    It's still 80 degrees in Cleveland, so I wonder when Tito pulls the plug on this and runs out his bench to rest the starters?

    There is a rule and it says 10 runs, no restrictions. It was considered and this is the primary case for it: the situation where a team is coming off a tough series and rolling into a tougher division series with a tired pen. It was discussed and a team is allowed to give up after yielding a ten run gap.

    Gallo always struck me as a really good softball guy. Good to see him reaping Cleveland's bitter harvest.

    CLE has to win one or two of these, and wasting a single relief inning on a 12-1 loser is a mistake. It takes some courage to throw in the towel on a game this early so I don't care who is out there right now..

    It'd be fun to get the three consecutive granny thing a week after missing it.

    If Farmer started at SS for the next three weeks his numbers would drop. So far Rocco's been spot starting him where it looks like he'll have an advantage. But starting every day means him facing more righties, more tough pitchers, fewer selected match-ups. And just clarify the WAR thing, Correa and Farmer have .702 and .704 OPS right now (..307/.395 vs .310/.394 obp/slg) so not a huge offensive difference other than the massive number of GDP, which you'd kind of expect from a guy who has been fight plantar fasciitis most of the season.

    The Twins do very much have a chance to do things: they have good starting pitching, enough decent hitters that a post-season hot streak is quite conceivable, and three or four good relievers. What they need is one more arm and and some luck in October, and there are a couple candidates in this group that could fill that bullpen role down the stretch.

    Yeah, when you're wearing the armor the real vulnerable points are the exposed bone areas like hands, feet and knees. Meat bruises and heals, but Buxton's ribs and Altuve's hand aren't as elastic.

    It's already happening. So far in the past couple weeks they have sent Ryan, Ober, Castro and Buxton to the IL and I expect more are coming.

    If you don't like the results the top free agent SS are producing this year I should tell you to not look into how the top free agent starting pitchers are doing. Last time I checked I think there was one on some list of the top 50 free agents who had taken the ball all season and had an ERA under 4.00. The rest were all terrible and/or injured. Big free agents can be awesome but are frequently being paid for work done in their younger years. That's why the team options and vesting built into Correa's contract are so important.

    Baseball has a much longer seasons with more travel and time together than other sports. Teams with good and bad vibes have had great and terrible results over the past 130 years so nothing is certain, but it's hard to hide from an utter jerk over the course of eight months of being together almost daily, over half the time away from home.

    The world is not black and white, however much it would simplify posting on the internet. These guys are all very competitive and want to play, to contribute in big games, to be The Man in The Moment. He's not making excuses, he's taking the field and giving what he has. If the team thought they'd be better with him off the field he'd be next to Buxton on the couch with an ice pack. Right now they have a decent division lead and are starting to rotate guys through the IL to get them rested before October and I fully expect Correa to get a turn just like Buxton and Ober and Ryan and Castro.

    Amen: look at those 4 seamers in the mid-90s. And the graph below shows how Wallner is taking away inside pitches with his shoulder, elbow and foot. Nice article.

    I'm not sure other teams will be pissed any more than if they'd been traded for in July or gathered off waivers in earlier years. Teams can see the spots that the Angels are in and can picture the Why of these moves, and they can see the spot the Marlins are in and can see why they'd grab more than one of these guys. Players move within the scope of the rules every year and there's very little complaining. I think when FRod was able to be added to the 40 man for the playoffs as a rookie it blew up a little, but that sort of things only happens once every ten years. On the other hand I do like the Free Puppies image.

    Kepler's second half performance has as little to do with Donaldson as his first half performance. That is, Donaldson hasn't been relevant in this clubhouse in almost two years and Max has his transcendent moment five weeks ago. You want to write something relevant figure out what happened over the all star break.

    The offense stiffened up and stayed in the game, Winder salvaged the bullpen rep after a bad week, good win. Glad to see the boys pick up Lopez on the rare off night.
