  1. I hope Santana stays with three young Latin arms projected to be in the rotation next season.
  2. I don't disagree for the most part. I'd have moved him to AAA a month ago. My post was specifically rebuttal to posts I've seen assuming to already know what we have. I hope the FO knows, but then again, they have him in AA.
  3. 51 of 98 for strikes against minor leaguers, and posters are claiming Gonsalves is already better than Gibby, Hector, Colon, and Mejia. You won't make it through 3 big league innings doing that.
  4. He may have ruined Presley last year, May the year before...
  5. Belisle has been good to great when rested. Poor to batting practice when tired. Now he is warming for 2nd or third night straight? Motor doesn't learn.
  6. Amen bro. Haley had more leash than most and earned less. For instance, Tonkin has been nigh unhittable on aaa again. Fool me 11 times...
  7. Really? They're 64 and 32. .66 win %. That's 111 wins. They're very good. But that's a tough pace to maintain for 162 and still have anything left for the playoffs. Twins have a decently talented club. Young and very capable of catching fire for several weeks.
  8. Last time I checked, they still use win/loss record to determine playoff participants. Not base runs, pythag, or team war. That may have something to do with it. I like the conflicting opinions. Makes things interesting. Plus both sides can be right. Eg,torii Hunter. "He's old and his numbers are declining" "He's a veteran holding the young guys accountable and providing leadership." Both were right.
  9. Twins have left the second most runners on base and 3rd most in scoring position. Run differential should tighten up.
  10. You act like this team can't improve between now and October, but base your argument for selling on the fact that this young team can only get better... This team can improve. Mejia is a rookie, Berrios 2nd year, Gibson showing signs of life. Santiago capable of getting hot. We have a few arms in waiting. Dozier hasn't gotten hot yet. How many more years do you expect Sano to be passable at 3rd? How many years is Buxton elite in center? Think we'll luck into another all star closer? I'm also pretty sure the stros can't keep up their level of play.
  11. That's right. I forgot they added him. Sort of assumed he want since Jorge got the call before he did.
  12. Belisle had been fairly serviceable recently. But I feel ya.
  13. Hughes to the DL, Romero to the 40 and pen in 2 weeks.
  14. Who has a clock on Trevor? He seems slow to the plate.
  15. I dunno. It's complicated. There may also be no solution. A bunch of basketball teams are pulling out all the stops to compete with Golden State, but it may just not be possible for most. There may be nothing the Twins can do to fix their rotation enough to compete for a WS without giving up their current roster. I think this year's draft helped. IF we traded Santana, we would free up money to sign the next Ervin Santana. We will also likely dump one of Gibson or Santiago or maybe both. I also think a trade for Santana probably involves taking Hughes and a portion of his salary. The return would also (hopefully) provide more trade flexibility. We COULD have drafted college pitchers. Legit question, what does Royce Lewis fetch in trade? I'm guessing with his initial success, we may well be able to get a proven MLB ready starter. Do we need Gordon, Javier, Polacios, Lewis, and Vielma was recently compared to a young Omar Vizquel? He may be underrated while others may be overrated. Would we rather have Rooker or Kiriloff? What could Rooker fetch looking like he could climb rapidly? In my mind, we're only trading Santana if we've identified a few gettable key targets in FA AND we also plan on trading for another starter, now or once the season ends.
  16. Sure. We can just go with plan b of waiting until we develop an ace and hoping that we happen to also have a Sano and Buxton and Kepler hitting their primes along with enough other arms and pen pieces to be in contention at whatever future date that ace appears... Or plan c, we trade away talent for future talent who will be able to contribute about the time we're forced to Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, or Torii Hunter our core (over pay, trade, or let walk) which is fine because there's always 2032. This window is finite. I'm not willing to waste 2 years of Sano and Buxton. Otherwise trade them both and commit to a true rebuild centered around elite pitching prospects.
  17. Dude hits 95 with a sinking 4 seamer. That is hard to find. Slider and change can both be swing and miss pitches when the command is there (sporatic). I'd rather see him scrap a pitch and move to the pen before giving up on the guy. To me, he's a 5th starter. He has ok ones, and he has rough ones. That's what 5th starters do.
  18. I was afraid of that. It's hard to be even an average starter.
  19. Did Jorge lack command or does his stuff not really play? He reminded me of radke in his manner and delivery. And the moonballs come to think of it... minus the effectiveness so far.
  20. Ehhh, I've seen it described as a better predictor of future era than current era. By why predict era at all? I haven't seen FIP be all that consistent. If it's truly independent, then it should be consistent regardless of defense. Siera has some promise. In the end there is more variability than we can even hope to calculate. All stats show an incomplete picture. ERA is one stat that actually shows a complete picture. It is the end result of all variables compiled. Outliers or shifts on the normalcy curve are the most interesting parts of statistical analysis in my opinion. Hector Santiago represents that at this point.
  21. One thing i don't get is why FIP and xFIP try to predict ERA. ERA is crap. Shouldn't it try to predict itself? If xFIP isn't stable year to year, how accurate is it really? I think that's the question.
  22. I'm always for adding talent. Of the internal candidates, do we expect any of them to be all star relievers? That's what we'd trading for. If Neshek is cheap, he may be willing to sign an extension for cheap to finish his career here. Preferably I'd like a longer look at Rosario, Buesenitz, and Hildenberger before trading for help. We're doing that a bit. So far the results are fairly uninspiring which makes me wonder about Melo, Curtis, Reed, etc. About their potential impact vs rearranging the prospect deck chairs. Seems like we're on that path. I assume we'll look to help the pen here after the break. I'd also maybe shop Kintzler and just see what he could get.
  23. I still hate Buxton's new swing. Even after yesterday.
  24. Buxton hitting... Vargas optioned... hmmm....
  25. Santiago was praised for giving up his next start and volunteering to pitch in that 30 inning thriller we lost. Short time later DL. Team-first attitude guys are important. Santiago is better than he's shown recently. He needs to get healthy, and come back effective. Maybe in a relief role.
