  1. That play by Bautista is why I would rather that Hicks starting getting on base more rather than have him sit out a couple days...
  2. Hughes throws a terrifying number of pitches up in the zone.
  3. That sometimes/very often he gets pitched around, especially late & close situations.
  4. I think he tries to get a good pitch to hit in every single at bat. I understand people want him to swing at the first pitch more often, but he just doesn't. The dude gets on base at a ridiculous rate year after year after year. He's actually being criticized because the rest of his team is not as good as him.
  5. I don't see anyone suggesting that idea.
  6. A hit is always better than a walk. A walk is always better than swinging at bad pitches and striking out or popping up or grounding out to 2nd.
  7. Tell ya what, I'll take the guy who goes 2 for 4 and gets on base 4 times in a game. You can have the guy who makes bad decisions and chases pitches. We'll see who comes out ahead...
  8. This is an absurd thing to say. You'd rather he swung at bad pitches in the hope that...he accidentally got a hit? I guarantee if he did swing at those pitches, the Mauer criticizers would be right back here talking about his high chase rate or impatience or blowing it with the game on the line.
  9. Welp, probably shoulda just won it in the bottom of the 9th.
  10. Rallying from down two to tie, and then leaving the bases loaded, is such a Twins thing to do. Love it! Yay for hope of a win where there was almost none just 10 minutes ago
  11. But he racks up so many saves!!!
  12. 1. I agree nearly every manager will do the same thing. 2. Conventional wisdom doesn't make it the correct decision. 3. I'm still fairly sure that going from 1st/2nd no out to 2nd/3rd one out makes it LESS likely that you'll score more than one run in an inning (although it makes it slightly more likely you'll score one run)
  13. Why in the world are we bunting there, down two? Unless I'm misremembering, bunting reduces your chances of scoring more than one run in an inning...
  14. 5 backward Ks sure is a lot out of 21 possible outs.
  15. What do his D metrics look like over the last several years? Not enough games played to get anything meaningful out of them?
  16. Nice tidy 1-2-3 inning from Correia.
  17. Nunez can play SS and 3B? Or just 3B? Either way, he's still at AAA so it's not an issue right now.
  18. So I get that the pitching has been awful this season, but how much "more help" could/should the Twins have gotten? Every starter and most of the relievers have been bad (or at least below average) to date...should they have gotten 5 additional starters?
  19. Did Gladden just say the Twins traded the guy they got in the Butera trade to the Yankees for Nunez?
  20. Their rationale for being more cautious? DOesn't your first sentence pretty much lay out their rationale for being more cautious?
  21. Confirmation bias at its finest (unless I misunderstand what confirmation bias means...which is totally possible)
  22. I would take daytime baseball every day if I could. Makes the workday so much better.
  23. Sometime later this season, the Twins will lose back to back games. In the first game, they'll struggle to score against a great starting pitcher. In the second game they'll score a bunch of runs, get a good start from the SP, and have the relievers blow it. Nobody will make a peep about the sky falling when this happens. Seriously, it's one game that only seems important because it constitutes 1/2 the games this season. Relax. This thread is the epitome of sports fandom on the Internet
  24. This thread reads like a contest to see who can be the most bleak, as if it's some kind of race to the bottom of projecting win totals. I have no idea if the Twins will be better or worse. I think the pitching will be notably better. I think the offense will be slightly better. I just don't see so many terrible offensive seasons from last year repeating themselves this year. Call me unrealistic, call me overoptimistic, call me inattentive to what's happened during Spring Training (which would be true because Spring Training stats and results are meaningless). I'm just really, really excited that Twins baseball is almost here again!
