  1. If you had used one in the earlier innings, instead of saving them, maybe the outcome of the game would have been different?
  2. But I presume he was warming up before coming in, and then threw his warmup tosses when he entered the game, and his outing might have gone longer, so I think the poster makes a good point. But you are right he will be available tonight.
  3. Stinker tonight. Unlike the front office, I have not chiseled Colon's name in stone to finish the season.
  4. You are right, this is not the place to rant against a flawed statistic.
  5. With all due respect, this is a contradictory statement. I looked at his game logs. He has not run into any trouble. He has been the same weak contact ground ball machine in Washington that he was here. I would buy the FIP stat here if it was, say, 0.50, or something below 1. But his FIP with Washington is currently 2.85, so I can't buy it. I don't know which outing those two theoretical runs came from.
  6. Not sure if you're dissing me, or the stat If the point is to reflect a true ERA, then FIP should reflect the ERA, as it is, even in minimal amounts. Kintzler has not come remotely close to allowing a run to score (at least by reading the box score), yet FIP says that two runs should have scored off him by now.
  7. Kintzler update: Leaving aside the buy v. sell debate, Kintzler is 2-0, with a 0.00 ERA in 7 appearances with Washington. However, his FIP is 2.85 I half-way understand the concepts of BIP, sequencing, etc., but even in small samples shouldn't FIP at least nominally reflect ERA, or what is actually happening on the field? Carry on.
  8. I think teams have something on Berrios. The Twins need to identify what that is.
  9. It's second guessing but too bad Molitor didn't pinch run for Sano at some point last night for the purpose of getting his bat out of the lineup. I don't see anything wrong with that double play; Sano looked home but threw to first in the same motion. There was a millisecond delay but maybe Sano was just getting a good grip. The guy on the radio made it sound like Sano was frozen undecided about where to throw while runners circled the bases behind him. Wasted opportunity in the 9th, no doubt. Game felt over after that strikeout. Interesting call by Molitor Sunday to judge that Mauer needs a day off today more than Sano does. Also, what did Jason Castro say to Berrios on that trip to the mound in the first inning? The next pitch was the grand slam!
  10. I don't think anyone has the illusion that Vargas is the next Big Papi anymore, but I think Vargas would be an ideal bench player. To back up Mauer competently, and take some at bats occasionally. True, no position flexibility, but Fangraphs actually likes Vargas in the field, for what that's worth. Vargas is probably not on the team next year but he can still help this year more than the 8th relief guy.
  11. Next, you were going to say: "and if Aitch can't pitch, I would be willing to step in."
  12. I think I would rather have Kintzler back for August and September this season, than anything Tyler Watson might give us in the future. (No offense, Tyler.)
  13. This doesn't even get to how many strikes are wasted with foul bunts or the plate appearances that end in a different result after the sac bunt attempt is cancelled.
  14. Kintzler so far with the Nats: 4 appearances, 15 batters faced, 0 runs, 1 hit allowed, 2 wins
  15. Bravo Rosario. The nearest infielder was where, behind second? Shifting for Jason Castro with two outs. Managers get too cute sometimes.
  16. If he's been following the Twins, his bones have ground to dust by now
  17. Sarcasm here? Welcome to the dark side, Doc!
  18. It's a little of both (or a lot of both, in this case). The players collapsed by themselves just fine in late July, but a trade for a starter a little but sooner (Garcia?) would have preceded the collapse.
