  1. In general and depending on matchup, I think Escobar is a much better option than Adrianza. Both will be starting for as long as Sano is suspended.
  2. There's the rub. There's no shortage of people who want to be minor league baseball players.
  3. I second that. Some of these one-year contracts this season have a faint whiff of the old reserve clause system.
  4. Let's get started! Here is my Phil Hughes bingo card for today: - wind was blowing out - Poor fielding behind him - still injured - was working on change up grip - on an 0-2 pitch - spring stats don't matte------- Oh, Hughes pitched yesterday? Gues i am a little rusty...
  5. Maybe if you see the ads enough times you will start to come around?
  6. That sounds really, really equal, but there's one more thing you need to consider: the "pending physical." When Ben Noble and I did our trade, he had to intentionally fail his physical because he knew I had no shot to pass mine
  7. I credit the Ryan regime for finding this current corps of talent; this group is very capable of winning the whole thing. On the other hand, it would have been out of character for Ryan to cut Plouffe or buy out Perkins, and those types of moves are also necessary to winning.
  8. because prices on free agents are dropping right now
  9. I'm on board, but that is another conversation, given that the Twins play in Puerto Rico (Berrios's home) in mid April but the Opening Day starter would not be lined up to pitch in that series... hey lets start a new thread
  10. Who is this Falvey, and what is he doing to my beloved Twins
  11. True, but I would submit that that pitch is too nasty to adjust to. McCullors can mix that pitch with his straight two-seam (his old grip and less roll off the middle finger) and batters won't know which one is coming. Nobody ever really adjusts to the best pitchers, and McCullors might be poised to be one. The best AL hitters can hope for is he loses his feel for it when they are facing him.
  12. The spin and speed of a fastball, the break of a curve. Hitters have no chance. That pitch to Adrianza was Maddux-ian.
  13. Also, drafting a sure-miss QB with a top pick every 4 or 5 years
  14. I call shenanigans, and anyway, nothing is official because "pending a physical"
  15. I will select David Banuelos also, a trade may be announced shortly
  16. In the same vein, MLB had an article recently about Buxton's base stealing https://www.mlb.com/news/its-tough-to-slow-twins-byron-buxton-down/c-266538192
  17. Landon Leach, and at 12:01 AM tomorrow can I have Tyler Wells again?
  18. We're told Pressly, Mejia, and now Bard and Gonsalves, all have elite spin rates. Not sure how excited I'm supposed to be about spin rates anymore.
  19. Also, sort of ironic that since Grossman made those comments, he has mysteriously been getting a lot of at bats. Word travels fast, eh?
  20. Grossman is a great fit for this team. The Twins use Grossman to platoon in RF versus lefties, and then is substituted with Kepler later on, if necessary. If Grossman can get his platoon splits looking more like they were in 2016, he'll be a key bench piece.
  21. In my humble opinion I think you are misreading the situation. I heard that comment also and I don't think Grossman sounded cocky or lackadaisical at all. That's kind of how he is. Like others have said, pitchers need spring training more than the hitters. The way playing time is divvied up in spring, 10 at bats (or thereabouts) may mean two weeks' worth of games. That could be Grossman's way of saying he's ready by mid-March, which doesn't sound so far-fetched. And actually, Gladden did circle back a couple innings later to say "no way a player only needs 10 at bats"
  22. The Twins look like they are strong up the middle, but they will miss Dozier when he is gone. I hope he gets all the money in the world.
  23. Not acceptable, just predictable and maybe even understandable. He had never been tested this way before. Like the above poster said, seems like scapegoating the guy is a good way to divert from the issue. Hey, maybe the video should be made public, so we can all get a really good look at what happened.
