  1. I hoped Colabello might get one last look. This decision must be his "pat on the shoulder."
  2. Agree. I could feel comfortable rolling into next year without a major signing of a position player. Wouldn't it be nice if Mauer came out and said "yeah, I feel I've improved at first base, but I'd be willing to give left field a try. I love a challenge and left field is where I always hit the ball anyway, so maybe I'll learn something new."
  3. The best plan for Pinto at this point is to let him just be the backup. I've seen zero from Fryer. However it seems to me like native spanish speaking catchers fall out of favor when they reach the Twins big club. Morales, Ramos, now Pinto. That's the best explanation I got.
  4. I think this is basically correct. Buxton especially. The Twins not necessarily not the unluckiest, and that is not the claim you are making. I think the top 3 minor league prospects all suffered some sort of horrid injury of late. So other teams are set back too. But if someone actually did some groundwork I'd bet we'd find the Twins were in the unluckiest 10 or 20 percent though.
  5. Definitely too early to panic. The Royals lineup is underrated and makes good contact, as you said. On other forums I read that the point of the Twins leaving Meyer and May in the minors so long was that they would be good and seasoned when they finally were called up - who knows. I'd really like to see Suzuki catch his next start.
  6. Yeah I'd tend to believe someone else is telling Arcia to just be himself, thus Arcia passing that along to Vargas.
  7. Bump. I love these gifs even if it's just four pitches (SSS alert) which I think is acknowledged - great job, Nick
  8. I liked it too - I was wondering why Mornie was sounding so Spock-like. also, typical of Mauer to kill the mood. Very nice edit there..
  9. Congrats for getting out ahead of this story in 2012. With the benefit of an MLB-affiliated minor league development track, Colabello might have had a nice career as a very good major league hitter. He might still get another call up in September.
  10. Gotcha. Obviously the best scenario is that he rebounds next year and in future years.
  11. I was honestly warming to the idea of keeping Willingham. I mean the guys hitting a game winning HR every couple weeks or so.
  12. Regarding Mauer, it may be hard to see a scenario where he's not with the team through 2018, but it's also hard to see a scenario where he IS with the team through 2018. Honestly, not to knock him, but you just wonder at that contract, his skills as a hitter (hitting singles and drawing bases on balls) and the possibility that even playing first base he's going to miss a month or two of every season. Sano and Vargas have both been discussed as first base candidates, not to mention some lower level guys in the system who play first. I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins try to rework that contract or redefine his role, with all possibilities on the table. Just a feeling.
  13. Jordan Schafer might soon be the answer to the trivia question: Who is the only Twin to have started in every game since August 5th.
  14. Luckily, bird watcher, the ikelihood is very remote that Diamond will pitch in the majors this year. I appreciate that there are defenders of this coaching regime, but good or bad these coaches have overstayed their welcome. Also, I ask you, by what measure Liriano is "stinking up the joint again" this year? It's closer to the truth to say that the Cincinnati Reds have five starting pitchers that would put Gibson and Hughes to shame, than to say that Liriano is having a horrible year.
  15. Then I stand corrected... unfortunately! (and Antony should know of which he speaks.. what a huge jump going from asst. GM puttering around in the background, to suddenly being the guy in charge)
  16. There was an article/thread back in April on this same topic. Predicting when Meyer will make his debut. Unfortunately the comments are lost. I doubt anyone would have predicted that if Meyer pitched well all year, stayed healthy, and did all the right things, that he would make his debut... not this year at all.
  17. Fixed it for you. You obviously aren't from around here, are you.
  18. Sconnie, I actually think the right manager could come on board and instantly make this team a contender. Somehow Tom Kelly did it, and you see it just about every year, a losing team makes a playoff run. Granted the current Twins still do not have the horses to make a serious bid at a World Series championship, but just about anything can happen in the playoffs. Now to contradict my last sentence by 180 degrees, I will say I don't think the Twins are likely to ever win another playoff series under Gardenhire. Basically, Gardy's disregard for statistics will always leave the Twins unprepared against most any team they are likely to encounter. Which is not to say Gardy is a bad manager - I think he does certain things well, and people (me for example) sometimes underestimate how alert he is to what's going on on the field. I will save the rest of my praise for him until his retirement party though. jtkoupal, thanks for your support. Many Minnesota natives feel the same as you and are ready to move on into the future.
  19. A six man rotation could be the answer for a while. We have a lot of healthy guys who can make a case to be starting. Only thing is getting Meyer's starts in August before his inning quota. Or bullpen. I wouldn't mind seeing Meyer debut in a tie game in the 7th or 8th either -- a high pressure situation but without any postseason positioning at stake.
  20. Vargas made it. I disagree on Hicks. For whatever reason, him and Gardy just do not mix. Or maybe it's Antony or the other coaches. Or maybe even Hicks's own teammates. Whatever, it would instantly become a distraction if Hicks came back on and even in a sub .500 season I'd prefer not to be audience to that. That might mean dealing Hicks in the offseason if the Twins decide to keep their coaches yet another year.
  21. Good point John. Willingham might fit in Oakland now. I wouldn't be surprised if Suzuki or Willingham stay put though. They like it here and the Twins players want to stick together and finish strong this year. I'm actually on board with this idea though the FO will be skewered for it.
  22. I can also see success without Mauer, or a less prominent Mauer (batting sixth for example).
  23. So, only your best tirades make it to print Well tirades are what the Twins need to be hearing IMO...
