think he has an outside shot to be the #1 we are all hoping to see.
  16. As far as Alex Cobb specifically, here is an article that is sure to confuse and delight the reader: https://www.draysbay.com/2017/10/3/16411606/alex-cobb-qualifying-offer-tampa-bay-rays
  17. I am starting to like the idea of Cobb signing here. That seems like a good contract.
  18. We could make Lecroy carry the equipment bag, to make it fairer?
  19. Was that a loogy sighting?
  20. McCullors out Expect Keuchel and Verlander to pitch into the late innings maybe? For the record, I think it's a little foolish to take McCullors out so early, but maybe the Astros know something.
  21. Does Bellinger always swing like that? ugly
  22. agree, and we'll need to speak out against having Santana Berrios or Darvish pitch at all in the postseason for next years World Series run
  23. Was Bregman on anyone's radar as a top third baseman. Not here. .Though he was a 1-2 pick a couple years ago so maybe prospect followers know him well
  24. oh, and wait for it.... most dangerous lead in baseball!
