  1. Who still thinks Sano can't play 3rd base?
  2. Nice stolen base, but does anyone know why Nunez refuses to wear a proper fitting helmet?
  3. Arcia has definitely had some clutch hits and Nolasco is having a solid start to the season. I just thought I'd mention that Mauer and Nunez are both having a really good start to the season as well. Great to see.
  4. We've seen Sano make more than one play. His strengths and weaknesses at 3rd base and RF are not secret.
  5. Please. Did you watch the game today? Nationals player bunts, Sano charges, bare hands it and guns the guy out. He is competent at the position. It's not that he isn't very good at 3rd base, it's that they already have an established 3rd baseman in Plouffe.
  6. Buxton is obviously an excellent talent. He can cover a lot of ground in the outfield and can run the bases as fast as anyone. However, he is still very young and his hitting isn't at the Major League level yet. It's just going to take some more time for him to develop into a Major League hitter.
  7. Everyone is right to a degree. Dozier's play did fall off towards the end of 2015. He did have a very good spring training this year and yes it's also true that his regular season numbers this year are not good enough. However, we all have a choice. We can panic now or be patient and give it more time. I do not believe it's time to panic yet. If his numbers are still this bad when June/July roll around, then there may be cause for concern. But in the middle of April? No.
  8. Anybody else a bit suspicious about KC beaning the two Twins hitters that the Royals couldn't get out today? Mauer goes 3 for 3 and gets beaned in the knee cap. Nunez goes 4 for 4 and gets beaned in the arm. Not sayin', just sayin..
  9. The ball looked quite a bit outside live, but apparently the ball went over the plate? Is that box strike zone accurate?
  10. 1 hit over the first 4 innings, I'd say Nolasco is pitching a great game so far. Park looks comfortable at first base. Rosario in the 2 hole? I don't think Molitor reads TD. I hope the Twins start seeing the ball better soon. After a long spring training, one would hope that the hitters would be a bit further ahead in terms of identifying balls and strikes at the very least. And secondly, making contact with fastballs over the plate.
  11. Milone is pitching great today, so far!
  12. Watching Twins players swing and miss fast balls over the plate is frustrating.
  13. Royals are smart. They scheduled batting practice during a regular season game.
  14. Fastball down the middle should be sitting in the left field seats right now.
  15. With the way Escobar has been playing, I was thinking that it wouldn't hurt to give him an opportunity to bat higher in the line up? I get why they have Santana in the 2 spot today (speed + .500 batting average). But what about Escobar? If he keeps driving the ball, perhaps the Twins should promote him to the 1 or 2 spot depending on how things are going. For instance, Dozier has been cold has a cucumber. Wouldn't Santana-Escobar-Mauer be a decent starting 3 today? Buxton-Escobar-Mauer could be good if / when Buxton gets his bat going Dozier-Escobar-Mauer could be good if / when Dozier gets his bat going Buxton-Dozier-Mauer could be good if / when Buxton and Dozier both get thier bats going Not saying that you put Escobar there and leave him there for the rest of his career. I'm just saying that perhaps if he's driving the ball, give him an opportunity to play a bigger role in the first inning. And the reasoning is simple: This guy has taken over SS when he got the opportunity, and he did so while hitting the ball. It seems like he's the kind of guy who thrives, when given opportunities. Thoughts?
  16. In my opinion, the reason(s) why a player would want to hit the ball hard (normal swing) with a runner on 3rd and 0 outs, are pretty obvious. a) The player isn't necessarily trying to hit a home run, but if it is hit to the outfield (e.g. fly ball), a hard hit ball is more likely to be deeper in the outfield and give the runner a better chance at scoring. On a line drive to the outfield, it has a higher chance of landing. Any infield hit will in theory be harder and thus make it more difficult for the infielders to get to, thus increasing the chances of scoring the runner from third. If Dozier it's the ball 102mph between infielders, nobody is getting it. However, if it's a 72mpg bouncer, it allows the infielders more time to field the ball. Perhaps the runner still scores, but it's a a guarantee the runner scores if it gets by the fielders into the outfield. As for Dozier specifically, I do recall him bunting over a runner to 3rd base from 2nd base the other day, so he's not always going up there hacking away. I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing out there. It's just a matter of determining the risk/reward of each decision.
  17. Rosario is such a beast. If he doesn't lose his footing and throws on a rope or with less than 3 bounces, he's out.
  18. I understand your point, but how many pick off attempts to 3rd have you seen? Sometimes you get lucky and can catch someone napping who isn't expecting a throw over.
  19. No look catch by Sano..
  20. It's not about feeling like someone is trying to steal home, it's about trying to get the 3rd out of the inning from a base runner, which the pitcher feels he has a chance of picking off.
  21. The downside of metal cleats..
  22. Good effort by Sano, but with the late jump, he definitely should have played that ball differently. Not writing him off yet as we all knew he'd make mistakes. It's a part of the learning process. It's game two. If he's still making these kinds of decisions in September, then we should be more concerned.
  23. I couldn't agree with you more. I have no problem with Sano spending a couple of weeks at home before spring training. It's a very long season and he's only 22. From a baseball point of view, Sano is the type of talent Twins fans have been wanting for a long time. This guy has the potential to be everything David Ortiz is and possibly more. From a personality standpoint. He seems like he has a good personality and is always smiling. Seems like a good clubhouse guy. From a behavioral standpoint, Sano has done nothing wrong here. Writing a "cheap shot" article (credit DaveW) as a means to support strong arm tactics used by the organization as a means to control a player is something I will NOT support. Sano has rights and responsibilities just like everyone else. As far as I know, he has exercised his rights accordingly (e.g. to be wherever he wants to be in the world before spring training and to spend that time with who he wishes aka his family and friends). Sano has no obligation to be in Fort Myers 2 weeks before spring training and he has no obligation to be X pounds on day 1 of spring training unless it states such a weight in his contract. If the Twins want something more out of Sano, put it in his contract and compensate him accordingly. I support Sano here. I think he's a good person with good character, a good player, and I hope he has a long successful HOF career with the Minnesota Twins.
  24. It wasn't just that one tweet. It was multiple tweets / sources. When you consider that tweet, plus the fact that he was still proudly wearing his dodgers hat out in public after signing / playing with the Twins and then if I recall correctly he posted something or replied to a fan something along the lines of that he can't wait to get back home or can't wait to get back to California or something along those lines. It's been a while now, so I forget how it was worded. And I haven't even been reading his tweets over the last year or so. I'm sure there's more evidence out there. The point is, when you read any other Twins players' tweets they are proud to be a Twin or are talking about winning as a Twin or hanging out with other Twins players etc.. When I read his, he always seemed like he at best only had one of his baby toes in the organization. I just never got the feeling that he's really embraced being a Twin. Then when these articles / threads on here pop up about his current attitude / state of mind / level of play, well hello! It doesn't surprise me at all. Deny Deny Deny all you want, but for me this has all been way too predictable.
  25. I believe I have posted this in the past, but based on my observations of his twitter posts ever since he signed with the Twins, I always got the feeling that Nolasco's heart really isn't in Minnesota. I don't think he really wanted to come to Minnesota, he just signed because of the money the Twins offered him. You can refute that all you want (e.g. say that many players sign the biggest contracts they are offered), but he's the only Twins player that I've gotten that vibe from. This isn't new, I've felt this way for the last couple of years. I just never got the feeling that he's ever really been happy in Minnesota. So this news really doesn't surprise me at all.
