  1. Any word on whether the Twins will give Meyer the Johan Treatment? Or why it's not feasible to have him come up and get spot starts/pitch 3-4 innings at a time out of the pen?
  2. 4 years at $11+ mil per for a CLOSER? I know it's not my money and I shouldn't worry about it, but what a gigantic waste of money.
  3. The proliferation of unnamed, unconfirmable sources in the past few years drives me crazy. Either have the courage and decency to put your name to something or shut your mouth. EDIT: This is to say, I really don't find anything to look into, be concerned about, or even discuss on this topic. And I'm a grumpy old man when it comes to modern journalism.
  4. Forget where I've read the discussion (I think Schoenfeld on ESPN has brought it up) but there has been a lot of discussion about how "working the count" and drawing a lot of walks isn't how you win anymore, because the Royals and others this season made a lot of contact or something. He then points out that the Red Sox won the WS last year and were like 2nd or 4th in pitches per plate appearance.
  5. The "crapshoot" argument has been around for a while because it is true. The best regular season team rarely (recently) wins the World Series. It wasn't invented to justify the Twins bombing out year after year, and it has been used to explain why the Mariners and Yankees missed WS wins in their amazing years and why Wild Card teams and the Giants keep winning.
  6. IMO, you should be evaluating the trade based on the process/expectation/whatevs. If Meyer turns out to be a permanent RP, and it's attributable to his injuries, does that still mean the trade was a bad idea or the scouts need to be fired?
  7. If the Twins hire Ozzie Guillen as their manager, I'll have to seriously reconsider my fandom.
  8. As of today, there are 12 pitchers in all of MLB who would have gotten Hughes' 210 IP bonus. Not sure why there's so much handwringing about Hughes getting pulled early and Twins not letting their starters go deeper into games--this is the way SPs are handled now.
  9. I feel like this has been the analysis on Parm for the last 3 years. I have no idea how "good" Parm is, because he hasn't done much, ever. Some of that is due to lack of playing time, but surely some has to be a sign that he's not a capable full-time ML player, no?
  10. I should have been clearer and said "these guys" means "free agent Cuban players generally," but it's absolutely possible that those three players turn into busts, although Cespedes is somewhat protected by that because he only has a year left on the contract.
  11. For a fanbase that wrings its collective hands over Mauer's contract at every turn, people here sure are willing to spend $72MM on a guy who has never played in MLB before solely because he comes from the same country as a few guys who have been successful (in extremely limited time). Abreu has been great for one season. Puig has been great for just over one season. Cespedes(?) has been greatly overrated for two season and pretty good for one. I look forward to the "I was wrong. It was good the Twins didn't sign <insert Cuban player here> posts" when these guys start turning into busts.
  12. When he made the jump from non-prospect land to the majors?
  13. This bothers me zero. But then I have very little interest in Twitter as it is. Or the Twins beyond their on-field product.
  14. If Buxton clears the concussion protocols and feels like he can play well, there's no reason to keep him off the field. i.e., if he's healthy, he should play.
  15. What value is there in an all-pull guy trying to pull pitches on the outer half of the plate? I don't see how anyone could have a problem with a guy like Arcia pulling pitches that he can reach and going the other way with pitches he can't. If he's trying to pull outside pitches, he needs to change.
  16. White Sox just throw the ball all over the place.
  17. Awful lot of work for 1 run
  18. Ghosts. The answer is always ghosts.
  19. Pino starting back-to-back games? Talk about old school...like early 1900's old school. Gibson is starting today
  20. I think it'd be a good deal for him. Isn't 1 WAR worth about 5 Mil on the FA market? All they'd need is for Suzuki to be worth 3 WAR over 2 years. I'd like to see him backup more and Pinto or whoever start more, but that seems pretty cheap.
  21. Karabell also says Milone sent to minors and "he's really not that good, Twins fans"
  22. Rumors among ESPN.com experts that Suzuki and Twins are close on long-term extension
  23. Even a 5th pitcher with a 4.5 ERA would be fine.
  24. Milone is also not a free agent until 2018. A 4th/5th starter type who's young and under control in exchange for a 4th OF? I'll take it. Kinda adds to the pitching glut though...
